Goldbridge right now talking about Bruno having a bad game and looking for hollywood passes constantly... sigh.

This was his best game this calendar year I think. Constantly pressed, passed in compact spaces and successfully beat his man multiple times.

I think it also shows lack of football knowledge from him. People who do not understand the game plan will always criticise.

The way we have been setting up recently relies on us getting the ball forward in the transition quickly, which means Bruno has the licence to find the forwards.

Now, saying that, I cannot name you one player that consistently finds the forwards, there will be balls that are underhit or misplaced, its football. However; if we want him to be safe on the ball, we wont make some of the chances we are making because the run won't be spotted.

Its incredible how terrible some of these youtuber's football IQ is.

Played well I thought, constantly busy and looking for forward passes. He doesn't need assists and goals every game if he is a persistent nuisance to an opponent.

His job was also made much easier by Leicester continually leaving him in acres of space in front of their defence. How many times did he pick the ball up in their half with nobody anywhere near him.

A good point on the space, but think you should credit Bruno with finding it.

Rashford managed to go the entire game without hardly finding any of that space

They dont want the risk but they want a lot of goals. Even peak Messi risked himself to get tackled and injured when he dribbled past players to score goals and it did not always come off.

To me it seems like Bruno is benefitting from some coaching. Although he still loses the ball / misplaces passes, he does seem like he's calming down a little bit and keeping it simpler at times. Good overall performance last night.

Yeah but what they base it on is highlights. They watch the 5 min highlights of games and think that that was them the whole game.

A classic example is City fans never questioning KDB's passing success but United fans can only talk about Brunos passing.

Another example, I have had BT sport on the background couple of times and the PSG game was on, was partially watching it, last 2 games, Mbappe missed 2 sitters but people will tell you that "Do you think Mbappe misses those?" Because they watch highlights where he brilliantly finishes off some of the chances.

He was really good, but what frustrates me, is knowing that he has the ability to produce those killer passes but he just doesn't do it at times. A player of his caliber should be able to do it day in day out with more consistency. If he can retain possesion better and get more consistent, he can be our KDB. You just can't question his work ethic though, fantastic at it.

Presumably you accept he’s a better dribbler than Eriksen though, which I believe was his point?

Neither of them can really dribble, Eriksen has a better touch and range of passing + awareness to get him out of tight situations than Bruno so I wouldn't even agree with that.

Don’t want to fight someone else’s battle, but I don’t think they actually said Bruno was better at those things?

just think it’s more than obvious Bruno is a better progressive ball carrier than Eriksen, whether that includes dribbling or driving in to space to commit defenders

Bruno has taken this new captaincy with aplomb, looks like a new player. He looks happier.

I agree. Still very annoying to watch him do something really good and then give the ball away with a bad decision or sloppy pass once he's created a great position for the team. He's still a net benefit to the team but he's got to switch on more.

He seems to have cut out the endless whinging. His performance was affected by it last year.

Good to see him playing with a smile.

His work rate cannot be faulted, and with practically no support at point, he’s grafting for two at the moment. It’s going to keep him in the team above anything else at the moment, and justifiably so because there’d be a massive defensive void through the top-end of the pitch without him there right now.

Keep him high and away from our half and take things from there. I’m also certain he’s about to see a real upswing because of Antony, so let’s see what he can do - this is his season to really show his wares.

I was surprised not to see as much of this last night, considering how poor the ref was.

Maybe EtH has had a word? will wait to see if he carries on

Was much better last night (although he was good against Liverpool as well to be fair); fewer misplaced passes which was nice to see. Here's a video of his involvement in our attacks.

Hes getting back to where he was when he signed. I really do think having fast players to run on to some of his passes helps him and the team overall.

It’s a shame that sensationalism is what viewers apparently want now rather than actual football knowledge/insight. As in, it’s really basic football knowledge to watch that game and see Bruno having arguably his best game of the season and, assuming he watches us every week, see him reigning in the volume of long balls he usually tries. That doesn’t even require him to have played the game or be a football guru, it’s just common sense.

How did people feel he did on the right hand side? I thought it seemed an odd decision when he moved there, but he actually did quite well from there. Hes not a winger by any means, but it seemed to give him some good angles on the pass. I know we have Antony now, but if Elgana is our second choice, I wouldn't mind seeing Bruno there again some time.

Has played there a few times for Portugal.

Goldbridge is a knob.

Anyone who watches him or puts any credence into anything he says is an idiot.

Its good to see Manutd fans @Rozay and @Borys praising Bruno after bashing him for the past few months... oh wait they only appear on this thread when he has bad games.

In all your superior wit and intellect, perhaps you should have considered the possibility that I wasn’t that impressed with his performance yesterday but decided to not come in and pick holes in a performance that I acknowledge to be amongst his better ones?

And there are several bad games that I decide not to comment on. But there is no obligation for me to see any particular performance as praiseworthy, similarly to how you struggle to see many worthy of criticism.

To be honest I'm surprised by the praises unless people are using his worst games as a point of reference. It was an average game for a good player, he was the best of a bad bunch among attacking players and it's mainly because he is making a better use of his defensive workrate. On the ball he was cleaner than usual but nothing special.

If you go have a look, I criticised every player last season. But its okay, we know you have a Bruno agenda.

I think the difference is that half of us are judging Bruno by brunos usual standards, whilst half of us are judging him by the standing of a top prem midfielder.

I don’t even know what the latter means, it’s so vague. How do you compare KDB to Henderson to Kante to Casemiro…they all have completely different roles.

New manager, new system, judge him game by game.

So I have an agenda now because I didn’t post anything?

I do have a Bruno agenda anyway, I don’t think he’s very good. That is my agenda of him. It’s not a hidden agenda, it’s an observation of a footballer having watched that footballer play hundreds of games. Just because I don’t think he’s very good doesn’t mean I need to have a conversation about it every game. Sometimes he plays better than others, and he’s played a lot worse than he did last night, but not great enough for me to go overboard with praise and certainly not bad enough for me to point out his flaws. So I kept my council and decided to at least not be negative, but that isn’t enough for you clearly.

I thought Eriksen was far better than Bruno against Leicester, and in general has shown the class and composure which Bruno only shows flashes of

Yes. Bernado Silva is on another level.

Indeed, this is what I consider to be a top level midfielder, and not what I saw from Bruno last night (or ever, frankly). Still, I didn’t see the need to come here after the game just to point out that he is not as good as Silva. That would not be unnecessary.

Thank you sir, indeed I thought he was much better than before. However, I still maintain Bruno has been given way too much slack, and I don't like that the team is set up to cover for him.
One day I would like us to play Bruno-free team to see how it goes, who can take over being the main man etc. Somehow I can imagine it will be far more balanced and threats will come from more players.

But kudos to him for having a decent game, much better to what I'm used to.

So… a good performance? Which is worthy of praise, no?

Not for me, I don't really praise players for average games. I also don't jump on players if they have a one poor game.

It was an objectively good performance. The fact that a player is talented enough to reach that level regularly shouldn’t be a reason not to acknowledge a good performance when you see it. Certainly not a reason to be surprised at people praising it.

For you it was, not for me. I'm surprised because I have a different opinion of his performance.

Yes. Bernado Silva is on another level.
No, he is just a completely different player.

As a playmaker, Bruno is better. As a goal scorer Bruno is better. As a talisman Bruno is better.

At ball retention, Silva is better. At dribbling, Silva is better. Within a possession system, Silva is better.

He may be a different type of player but it is pretty clear who is better and contributes more to his team. And it's not Fernandes.
