Brentan Rodgers

I think everyone on here acknowledges what a good job Brenton did last season in almost winning the title. Some of the football Liverpool played was brilliant, the best to watch in the league. That doesn't change the fact though that he says some very silly cringeworthy things, the stuff about him being his own mentor is fantastic.

I actually don't have anything against him though, he seems a bit pompous but basically alright. Certainly an improvement on Dalglish anyway.

It certainly is up there on the twat scale, maybe just below people who say "I'm a perfectionist" in job interviews when being asked to identify a weakness about themselves.

That's typical RAWK delusion. Rodgers has achieved one season in the top four with no European distractions. I've said he's done a very good job, but that's all he's done right now. I don't agree that he deserves to indefinitely be called a very good manager yet though. Only Liverpool fans would downplay winning trophies and titles to backup their manager.
Ok, just turn this into mud flinging. Fair do's.

He's just such a fecking douchebag*. I have a deep distrust of anyone who uses self-help books to find their way in life. The way he regurgitates his favourite passages in an attempt to sound profound really grips my shit. He takes himself so unbelievably seriously. It's cringeworthy.

None of this has any bearing on his ability as a manager, of course. It's a little strange that the players he manages don't sometimes wonder about the emperor's new clothes but PL footballers aren't the brightest bunch so they probably all think his pretentious wibbling is " just dead clever lah" He obviously knows his shit when it comes to getting a football team playing good football, which is all that matters really.

I admire Rodgers in a way. He got himself a job at Liverpool and realised very quickly that the way to endear himself to their support base is to fill them full of shit, something he's very very good at.

I've agreed that he's done an excellent job, and your point about judging managers solely on winning a league cup here and there. All fair points, but how about you wait a bit longer to see how he does from here? look at the best managers around such as Klopp, Van Gaal, Mourinho and Pep. I highly doubt any of them were labeled very good managers as easily as Rodgers has been by your fan-base. A good job across one season shouldn't earn you that.

You see, you're underplaying what he did here. If someone didn't know what had happened in the league you'd think they would have finished 4th/3rd, nowhere near the title. He didn't just achieve top four, he challenged for the league title until the very last day and finished 2nd. That's a much bigger achievement than just finishing within that top four.

He certainly isn't up there with the best managers yet but he's promising and has done very well taking this Liverpool side from mid-table mediocrity to playing some very good football and competing for the league. Yet to see what will happen next season though.

The first post in this thread was stunning in its accuracy, in calling him as a future top 4/5/6 manager, especially considering he bettered that last season.

Where it fell down was when it said about him talking sense in interviews. Was he always this much of a bullshit artist? I really don't remember him talking as much shit back then as he does now.

Still a good manager though, and sets teams out to play well.

Yeah, it's all about the press conferences. The exciting and goal-laden football serve as a mere footnote.

DENIED.

I was somewhat annoyed that a Liverpool fan had such a cool username, but he's actually a really good poster, one of the only scouse fans that's actually worth reading. @Bob Loblaw law bomb

Frankly, us 'Pool fans are happy with this continued under-estimation. Makes his (and our) job easier. Suarez gone - no top four finish possible, no pressure. After all, it was all about Suarez/lack of European football/change of managers/Moyes/etc. Nothing to do with Brendan.

Additionally, Rodgers' press comments, and ability to speak many languages (weirdly), is also causing him to look a twat. Not his fault the unwashed masses can't understand him but it continues to serve his image as a loony. Thus further under-estimation.

He's done a good job but he talks absolute shit a lot of the time. Not a dig at him, in fact it's admirable as I said, mire a dig at the audience that laps it up.

The reason he's popular had everything to do with the results. Not the pressers. Although it's good that he doesn't do a "Hodge" and talk with total indifference.

Speaking of douche-bags...

I've absolutely no idea why people on redcafe thinking Rodgers is a gobshite makes anyone at Liverpool's job any easier.

Nor do I have the faintest clue what "your" (Liverpool fans) job actually is (I'm aware that mentioning jobs and Liverpool fans in the same sentence is an oxymoron) and where this whole under-estimation stuff helps you out.

Basically, a typical Dumbstar post. Obtuse, pointless and confusing. Trolling without the minimal intellectual capacity required to be a troll.

Quite possibly very true, but in the "1001 reasons Liverpool had a good season other than being a good football team" (published Spring 2014 by CafTard) it appears that #269 reads as follows:

"There's no doubt that Liverpool were a surprise package last season. Teams were surprised by their attacking style and underestimated them massively. This won't be the case next year as Liverpool will be more predictable than a 'Scouser is unemployed' joke".

I don't think any professional manager worth his salt under-estimated Liverpool under Rogers last season on the basis that he has a spray tan and talks drivel. I certainly don't think they will next season, no matter how much stick he gets on here.

All over the place this.

I disagree - they might have underestimated them on the basis that they had only one top class player and a collection of others who actually, as it turned out, were pretty good. The big clubs, early on at least would have expected to be able to get decent results. That has nothing to do with the manager, who's clearly very good - its just that fact that man for man it didnt look like their sqaud was comparable - until that is a number of their players turned it on and really excelled.

Liverpool will have to maintain the performances, deal with the expectation (as well as more games) and deal with teams who will come to Anfield and "park the bus" hopeing they can take a point.

I don't buy the underestimation point either, but just pointing out many on here used it as qualification for Liverpool's good season.

He probably spoke utter shite then as well. It's just that his job wasn't high profile enough for anyone to notice.

“It is great for the public here at Sunderland to see us,” said manager Brendan Rodgers. “They must have been wondering what this team everyone is talking about are all about and now they have seen. We were wonderful.
