Sakho is overrated. There's a reason PSG let him go.

I think Gary and Carragher were spot on about Skrtel and Sakho's deep defending.

They've let in 2 goals less than us this season ffs and we've had injuries, thrashing after thrashing from top team (and West Ham) and over half a season with a non-manager who has openly said that playing with dms isn't really his thing (and has subsequently fielded wingers and attacking midfielders in a central midfield 2 to shield our defensive wizards).

Toure and Sakho are crap.

I think Toure was decent cover on a free. Sakho looks a bit shit every time I've seen him, but granted, I don't watch Liverpool much.

A centre back should be priority number 1 this summer, imo.

Full back.

Flanagan on the right, Enrique on the left isn't terrible. I'd focus on a top class centre back myself but I agree the full back positions could be better as well. I suppose you can't depend on Enrique's fitness much either.

Let's be honest, their whole defense needs sorting. Flanagan's the only decent one they've got, and even he's still got a way to go.

There were stories that Ancelotti didn't rate him and wanted rid, he fell down the pecking order, was stripped of the captaincy mid-season, and club director Leonardo labelled him 'overweight'.

Neither is good enough to be the first choice at Liverpool.

Looked to me like Skrtel got caught 2 vs 1 on the 3rd goal, so you'd have to say that's a mistake by him, but a situation caused by Gerrard or Lucas' positioning, right?

Basically Liverpool were way too stretched.

Hindsight, but once it got to 3-2, Rodgers should have chucked on Toure or Agger to stand in front of the D and seen the game out with Suarez alone upfront, instead of throwing on Victor Moses?

Sakho just turned 24, and he's certainly got more technical ability than Chris Smalling, or a lot of other decent CB's. I don't think that was a bad signing at all.

I just watched the Liverpool goals again, and Goal 1 is basically just Gerrard's fault (he doesn't mark Delaney and instead stands around doing nothing, because he's not a DM is he, he just plays deep now. Esteban Cambiasso and Claude Makelele are rolling over in their graves). Sakho is marking his man and in the correct position.

Goal 2 is the break after the corner, and it's definitely mostly Johnson's fault for getting run around too easily by Bolasie, failing to just foul him and take the yellow at the half-way line and then being too scared to get closer to him once he's in the box for fear of getting a pen (this part a bit more understandable, since Bolasie really is a fantastic dribbler). Flanagan does a poor job marking Gayle too, and is definitely partly at fault. Sakho jogs back (and Gerrard to his credit sprints back like a madman) and though it's doubtful he gets there, it doesn't look great when a man 10 years old is blowing by you.

Goal 3 is mainly Gerrard and Lucas's co-fault for marking absolutely nobody, instead of one of them dropping deep to help out Skrtl, so when the ball goes over them Skrtl ends up 2 on 1 against Murray and Gayle and instead of dropping off and forcing Murray to chest it down and hit a 20 yard volley for the goal (high degree of difficulty) a simple chest past Skrtl and Gayle is in alone. Sakho is correctly marking Tom Ince, who has gotten inside of Flanagan, who has fallen asleep. As is Glen Johnson, who should have tucked in upon seeing that Lucas and Gerrard have not dropped in and Skrtl is 2 vs 1, especially since there's no left-sided player to threaten him as Ledley is tucked in and deeper.

So, overall and very stupidly, I'd break down Liverpool's collapse like this, including Rodgers's failure to make the right sub (bring in Toure or Agger to play DM once it got to 3-1, and definitely once it got to 3-2!) and stop the bleeding:

Gerrard - 40 percent (instrumental in 2 goals by failing to do basic DM stuff when you're leading, which I do and I'm shit and play DM with the entitlement of Pirlo )
Rodgers - 30 percent (He had to know Gerrard might wander out of position. It's defined his whole career. Also, his team fell asleep on a set piece for the 2nd as he made a sub during it, and it was the wrong sub, too)
Johnson - 15 percent (Mostly for the 2nd goal - it's kind of understandable he got beat by Bolasie, but he did get beat, then failed to just haul him down for the yellow or put the modicum of pressure required to stop Bolasie, a generally horrific passer, from making the perfect pass to Gayle. Also involved in the truly calamitous 3rd goal.)
Lucas - 10 percent (seems high, but he's playing DM with Gerrard and has been for years, and yet doesn't drop in on the 3rd goal (and if you leave someone who habitually wanders away from babies to dress up like Roy of the Rovers and go on week-long benders to babysit for a week and the baby is dead when you get back, it's a bit your fault) and on the 1st, he's neither marking Delaney nor realizes he's behind him, and is instead trying to cut off Jedinak's potential pass backwards to half, which uh, would have been fine)
Flangan - 5 percent (If he stands closer to Gayle, does the 2nd goal go in? Loses points for trying to be involved in conceding the 3rd, but Palace didn't need him due to other teammates fecking up).

Glen Johnson reminds me of when United play Valencia at right back. Think you should go in for Micah Richards in the summer for the games where you actually want your right back position to be defended.

Micah Richards is quite similar to Johnson in terms of being positionally shite at full-back.

Sakho is young enough to develop into a decent CB I think. The others are just huge liabilities (except Flanagan who will probably be a good player). Do any Liverpool fans here think Llori will make it?

I think Rodgers was right to keep going. 3-0 meant a six goal difference. They had three penos turned down by Clattenberg - apparently they'd used up their quota with him already - so more goals were on the cards. I think another 2/3 goals, driving on, they bring the GD down to 3/4 goals.

Newcastle will bend over but hopefully City secure two more wins to see this out.

He is a wanker. Was reading his press conference yesterday and he said, "We will definitely score goals. We have a lot of goals in us. We are not a 1-0 team and 4 years ago Chelsea beat Wigan 8-0 on the last day so why can't we?"

What an uber idiot. These are the kinda matches that you win 1-0 at crunch times if you are competing for the title.

I haven't seen the highlights.

Once the score went 3-1, they should have shut the gates, called everyone back. Hindsight is 20/20 though.

Yeah, they were definitely right to keep going at 3-0. Part of me kind of wanted them to win 5-0 just to keep the hope alive into the final day. And of course, a big win would add that little bit of pressure to City tomorrow. Once it hit 3-1 though, it was time to shut up shop. The players were fecked, they were struggling to get up and down the pitch.

Rodgers has got to be the most tactically inept manager to ever be involved in a title challenge.

If Rodgers played the parking the bus game along with Chelsea and get 0-0, they would've been one point ahead anyways and could've afforded to be more cautious as well. I don't know how he could bottle it from there, everything was laid out for them beforehand.

It makes their recent collapse all the more sweeter, though.
