Liverpool are better off accepting a bid of £5-6m from a Serie A club and moving on, rather than holding out for £14m when the only clubs that will offer that kind of fee are relegation threatened teams that he isn't interested in.

Probably right. From what was said in the summer, Borini was holding out for a Serie A club. Either they weren't interested or wouldn't stump up the cash, could have been either.

Knowing our record we'll loan him out with an option to buy that the Italian club won't activate.

We'll do the classic loan him out and once he plays 25 games the Italian club are forced to buy him. The Italian club, likely Milan, will proceed to play him 24.5 times leaving us stuck with him.

And then another Italian team will loan him the next year. Aquilani all over again.

You know what's better than 100 chances created? 1 chance finished.

Sterling should have done better, yes, but you can't just lay that at the door of your 20yr old winger. Rodgers should have considered that before starting the match without a striker.
Yet no-one talks about the one Rooney, and two RVP chances at 2-0 which annoys me a bit

Yep. Saw a program today showing United made 16 defensive errors causing Liverpool to have 6 goal scoring opportunities. Whereas Liverpool made 21 defensive errors causing United to have 6 goal scoring chances of which we scored 1. Apparently, these stats must be wrong as Liverpool were the only ones that had chances.

So it's Rodgers' fault that Borini didn't leave before September because Rodgers gave him a few appearances after the window shut?

Christ. There's enough to criticise Rodgers for, no need to create situations were he did nothing wrong.

You don't seem to be following.

We established a few posts back Rodgers told him he isn't part of his plans and he should not stay because he will not play (and if he didn't make this clear then he should have) but Borini chose to stay for the wages or at least that's what I am getting from your posts.

I then stated Rodgers should be looking ahead to January since Sunderland still might be interested but he has already played Borini a few times so that decreases his chances of making money off him in January.

You follow now?

For a start stick to his word and not play him then, January is another month, Poyet seems to be a fan.

God knows what Borini is thinking probably "He has already given me a chance this season, i'll probably get another."

See what I said, stick to his word, as in if he didn't want to play him then he shouldn't have but it seems as though even Rodgers decided Borini can fight for his place, there was no attempt to force him out, January is another window it's called planning ahead not that he knows much about that.

I mean you said there was no mixed signals during the window so it should have been quite obvious my post was referring to after the window shut, these things go without saying.

Poyet will probably take him for £10m in Jan (if he can afford it), that's not the problem, Rodgers needs to force him out

That's fine, but it wasn't what I took issue with. I only ever disagreed with you because you said on the previous page that it was down to Rodgers that Borini didn't leave last summer.

As for how to use him now, depends on your view. Some people think he should refuse to play him until he goes while others think he should at least be on the bench while our strikers are out. I think the latter, but both are reasonable.

I don't think Rodgers should give up so easily, this is the point I'm making, he just isn't doing enough to force him out.

If he gets £10m from Sunderland then he needs it, add it to whatever backing the owners will give him, Borini likely would have stopped hanging around fighting for his place once Rodgers backed up with words that he isn't in his plans but now Borini will think he has a chance.

If you make an environment unpleasant for a player then he will soon leave, he doesn't have to be mean, just his actions need to consistently say you aren't wanted in this team.

Is it true he tried to send Henderson the other way in a proposed deal for Dempsey? Which was, apparently, his preferred choice over Sturridge?

Now just imagine if that had gone through.

Yeah. It would have been horrible. Last season would have never happened and we'd be without two of our four best players.

Those stats are for the whole season, not only this game. 21 defensive errors leading to shots in one game, you won't even experience that in a Sunday league game never mind the Premier League.

His squad wasn't so bad imo, if he only tweak his tactics to their strength and attributes.

Emre Can, Joe Allen, Lucas, Sterling, Sturidge, Lallana, Sakho, Lovren, Mignolet, even Ballotelli is more than good enough to do the job, probably not winning the league or EPL, but with a proper man management they could get somewhere. There are many teams above Liverpool that hasn't had the luxury of such player.

That's amazing, from our point of view. So much roation at the back due to injuries, so much stick in the press about this being our poorest defence for 50 years etc, yet the stats tell a different story altogether.

Stats actually confirm what we already know. We've made a lot of mistakes but haven't been punished for them by a combination of De gea and luck.

This. We're third in the league of mistakes leading to goal attempts, but bottom in the league of those mistakes leading to goals.
It definately our worse defensive performance thus far that I can remember, but of course the injuries haven't helped.

Defence is shite. DDG is saving our arses basically. That's not a good stat to be honest.

Surely we've had more than 'error leading to goals' this season? Not sure about that stat.

Big match tonight for him. Will he continue the 3-5-2 experiment or was that just a signature 'masterstroke'?

Can he/will he drop Gerrard? If not, where will he play?

AVB has confirmed Liverpool have been in talks with him but he's not keen on a return to the EPL - read; they're not offering him a good enough package.

Meanwhile Benitez confirms two clubs have spoken to him in the last fortnight and he decided to go the cryptic route of saying "they say in Spain, a man is the only Animal that stumbles twice on the same stone".

I think Brendan is already dead and buried.

That article about the transfer committee was so obviously from him, written by his best mate in the press, and he must have known that everyone at anfield would realise that. That tells me he already knows hes gone, now hes just trying to remove himself from the responsibility. Which is par for the course with thee sort of numpties that spout thee management speak nonsense he does.
Half of those books are about abdicating responsibility when it goes tits up.

What article was this?

Just had a punt on Liverpool to win at evens... don't mind wasting the money if they lose, don't mind compensation if they win. A draw would be a fecker though.

Just should have gone for the outright winner of the tie market.

To Qualify for Next Round

Bournemouth 7/4 Liverpool 2/5
