They've a CL game Tuesday. No Sturridge so rested Sterling. Makes sense really.

In fairness he spent £25mil on Lallana as back up to Sterling. Not a great time to throw Lallana in at the deep end in hindsight.

Fergie used to rest players for CL games like the one you have. Aston villa was the bigger game IMO

Resting Sterling when Sturridge is out was strange. That and we're playing Ludogorets. If you're going to rest for one of the two games, it's Ludogorets. I think Rodgers might have been making a point to the media about the expectations being thrown on Sterling.

Lallana hasn't had a preseason and is coming back from an injury. Plus I don't think Lallana was brought in as a back up to Sterling at all.

The tougher one too. Playing three attackers whom were all making their Anfield debuts was a bad decision all day long. We looked completely lost going forward.

I guess but lots of people from that province don't consider themselves British.
Well if you want to put this shit to bed right now..I'm from the north and I'm Irish, I hold an Irish passport. You can declare either nationality under the Good Friday terms.

Poor post match interview from Brendan. Firstly, even though Villa played well Liverpool should still be beating teams like that, especially at home. Liverpool looked completely inept at times. Secondly, he just said he had enough quality and depth in the squad when referring to Sterling being rested, yet said Liverpool are competing with a budget that is a 3rd of other teams in the league. :wenger: I'm sure they spent £100m+ this summer, and have spent pretty steadily for years. Although I admit £115m from the sale of Suarez and Torres helped. Sorry £80M I forgot to -£35M for Andy Carroll who makes even Fellaini look like a bargain.

Did he say that? God, he's bangs that drum after every loss. Such a boring guy.

They're too reliant on Sterling. Not good considering how young he is. He'll need to be rested now and again.

He feels the lack of transfer funding prevented them beating Aston Villa supposedly.

I watched the first 50 minutes of Liverpool's game today and I was severely underwhelmed by some of Liverpool's players, particularly Cissokho and Aspas. It also got me thinking: how many of Rodgers' own signings can be classified as unqualified successes?

HIT
  • Coutinho
  • Sturridge
PROBABLY SHIT
  • Toure
  • Mignolet
  • Sakho
  • Allen
SHIT
  • Aspas
  • Luis Alberto
  • Cissokho*
  • Moses*
  • Yesil
  • Assaidi
  • Sahin*
  • Borini
* loan signings

That's very, very unconvincing if you're to be honest about it. To give Rodgers credit, he has gotten the best out of Suarez and Henderson (a player written off by many, and whom was apparently offered to Fulham in part-exchange for Clint Dempsey) but his record in the transfer market leaves a lot to be desired.

N.B. Mignolet and Sakho could well prove to be successes, but they've looked shaky at times this season and the jury is still out on them.

Old bump, but after watching Liverpool splutter through another 90 minutes, I couldn't help feel that Rodgers' transfer record is nothing better than woeful. Lallana well overpriced (although I rate him as a player), Lambert is piss, Lovren is no more a £20m centre-back than Shep the Dog, Manquillo and Moreno look suspect, whilst Markovic hasn't set the world alight at all in any of his appearances (Balotelli is a moron so let's not even waste time mentioning him).

As for last year's signings, Coutinho is going to be filed under "Probably Shit" if this shit spell of his continues any longer. Combine that with the utter, utter wank Rodgers squandered the Suarez money on, that leaves Sturridge as being his only one true excellent signing. Even the "Probably Shit" ones last season (Mignolet, Sakho et al) have proven beyond all reasonable doubt that they are in actual fact unequivocally shit.

The man is a myth.

What do Liverpool want? A full on sugar Daddy? FSG have already made losses of over £100mil since they took over.

Anyway the big mistake they continue to make since 1990 is not build a new stadium/get Anfield up to 60k min. All the big clubs around Europe have big stadiums. Liverpool are stuck with a 45k Stadium.

Yeah he did say that. Again. But they spent over £100M, £45M on the pair of Markovic and Lallana. Sold a truly world class player and replaced him with a load of squad members, not one truly world class player came in. If you compare Tottenhams spending a similar amount last summer to Liverpool this transfer window who do you think spent more wisely and got the better players? I'd have to say Tottenham.

Dunno, Tottenham's spending was pretty shite.

Last season he played incredible football. Suarez helped immensely but even Jurgen Klopp had a better team than Liverpool and I would say Liverpool's performances when they went on that mad winning run were equally as good.

You make good points regarding his transfer dealings but I would not say he is a myth, if he can get these players performing like last season then once more they will be a dangerous team.

Spends over £100 million, moans about lack of funds :lol:

He's caught Rafaitis

They would probably need a couple more consecutive seasons in the top 4 to be able to sustain the financial strain of a new stadium. Rodgers can say goodbye to big transfer budgets if they were to commit to a new stadium. FFS, he's already complaining about lack of funding  You really have to admire Wenger's work at Arsenal during the construction of their own stadium.

This is harsh. Even the most biased United supporter has to admit that Liverpool played some incredible football last year (and last week at WHL). It appears as though Suarez was the catalyst last season though.

..or just being a natural fit for Liverpool. Has learnt well from FSW about how to get on right side of dippers.

Never seen either version of the office. I presume it mocks Brendan's use of management speak? I remember him once saying other teams play with 10 men and a goalie but his sides played with 11 men.

Should watch it when you have time. Rodgers once said that he can live without air, but he can't live without hope, the amphibian monster.

This is an important point.

What's your opinion on the reason for this?

Said Liverpool are competing with a budget a 3rd the size of some other teams in the league.
They have spent over £130mil on new players this season.
feck me, Rodgers has already fallen into the 'net spend' myth that the fans always spout. Yes you may of only spent £60mil net spend but you have still brought in £130mil worth of new players.
