Boehly is going to ruin Chelsea (hopefully)

This is what I’m saying. He could have literally came in put his feet up and signed 1 player and they would have been in a better position.

Boehly is running Chelsea like a major league baseball team, where stockpiling as many talented young players as possible is the best way to build a top team.

Will it work for football? I guess we'll have to see.

Some of you lot make it sound as though a billion quid is a huge outlay.
Da feck?
You do realise one billion is the equivalent to 10 players at £100m each in the space of 12 months. Yeah that’s a huge outlay mate.

I don’t think we have to see… all good players need the right conditions!! Plus you can’t neglect the first team trying to create the greatest u21s of all time.

The feck are half these players? They sound like FM regens.

Laughable.

Put the list of the players they've let go up in the same time and I bet you can cobble together a better squad.

If you spend half a billion on 16 years olds, it's not 'ridiculous' to expect they wouldn't be instant title challengers. Again, context of the spend is everything. The target was never to create instant title challengers and the signings reflect that. The fact that you, and the like, find that ridiculous is inconsequential.

Yeah, you exhibited such patience last year when sacking Potter. Give it a rest, pal.

Just having fun, mate. A billion is indeed a lot of quid, even for me.

It's a sign of the times that this statement could be read as unironic and not sound like the most outlandish drivel you read on the caf in an average week.

I typically post from my iPhone, which doesn’t allow the white text option.

Why the rush with this guy? he's come in like a wrecking ball and spent money for what seems like just for the sake of spending it, it's almost like this £1.5 billion pledge has had to be spent within a certain time frame, but I can't make any sense of why that would be.

They've got rid of so many experienced players like Jorginho, Kante, Azpillcueta, Kovacic, etc, that it maybe shouldn't be a surprise how much they've struggled, but it still is.

I mean if Boehly had just come in and done virtually nothing, ie keep Tuchel and most of the players he inherited, then they would surely be in a far better place right now.

He’s American. They move fast and break things.

The confidence Chelsea fans gained from a win against the worst team in the PL since Derby was Astounding. Comparing themselves to City, confidently predicting top 2-4 finishes, saying their Midfield is the best in the PL, etc. When in reality they are not playing significantly different to last season and will take a long time to gel, even then most of their current players aren't experienced winners and will struggle every time the going gets tough, because as we've seen countless times, relying on a full team of young players has never turned out well, except for united that one time.

For all the talk about United winning things "with kids" as Hansen put it, that United team had experienced players. Bruce, Pallister, Ince, Schmeichel, Cantona. Chelsea seems to be leaning on a big group of young players far more in the belief that some will eventually figure it out themselves.

I've nothing against Boehly personally but the idea of any club owner failing badly is amusing to me so I'm hoping to see him end up billions of pounds worse off.

I actually think Mudryk is a fascinating case study now.

He has just under 8 years left on his deal.

He's looked very unconvincing so far and offered nothing once Forest sat back. When Nkunku and Lavia get fit that's even less of a chance of starting aswell.

If this level remains what do Chelsea do, just loan him out endlessly so he's the new Lucas Piazon or attempt to sell but then I have no idea what fee would even get them to break even on FFP?

Of course the cheat code is just nicely asking a Saudi club to pay way over the odds but then that didn't happen with Lukaku so even they have their limits going for players.

I assume the Chelsea model has some sort of contingency plan for a player or two on 7-8 year deal who dosen't live up to expectations but big failure if that extends to 4-5 players.

Aye, they'll never win anything with kids.
Its such a silly point to be honest. Giggs had a couple of seasons under his belt at that point, so wasn't really a kid. They were in a team with cantona, bruce, pallister, keane, irwin and schmeichel. Even then Sharpe and McClair played pretty regularly so butt and beckham were bedded in slowly and Cole was an experienced player at that point too.
We basically added a young right back to our team and had a couple of young midfielders playing as squad players. Its a million miles away from this chelsea team or the thousand other times its brought up when teams have a dozen novices around their first team.

Apart from Enzo, Caicedo and Fofana I don't think any of the others who've received 7y+ deals are on over £100K a week salaries which might help a lot should it come down to getting rid of some of them. Of course even around £100K/wk is still a lot of money for a player who's not performing at all and must take a step down to a smaller club but there are still dozens of clubs who can pay that kind of salaries if they want and we only need to find one who are willing to take a gamble on seeing if the player can still reach their previous potential in a new club environment.

Yeah, I doubt a player or two being stuck on a long term deal and the club facing difficulty in getting them out is something they haven't thought about when making up this contract strategy. If it were indeed just 1-2 players they might just as well be considered the new Bakayoko/Rahman/Drinkwater etc. who spent their whole contract out on loan to get even some of their costs off the books and were then unceremoniously released as soon as their contracts ran out.

But if it's more than just a couple players who aren't performing for us and also aren't attracting any interest elsewhere then it might be a problem.

Of course the cheat code is just nicely asking a Saudi club to pay way over the odds but then that didn't happen with Lukaku so even they have their limits going for players.

Saudis would have been more than happy to take Lukaku of our hands all summer but it was the player himself who didn't want to go there. Saudi Arabia may be a totalitarian regime but even they can't force a football player to join them if they don't want to come.

I know you guys wait with anticipation every week, so I'll go early this once:

Eat Shit, Todd!!!!

Where's that Chelsea fan that seemed to be in love with Todd? Bluelion or something?

Wonder what he thinks of their approach.

They'll write books on how he managed to spend a billion in a year to make a team worse. I'm serious by the way, it'll be a case study in Harvard someday.

If they'd just stuck with what they had, Tuchel included, and brought Lukaku back then they'd be in far better place right now, and much richer.

But they did have a bespoke sale, where only certain bids were allowed, with the remit that they absolutely must have £1.5 billion spent on them because they are such a special case of a club, and can't possibly be allowed to fend for themselves, so at least Boehly has been good to his word.

The cheapskate needs to open his wallet in January. Can’t expect the club to go anywhere with minimal investment on players.

I’m convinced this whole take over, Boehly, everything, is just one elaborate wind up now.

Obviously Abramovich would have sacked him by now

Does it seem a bit weird that there isn’t more speculation about it? With the players they’ve bought their league position is crazy
