Boehly is going to ruin Chelsea (hopefully)

It’s obvious that players we or other top 4 clubs try to sign aren’t going to choose Watford, QPR and Crystal Palace just because they are near or in London. You don’t have to be so pedantic.
Any examples of players that have chosen London over a top Northern club just to live in London?
How many players have United signed alone from the capitol over the last few seasons?

Owner of a haulage firm is not going to shout at drivers. He is going to shout at the supervisor who in turn goes on to shout at the drivers. That’s how it works in all walks of life. Boehly had no right to call the performance embarrassing as he knows nothing about playing football. He should have vented at Lampard who could have passed on the review in a meaningful way the players can understand.
How can the owner of the football club have 'no right' to criticise employees? He's the fella that went into his pocket to the tune of a few billion quid to purchase the club and just invested hundreds of millions to try and improve it. He has every right. If he fecks it up in the process that's also going to be on him, his investment, his reputation but that says nothing about his rights.

As for him not knowing enough about football to criticise, that's nonsense. It's a game of football not orbital mechanics. Boehly has not taken over NASA. Even if he knew feck all to begin with, I don't think it would be difficult to identify that the performance against Brighton was appalling. You don't even need to know about tactical intricacies to do that, it's a general observation that can be derived comparatively, i.e. Chelsea were absolutely rubbish compared to Brighton. I think somebody watching their first ever game could see that.

Kepa is 3rd in the league this year in PSxG +/-. He's been one of the best keepers in the league pretty unequivocally and was by far our best player against Brighton (obviously that being the absolute lowest of bars).

Being Chelsea’s best player this season is like being the winner of Best Looking Dwarf competition.

A CEO has every right to throw his weight around wherever he pleases, but if you're not respected by the audience then you can end up looking like a tit and will probably make the situation worse. What you will certainly do is undermine the manager.

I have no insight into the inner workings of Chelsea but I cant imagine many of those players have any respect for Todd Boehly. Why would they?

Who knew replacing the best footballer owner on the planet would be hard. :annoyed:

I guarantee you something. It’s not going to get better.. This could take a good 5 years to fix.

I wonder if this was always coming but Chelsea managed to hide the cracks.

They finished 6th in 2011/12 but won the champions league on pure vibes and we're able to purchase Hazard on the back of that.

They were midtable in 2015/16 but somehow got the best midfielder in the league to sign and we're able to take advantage of no continental football. Plus it was conveniantly just before Pep built his City side and Klopp built his Liverpool team.

They then new manager bounced their way to the champions league in 2021 but never looked like the best team in Europe at any point.

They've been relatively fortunate to not hit a big slump.

You're missing the point though. It's not about whether he is allowed to vent at the players (technically, of course he is) or whether he understands football well enough to give useful criticism (debatable but whatever) it's about whether what he did is good or bad for the team. Because it seems fairly obvious to me that a blow hard yank coming into the player's dressing room telling them they're an embarrassment and singling out one player in particular to criticise is only going to make the divisions and upset within the squad - and hence performances - worse, rather than better. Which will have been compounded by Lampard's pathetic response when asked about it, which will have evaporated any last hint of respect his team might have had for him beforehand.

Erm, just going to assume you meant to write "tallest" and not something that's kinda fecked up?

But I agree with your sentiment. That said, Enzo has comfortably been our best player this year.

Thiago Silva with a direct shot at the owners.

But surely at this point we have to recognise that what you have there is some kind of caricature of a persona entering a dressing room, mostly concocted by the press with very limited detail around it.

The press already want to run with this "blow hard yank" narrative, they have done since day 1. I'm not saying Boehly has done a lot to disspell these notions because ultimately many of the outcomes from his decisions are currently poor, but my point is we have no idea exactly how he was in dressing room, what he said or how he delivered it. We just have some snippets removed from any context.

Although its hilarious this belief that they are fkd for years is wishful thinking. Look at what a laughing stock we were last year. All they need is a good manager and a couple of clever signings i.e a striker. Villa are another example of how a manager can change everything. I think they will be fighting for top 4 next season.
Chelsea biggest problem is a manager.

Same as was United.

Good manager has a laid down plan. Stick to that plan, eventually it will come out well.

Chelsea now are at, Giggs (Lampard) moment after Moyes (Potter) was sacked.

They just need a manager to take control of the club, arrest the declining results, ship out players, have a starting 11, continue from there.

The bolded part is the problem. The owner probably won’t give the control the managers need and want.

Exactly. They had Tuchel, one of the best managers in the world. Sacked him two days after reuniting him with Aubameyang

Tuchel > Potter > Lampard within 6 months is truly hilarious, plus the ridiculous transfers they made pose a substantial risk to the club long term. Crazy to see.

If Chelsea are looking to buy players again in the summer they’ll probably need to sell about 16 players to make space for them!

I’d say it’s close to 10, but yeah you’re right. Two of them are simple enough. Send Zakaria and Felix back to their clubs.

Could I respectfully suggest a title change for this thread? Maybe the OP would consider alternatives for the fifth word. While ‘ruin’ has its own beguiling charm, I would ask that you consider such expressions as:
Decimate
Annihilate
F***~Up
Raze
…but I’m sure other of the gifted posters on the Caf can think of better ones.

As a Utd fan I’m glad we got to see Felix in the prem. His inconsistent brilliance has continued here as well. Great moments with little end product. It’s probably saved a club millions if they thought of making a move for him. I actually think he’d be well suited to Serie A.

I thought something along these lines would happen too.

Not this bad this quickly but I knew they'd be in trouble once Abramovich was forced out.

As long as you ignored the fact he was dodgy as feck, he was ideal as an owner. Endless money to pump into the club and unlike the Glazers for example he actually wanted to win. He wasn't content for them to just scrape top 4 every year he actually wanted Chelsea to win trophies, he also seemed to have a good set up at the club so that regularly sacking managers didn't seem to really matter.

They've now got a kind of Ed Woodward dope in charge.

Maybe they will start working from home. Companies have hot desks, Chelsea can have hot pitch

Still not at the magic 40 point mark. Getting dragged into that relegation fight. Big games against teams around them in a few weeks, Bournemouth away and Forest at home.

I just don't understand how this isn't the biggest story of the season. Correct me if I"m wrong, but Chelsea have spent more than any other football club in history over a 2 year span, and are now embroiled in a relegation fight. It's absolutely mental.

To be fair, if I remember correctly their spending impressed no one. I don't remember many people thinking that they even remotely improved which takes some doing.

I don't think anyone had ever spent more than £300m in a season before and then Chelsea this year spent over £600m.

I agree, I don't think it's getting as much attention as it should. It's a staggering failure of a season.

Yup. Monumentally shit.

Imagine if they got relegated. The stuff football dreams are made of.

If not for Tuchel's 10 points at the start of this season, they would be in 17/18th place with only 29 points. Legitimate relegation club. Deserved for all smug prick they think they are with those clueless yankees at the helm.
