Boehly is going to ruin Chelsea (hopefully)

I think it’s a tad more complicated than this. At least regarding his tenure at Dortmund. The way he handled the attack on their bus is problematic in my opinion and goes beyond what you mentioned. From what I’ve heard from a few Dortmund fans I respect, what he said to the press and what he did internally were very different stories. And the way he seems to have treated their players after that attack was not ok in my opinion.
Other than that, I’m with you. I have an incredibly high opinion of his tactical work and the way he improves his players. I’m happy we got him. I also believe he won’t last very long.

It's true that his handling of the bus attack was poor. And yeah, he probably won't last at Bayern, he is going to publically target one of the execs at some point.

Who sacked their world class manager to replace him with the mid table manager in charge now?

I agree, though Tuchel was having some big problems when he was sacked. It's hard to imagine us doing much worse than transpired after the change. If the old Tuchel is back or not we'll see at Bayern...

It's the awful transfers bar Enzo that are the real concern.

Would you care to elaborate, I'd be interested to learn more about this. My impression is that he was left to hang dry by Watzke and co.

From what I’ve heard, he pressed the team to play and actually went as far as calling the team „Weicheier“ because of their refusal or hesitance to play. And whenever he gave an interview, he made sure to come across as very patient and understanding.

He didn't look world class near the end of his tenure at Chelsea that's for sure

What an odd comment. He was fired in 07 September, that's hardly the business end of the season is it? It's not like he was shooting for peak performance in August and Sept.

Oh, right i was referring to the season before he was sacked. Where he finished nearly 20 points behind City/Liverpool. He obviously wasn't shooting for peak performance at any point in that season...

You've read wrong - easy to buy cheap PR after the fact. Tuchel had to endure all the chaos following Roman and sanctions, while being in a divorce process and still remained loyal. He utterly improved the squad, won a CL and an FA Cup, and got Chelsea to every final he was eligible for while in charge (except last year's CL). He was a brilliant tactician and will probably show it again with Bayern for everyone who's in doubt.

Potter hasn't won a thing in his life.
How do you know it's wrong? You're surmising just as much as I am. I just do not buy that he got sacked for no reason at all. That has no logic attached to it. I don't think Boehly walked in one day and decided out with Tuchel in with Potter for no apparent reason. At the very least there must have been a significant disagreement there. I'd say it's easier to jump in on the "pile in on an American owner because he's clueless" bandwagon than actually reason through it and consider that Tuchel may have warranted his sacking. It is at least a possibility.

Potter was a poor choice but at the time I don't think it's just Boehly that thought he was good, plenty on here were backing him as a top future manager and he'd more or less done everything right up to a level. They gave a young English manager a go and it's not working. I think the main mistake is sticking with it. There's nothing wrong with taking a chance.

So basically he cocked up on the manager and a large chunk of £600m on players. The Clear Fake project is going to plan.

What will the total cost of appointing and sacking Potter be? Plus all his staff and the specific recruitment guys they got in with him from Brighton?

Added to the cost of sacking Tuchel?

Feel sorry for Chelsea fans as the clubs become a joke

They’ve taken Arsenal’s place as Banter FC.

Potter was on £12m per year, 5 year deal.

He’s going to get over £50m and it cost £20 to get him initially. That’s £70m.

Let it sink in
Add that on top of the £600m spent on transfers and the 8 and 9 year contracts those players have got. It’s making Glazers look elite.

Surely a club as well versed in sacking managers aren't daft enough not to agree compensation deals within the contract?
Surely they don't pay the full wage for the full term?

They used to be well versed.. this isn’t the same club.

They will be facing a monster payout as he’s been at the club over 6 months. It may not end up being the full £50m however I’d wager it will be bigger than the £25 Conte got.

When you factor in the £21m the paid to get him, the money it cost to poach all the staff who will now leave, and even the head of recruitment, this is going to be the most expensive fiascos in history I imagine.

That’s not even mentioning Tuchel’s payout in the same season (and the cost of the new, new manager who will already be demanding more than the 12m x 5 year deal they handed Potter…

Absolute clown. Wouldn't be surprised if he gets the club relegated within 10 years

BBC is reporting he won't be getting full term pay. Probably had a clause inserted somewhere. Even with 2 years of pay, that's still 21m to buy him + 24m in wages. Add the money he's spunked on players tied to 8 year contracts who the next manager won't need.

If they don't get the next manager right then they're in trouble. We had it with Moyes and then LVG, if you backup a poor appointment with a poor appointment you're going to be in massive trouble for years.

So, does Boehly give up on his principles of appointing long term managers like Potter in favor of short term ones like Conte, Tuchel? If so, why didn't he stick with Tuchel for a season in the first place before going on an unproven experimentation?

Honestly, I don't see Boehly appointing a manager who has a bigger profile than him (read Nagelsmann, Enrique, Simonne) and who can call him out for his mistakes. I'd bet on another whacky appointment in the lines of Thomas Frank or Brendan Rodgers.

The 2025 Amazon documentary titled "Team full of Bogardes" will be an interesting watch.

Imagine losing a winner like Tuchel and appointing Potter it felt mad at the time but looking at it now it’s mind boggling.

Tuchel could go on and pick up a double with Bayern this season whilst Potter could end up in the Championship if he takes the Leicester job

No? Just hire a good manager for the long term. It doesn't have to be Potter or Conte, there's a middle ground. Chelsea are a top 4 club in the PL, most elite managers would want to stay there long term and win things, it was Roman who had other ideas in the past. They can appoint someone good and back them.

If they go down the route of Nagelsmann, Pochettino, Frank or Rodgers I think they're in trouble. None of those have the experience of how to fix this mess they find themselves in.

I'd be worried if they appointed Enrique or Mancini.

As long as Pep manages City, its always going to be a long struggle against Morgoth for any incoming manager. Doubt Enrique/Zidane/Mancini will let their reputation tarnish by taking over a club in crisis mode. It'll have to be an up and coming manager who looks up to the job.

I still remember some of the Athletics fluff shill pieces praising Boehly to the heavens and saying how he was going to modernize the club and bring analytics and moneyball at every stage of the process. I didn't believe it then and now it's plain to see that this is just another billionaire ego project burning money with no object. At least Abramovich had some solid notions of what he was doing and of the sport he was getting into. Boehly should have stuck to baseball on his side of the pond

Yep. Oddly some are falling for them again now he’s been sacked.

They now have almost meaningless 10 PL games and they are paying 10m (loan fee + salary) for those games for Felix.

Haha yeah. One of those writers was clearly on Boehly's pay roll. The piece I'm thinking of was actually pretty much a 4,000 word advert for Boehly's work over the summer.

I can understand an Arsenal fan forgetting about the Champions League, it's been a while.

I understand a team not doing well, that is a different level of banter but what is happening at Chelsea cannot be described as anything other than a Circus. I still cannot believe they fired Tuchel especially after how he stood up for the club at the end of last season. I am sorry but there are no comebacks on this one.

Did you forget the small matter of sanctions/owenrship limbo and how much turmoil that caused at the club? You'd like to think something like that shouldn't affect players, but it does.

Still made it to both cup finals, pushing LFC to penalties on both occasions, and narrowly lost to Madrid in the quarters of the CL. All things considered, not that bad of a season.

I mean, let's consider the context here. Despite the unprecedented sanctions, record-breaking number of games with a thin squad, and tumult in his personal life over the last two months of the year he managed us to 1.8 points per game in the league - if he had just managed to do that this year that puts us on 50 points, tied with you and Newcastle.

Out of curiosity what happened in his personal life?
