Bluemoon goes into Meltdown

You go out down the shops, someone robs you and kicks you in the teeth. Two streets over, 2 people were shot dead. You're more concerned about what happened to you, even though you're going to say you're not. Why's that? Because it directly affects you.

What about if you get robbed and kicked in the teeth, while two streets away city are beating us as OT to win the title?

I think it was rather disgusting that you celebrated Berbatov's goal the other day, countless people died before and after that goal and you sat there MG, cheering on a football team, oblivious to the plight of man.

Good Lord, don't merge this with the Rio on Twitter thread!!!!

'Human nature' is an excuse used for selfish people imo. We're all capable of feeling for others and putting other people first, just selfish people don't and then try to excuse it by saying it's human nature. It's not.

Do you donate all your disposable income to starving people or disaster funds? They need it more than you do. If you don't, which based on the fact you're on here, and you presumably often watch United, then that is pretty selfish. The reason you don't do it, the reason we hardly anyone does it, is that by our nature we are selfish beings.

But both of them sceneries would affect me directly. City winning would obviously have the longer backlash, so that'd be my main concern.

Plus that'd never happen anyway.

What if I offered you a ticket to the Champions League Final (assuming United got there) or a donation for the equivalent amount to the Japanese Disaster Fund.

Which would you prefer?

I'd take the donation to the Disaster Fund in a second without any hesitation, and I honestly truly mean that.

If I didn't, everytime I thought back to that game I was present at all I'd see are the Japanese people dying on the news, it'd taint my enjoyment of the memory. I'd also feel guilty going to the game.

I can always watch it on TV.

Depends how mad you get.

Does your anger equate to 20,000 killed in a horrible explosion, or losing your ticket to United vs Barcelona in the Cl final?

Because there's only certain hardcore levels I'll go to to prove something stupid to random internet folk ;)

:lol::lol:

Next time you buy some new clothes which you didn't need, a new CD or DVD, a packet of crisps which you just felt like - think that you could have donated that money to charity. When you next get your pay check, think, you could donate some of that to charity.

I'm not suggesting we should be upset all the time because of tragedies around the world. I've already explained this.

All I'm saying is what we should feel more upset about.

I explained what I meant and my position many times relating specifically to posts people made.

I know that, my thing is you keep making random points about what this says about humanity, but decide to ignore the countless posts that have explained, very clearly, what they are talking about, which you chose to ignore.

But you also seem to think that an emotional reaction somehow dictates how you feel on the subject. What difference does it make if my reaction to Japan was horror, or mild shock, or extreme concern, if at the end I still recognize the event for what it was, a terrible tragedy.

You've got serious issues, mate. Seriously. What is the point of saving lives just so that they can spend them feeling shit about living?

I don't agree with that.

And I don't have much disposable income at all - if any! - so your question to me is void at the moment.

I have done a lot for charity in the past though, and it's one of my main ambitions to be heavily involved with in the future, it always has been since I was a kid. I'm not just throwing these statements out, it's something I've always wanted to get involved with, and I do often feel a continued sense of guilt over the wealth thrown about in unimportant pastimes - one of which is football, even though I enjoy the game. I guess that's why I've taken to this debate so heavily.

No it isnt.
Yes, it is. (That's cost you a fiver already; pay via PayPal)

To try and be a bit serious again, I'm certainly not arguing that the human tendency of caring strongly for one's immediate surroundings (family, friends, team) is a free-card for ignoring the large issues. Absolutely not. Like Redlambs said before we descended into spasicity again -- these are different scales of emotions, and they can't be compared.
I'd argue they shouldn't be compared.

Any decent human being cares deeply about all the atrocities perpetrated every day, and the horrible random unfairness of natural disasters.

What we can not and should not do is demand of ourselves to have one single scale of emotions, and feel ashamed of e.g. feeling any joy when United wins, or when our child gives us a drawing, or hate ourselves for feeling a visceral disgust at seeing a puppy kicked or -- just imagine this -- City winning the FA Cup semi.

Not you as well!!

Stop being serious people at least in this thread anyway.
Can the latter discussion be made into a separate thread in its own right and let the Bluemoon meltdown thread revive.

Shhhhhh, stop being sensible will you? This thread just got mildly amusing! (but not justifiable of the amount of minutes of my life I've lost)

Yes it is and I don't think people are arguing that.

What they are asking is which impacts you more personally; an earthquake in Japan or Liverpool beating Utd 3-1 (Kuyt hattrick)?

Whether your football team wins or loses does not affect anyone personally in the slightest. If they say any different then I think they are idiots that need a little bit of perspective in their lives. As I have a decent level of perspective in my life I tend to get over football games probably within about 30 seconds as it is only a game nowadays played in the majority by a bunch of twats.

What happened in Japan, an earthquake followed by a tsunami with a body count of 10,000 and rising, 300,00 people killed in Haiti, the Baby P story, things like that will stay with me forever.

Calm down will you!

Now is your anger like 40,000 scousers knicking one of your hubcaps, or 20,000 city fans laughing at your haircut?

Absolutely perfectly explained, especially the bit in bold.

When something you care about goes tits up, that affects you personally. Because you have prior emotional involvement.

Same as if you're a massive fan of a band which you love, they break up, you're going to be upset because something you loved has broken essentially.

So basically your whole argument is about Oasis splitting?

Sorry to break this to you, traitor, but they support City!

Why the hell do you feel guilty about this? You've mentioned this a couple of times now and I still don't get it.

The slight problem with what you're saying here is "This is how I feel about this and everyone else should feel the same". If this is your attitude then I think you'll become very disillusioned as a charity worker. You simply cannot tell people how to feel!

Here's a little prayer for you which you might have heard before:-

"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference."

Hmm. A bit patronising that post.

We have the means to change a lot more than we do.

I'm not saying everyone should feel the same as me, I'm saying it's sad if people feel worse over United scores than they do over thousands dying, which it is. They're entitled to that sheltered, selfish view but I can still it out for being sheltered, because it is.

:wenger: -- Sorry!

Had a little look over at Bluemoon, and it's indeed full of pure, unadulterated hilarity. They're immensely excited about the semi, they even mention the mythical foam hands. I love the Rag Foam Hands (c). Now they're even accusing us of using Facebook. Is there no line they won't cross? --

"Just had a look on Redcafe or whatever it's called. feck me. I hate the dirty cnuts. Despise them. I'm sick of it.
It'd give me immense pleasure to see us humiliate them at Wembley and see ginger twat Scholes on his knees crying, fans on the TV in tears throwing their foam hands and plastic hats away...
[...]
Just think of all the plastic shit heap excuses for supporters that you know who know feck all about football, have no affinity to their club, update their facebook status' mid-game..."

"It's gonna be immense and you just know the OOT Rags will be getting their camera phones out :D"

It's Classic Bluemoon of the finest vintage. And they're going to 'do' The Poznan! Imagine!

We should take this up in another thread sometime. This one has been hijacked to hell already.

Will City hang on to fourth?

:lol::lol: they really are a mental bunch of bitters over at Bluemoon aren't they....
