Bluemoon goes into Meltdown

Not sure how mocking the head garb of a group of slavers and civil rights abusers is worse than mocking the football strip of some millionaire footballers?

I don't think he was being racist at all, humour has it's fine lines I suppose.

Because it seemed he was referencing the derogatory term often used to insult the entire Arab population, not just "slavers and civil rights abusers".

I suppose he could've used the same line when talking about Arsenal, considering the part of the world your main sponsor is from and the fact that the person that runs Emirates is related to City's owner - would you have been so accepting of it then?

For the record, I personally wasn't particularly offended - i just noticed he was banned shortly afterwards and was asking whether it was worth saying it in the first place.

Feck sake this thread has gone boring again!

Looks like I'll have to see what's going on over there and post the best of the worst. I might also incur the wrath of Minimanc again who tried to name and shame me on their joke of a forum (hi again Minimanc if you're lurking!)

Trying to derail again I see...

It's what Many City's owners wear on their heads.

It's one of the worst form of insults in the United Arab Emirates.

Spoke like a true Tumblrina

This is what happens when you let anyone post on the main forum and why Bluemoon is deemed a poor forum by many. Three stupid posts.

It's not racist as religion and culture does not equal race. I would say it's a bit distasteful, even if you think you can excuse it with their behavior. Now if you would excuse me, I'm gonna listen to Sean Connery pronounce City.

Exactly. I can only post 3 times a day and I would happily let go of that privilege for this nonsense to be kept out.

Meanwhile......over on Bluemoon....

Big rumours round these parts that Bryan Briggs is about to be announced as head coach at Nottm Forest.

Real shame his first job wasn't the United one... He's got zero chance of getting it now.

Would have loved to see someone worse than Moyes & Van Gaal push them further into the shit....

Ah well, lets hope 'The Latest One' implodes at OT within a season...

Think they have names for everyone over there.

What is a rag?

It refers to a time when United were poor, the kits apparently looked pretty shoddy at that time and so United (not 100% sure on that) fans came up with the rags thing.

There does appear to be a story about a very bitter City fan out there as well, who was asked to make the United kits for the 1968 European cup final against Benfica and used rag cloth.

Yes and yes.

My 1st memory of city was watching fellow kids attempt overhead kicks in 76.
Though I think by that point i'd already got a kit for footie PE... There were more blue kits than red, plus a few odd ones.

Well then you've met loads of City fans who've gone on about how City were a huge club, far too good for this division, bla bla bla.

Most Blues aren't that arsed about who's the biggest, got the most, done it for longer than anyone else. We leave that to others.

In all seriousnes, is 'rag' due to us being poor back in the day, or is it because the tabloids called "rags" are so fond of us according to opponent fans?

So they're not fussed about supposedly overtaking United, having a media conspiracy, being the best club in England right now, being able to attract the best players, having the best manager in the world right now, on the verge of total domination, having the best owners in the world, having more real fans, having the best facilities in the league etc., etc., etc ????

Ok then, whatever!

According to the interwebs, it appears that it is either from United being poor in the 1930s or from United being homeless after the Germans bombed OT in WWII.

Maybe one or two of the JCL's are but most are too busy moaning about internal stuff. If the United and Liverpool plastics (not the true fans BTW) start their usual parroting about most titles, European Cups, worldwide fans, small club who won the lottery routine then we will defend ourselves using whatever weapons come to hand.
It looks like we'll be closing the gap in the next few years. We know full well that we'll never overhaul you in any major category in my lifetime but it's good to have our time in the sun and all the old stats that were used to prove the massiveness of the world's greatest club® are no longer enough to placate you.

Ah, great taste as always from the bitters.
It's nothing to do with the war but don't let that stop you believing the worst about City.
There was a time when United were somewhat cash strapped and City donated some second hand kit to help them out. The kit was a bit threadbare and that's why the lighthearted jibe stuck.

What I find so funny is that most of the Blues that give me shit do so since I am not born in Manchester, and therefore can not be a "true" fan. But what you are aspiring to be, a global "massive" club, will achieve just the same, a lot of fans from a lot of different countries. Not necessarily just Jim from the pub around the corner.

Nope.

Figments of a fevered imagination?

Though I've met plenty of United fans who believed in the mantra of 'city will never win anything ever again' for about 20 years...

Getting a number of overseas and domestic plastics is an inevitability when you become serial winners in a top league. We'll also get some great new fans too.
You're confusing what the owners want for the club with what most of the fans want. For their investment the club do want to raise the global profile, gaining a worldwide fan base enabling them to do deals with media and commercial entities that will assist the owner recoup his outlay which is the ultimate intention.
Most Blues just want to watch good football from our team and to pick up a few trophies along the way.

NB Do you accept that you were rather hasty in your remark about great taste from the bitters?

Yeah I used to work with a couple of City fans, one from Oldham, and one from Stockport!! True blues!

Come to my place of employ, you'll find a good mix of Reds and Blues. It's in Central Manchester and most of my colleagues are from within 5 miles of "town".
