Gaming Bloodborne (PS4)

Lady Maria... she's mean:

However, shortly after, I managed to take the skank down!

I'll admit to killing her in the cheapest of fashions in the end, but you can't blame me, taking the previous vid into account

If that's being cheap then I'm the king of cheapskates. Pretty much every boss I've killed has been using the gun parry

...except for that electric beast, had to use the blood spear gun for him.

A regular gun parry is one thing, I meant the spamming of gunshots to whittle down her last bits of health from a safe distance ;P

Today's gaming sesh has just been me going "feck this!" and running past most of the Fishing Hamlet, trying to pick up the things that I can on the way. I've opened all the shortcuts, I think, and have found me way to the boss... who is pretty tricky.

Gah.

Erm, you probably hit one of the d-pad buttons (right or left, I forget which), which switches between the primary and secondary weapons, and if that slot is empty, your gun/trick weapon goes away. Press it again, it comes back. The control scheme is fine. Either you frantically hit the wrong button, or your controller is screwed up.

BSB has frustrated a lot of folks :\ mainly with his poison bullshit.

That was probably the most logical explanation alright! Whenever slow poisoning kicked in I always panicked. I didn't help that it takes a while to actually drink the antidote once you select it and he often killed me while I was doing that which frustrated the hell out of me. The poisoning was getting me every time so in the end I decided to give up for a while and focused on getting my vitality and endurance up to level 25 so I could stand more of a chance. After I did this it literally only took me two attempts to beat him when I went back.

Any idea where I go after? There doesn't seem to be any way out the back of the cathedral I fought him in. I picked up some sort of chalice and thought I might have to do something at the altar in the hunters dream to progress. Haven't been able figure it out so haven't given the game a go in a few days.

If I recall, go back to the Cathedral Ward lamp and there's a door in there that takes you up a lift and into a new area.

Is it in the cathedral itself? I'm so lost here! My biggest gripe with the game is that it explains f**k all!

Edit: I think I got it. So strange that I had to go back so far after beating the BSB though.

Now I'm at the top of some tower but I'm locked out because I need some key. A note left said I had to accept it from the unseen village?

I half wanted to tell ya... either izzydiggler was trolling you, or he forgot, but the key is hidden away in an area not available to you right now ;)

I didn't tell ya because we've all been there, battling our way up and finding feck all.

There's also some shit to explore going downwards in that tower.

I also wonder if this is the point where the gates are opened outside Cathedral Ward. If you go back to Cathedral ward, exit straight ahead and up the stairs to the right, you might find that it's open now. I'm not sure, though.

Looked it up on YouTube and it seems I have to walk out of the cathedral ward and get killed by that big dude with the bag over his shoulder on the right. You then wake up in that unseen village I mentioned?

Edit: That's after working for me. I'm in that unseen village now. Please tell me if that's some sort of cheat or glitch. I want to play the game properly. I only ask for help when I'm properly stuck or confused. Which happens to be a lot of the time in this game!

Nope. The bag men abducting you is part of the game :)

End up coming across some electrical beast. Was really struggling with that area in general and barely managed to get him down to half his health. I managed to light the lamp in the altar so I might return again after a while.

AH! It just came back to me. I was talking shit about that door on the right inside Cathedral Ward. To go on in the game you want to examine that area, not heading up the tower, but down.

I think I've made some progress. I had bought the key to open the gate in cathedral ward which is had for a while but hadn't been able find the gate. Came across it now and after some exploring I've gotten as far as Vicar Amelia. I wasn't expecting to come across her and wasn't prepared for a boss battle. I used the bold hunter thing to reawaken because I didn't want to lose the 11,000 blood echoes I had at the time. I'll give her a try next time I reach her. I opened up a load of short cuts so it might not be to bad getting back there. Is it normal to come across her before the electrical beast?

Electric beast is optional, so I'd say so. I didn't do electric beast until way later, because it was tough as feck to take on two bag men at a time. Then again, I didn't come to grips with parrying until the last boss

You can parry?! Just recently bought the kirkhammer as I'd noticed the saw cleaver wasn't as effective after I beat the BSB. Can't use it yet though as my strength is only 14 and it needs to be 16 to use it. When can I buy that sort of hybrid between a rifle and spear that everyone in YouTube seems to use? I could have sworn one guy I watched bought it just after beating the BSB but I can't see it as an option to buy it from the messengers.

I'm mainly an axe man myself, along with the saw cleaver.

You don't know about the parry dynamic? Have a gun in your hand, shoot with L2 just as an opponent is about to hit you, if you hear a special metallic noise and they fall to their knees, go up close and press R1, you should do a visceral attack.

Doesn't work on all attacks and all foes, but for most of them.

You didn't need to buy the key/seal and could have fought your way round. No matter, Vicar Amelia was the one I did next - the whole Unseen Village is something to do a bit later and is quite difficult at this point.

VA is a pain though...probably the boss I had most trouble with and after that I did most bosses first time.

Vicar Amelia caused me a ton of trouble too, and frustrated the hell out of me. She's the one who made the game click for me. I had a hard time even getting her to half health, then I decided to just go for the jugular and I found the right aggression level for this game :)

So I've jumped into this for the first time in forever and I'm greeted with a 9GB update file?! Erm what am I downloading?

Ah ya I've been parrying alright. I though ye meant that I could block.

I've given VA a few tries now. Safe to say I've found her frustrating too. As with you I think I've found the right aggression level for her. It seems that you're actually quiet safe when you get close to her and you can do some damage to her then. I'm taking plenty of damage off her but what's frustrating me is the fact that she can restore her health. I was doing really well last time I took her on but she did it at least 4 times. Only for that I'd have taken more than enough health to kill her. Is there any way to stop her doing this? She continues doing it and gaining in health even while I'm hacking at her. It's so frustrating.

Got any numbing mist? That interrupts her healing, and means she can't heal later that fight.

Bought the DLC recently and just started it...I'm obviously out of practice and having loads of trouble with Ludvig...might even have to summon some help at this rate!

I always get the urge to play through NG+ so I can give the DLC a go... and then I remember the Unseen Village.

I think I do actually. So I just throw that at the start of the fight and that's it?

Not entirely sure how long it lasts, I've always waited until she moves to heal and then throw it, in case the effect wears off, and it takes some time to whittle her down to where she needs to heal.

Ok attempted this again tonight and it went awful. It appears that the most only works once so you have to use it each time she attempts to heal herself. Im all out of it now. You don't seem to be able to buy it and I've only picked it up the once. No idea how I can beat her without it. I mean she is basically invincible when she can just gain health like that.

AFor the first time since the very start of this game I feel like giving up. I'm all for a challenge but a boss that can just gain health at will? That's just stupid. At least be inventive.

I've also noticed my insight keeps dropping. Any idea what's that's about?

I think this is the area in which Dark Souls is much better at - the bosses are hard but with enough patience and skill, they be defeated quite comfortably and failure is usually because you got greedy or made a mistake...at times Bloodborne feels a lot more luck orientated, especially on the harder bosses, given how offensive you have to be - not that there isn't skill involved, just that it doesn't seem fair. Stick with it and you'll get it eventually...after VA it was plain sailing for me, other than an optional boss.

As for losing insight, you lose when you summon for help and the creatures that *ahem* suck on your head actually take it from you...I probably lost around 20 during the game in this manner, which is again, unfair.

He's a tricky bugger. Hard enough to whittle down to 2nd phase, but he goes mental and becomes much tougher to get close to after that

Finished the whole thing now. To be honest, I wasn't a huge fan of the DLC - thought the bosses were ridiculously overpowered and it never really felt like anything other than luck when defeating them...I've said before, with the souls games they were mostly fair and your own fault if you died and about learning and being patient.

With the BB DLC bosses, you couldn't be patient and if you got close and aggressive, you couldn't really avoid being hit and when you were, it only took one devastating hit.

Finally defeated VA! As with the BSB I gave up after a while and didn't bother playing the game for a few weeks as it was just frustrating me. I then decided to give it another go and it only took me 3-4 attempts to beat her when I went back to it. I don't know why but that tactic seems to work for me.

I'm now wandering around the forest. Not exactly sure where I'm meant to be going but I'm guessing there's a few different's paths I can take. Frustratingly it seems like you can go ages around here without coming across a lamp so dying or reawakening is a bit of a pain based on the few hours I've spent in the forst.

I'm just glad I have VA finished now. Thanks for the help.

Have you gone to Hemwick yet?

Have you gone to Hemwick yet?
Is that a town? I back ally wandered around. Went passed the small abandoned village with a guy firing a cannon. Went deeper into the forest and came across some massive snake like monstors that fired purple stuff at me and then some mushroom shaped guys that fired electric bolts. I then came across a lift that brought me back up to the big tower at the end of the first village I went through. Got to the top of that where I came across a man who transformed into a female monstor. I had about 50,000 blood echoes on me so I just reawakened at that stage.

I've probably explained that badly!

You shouldn't be there yet! Unless you beat the boss in Hemwick Charnel Lane. It's to the left of the cathedral where you fought Vicar Amelia.

Yeah, head to Hemwick first. There's a piss easy boss in Hemwick and there's a very important item you get after it.

And it is one of the best areas (if not the best) for blood echo farming in the game.

Once you have beaten the boss there you can spawn at the new lamp and do a run back to the start (obviously killing everything on the way). The run might be trickier early on but once you have levelled most will be one hit kills and you'll get a decent amount of blood echoes each time. You should get a few blood vials from the roiders in the big open area as well.

How did I manage that? I did go down to left of the catedral as you come out of it. I came across some church which led me to a massive spider. It basically killed me straight away and I think I got transported to the nightmare frontier. I found that way too hard so I left it altogether as I figured the forest was the way forward.

Your other left.
