Blanc has signed for another year

Point taken.

But their performances would surely warrant a closer look don't you think?

A closer look by who ?

Exactly how has he been to blame for the defence?

Then why not let the experts like SAF handle the issue. He's quite an effective manager and has loads of experience in evaluating how good players are. Your personal comfort factor about Blanc is irrelevant.

Absolutely no one probably, but that doesn't mean that he can continue to be a very effective player for us, as he was last year. It isn't always about buying and selling players because you fear they may not live up to your expectations.

Fergie had faith in Brown and he didn't show up too good did he?

So at 37 you think he can be as effective as ever for us?

Er...I've just told you that I'm not blaming him

He was one of what was collectively a poor defence, and I'm more than happy for him to play an active part for you next season as well..

The defence is not going to remain the same as it was. Reinforcements will be brought in.

So there goes your happy season ;)

1. Brown isn't the finished article yet. He's overcome injuries and still needs to gain confidence. That doesn't mean we need to panic buy 5 new players just because your short sighted comfort factor isn't satisfied.

2. Yes. If he can be as effective as he was last year, then the addition of a big name defender like Ferdinand should round things off nicely for us. BTW, Fergie is delighted that Blanc has agreed to stay another year, which speaks volumes as to how much confidence the club have in Larry.

But this could well mean one less reinforcement..

Which is my point...

Brown is awesome, he totally controlled Jimmy Floyd and was awesome when he came back - thats how he got into the England squad off the back of a few games.

Brown will be incredible if he can stay injury free - he will only get better. No one who knows football will deny this. Only idiots will point to his mistakes and laugh. At his best he is as good as the likes of Rio/Stam at stopping attacks, which is why he is there.

Theres no argument here. Blanc is a Man Utd player and he can still do a job for us. We'e lost many defenders this year, losing anymore will be a catastrophe. We're already short and a few injuries can totally destroy us at the back.

We've got 6 recognised defenders, 2 injuries leaves us with no back up, 3 means we have no back 4. Consider Gaz is out and Brown is injury prone, its a tightrope as it is. Its vital that Blanc stays.

Dont even know if we can rely on Brown to last a season, or O'Shea for that matter.

Brown at 22 still needs more confidence? And Ferdinand at 23 just signed off the WC with a series of brilliant performances. Never mind, there's still a year for Brown to catch up on Ferdie ;)

Meanwhile Fergie's search for a centre-half or two continues and when gets him (or them), Brown's got plenty of time sitting on the bench gaining confidence

About panic buying, we have already bought Luke Steele and we are purportedly looking for a defender or two, a striker and perhaps a versatile midfielder and a keeper. Of course it could be five buys there or it could be none ;)

Steele was hardly a panic buy. You want @ least 5 more players in,, you really are

I thought you mentioned in another thread that you want Blanc to be replaced?

I thought I told you that I don't play cm?
So you think Brown's a better player than Rio by virtue of medals? Hell, Daviv May and Yorke must be better then ;)

If Brown plays well, I'd like to see him in the first team. If he commits lots of errors like he did last season, can't blame anybody for sitting on the bench.

I am not for or against pricey players as long as we get players who can do their jobs well

Did I say that I wanted 5 players in? Looking at the way we have already lost five and very possibly more, I won't be surprised if 5 or thereabouts join us.

I never said he was better, i think you could show our most promising player a bit of respect.

You named 2 def, a keeper, a striker, & a midfielder. That was 5 when i went to school.

You just dont understand a thing about football do you?

You don't comprehend English too well do you?

I mentioned "Utd are purportedly getting...."

based on tabloid talk and hearsay of course

And you flipped because of that

I happen to think our most promising player is O'Shea

And get a lesson or two in anger management - you're losing control....

You'd get more respect on this forum if you showed some respect to our players instead of constantly suggesting we buy new ones.

Perhaps it's certain players that you are driving at

I do respect players like Blanc and Brown but that doesn't mean I would like them to stay in the first team

You'd like to sell them and buy a few foreigners wouldn't you. Go on, admit it.

He was class, now is nothing special..

Good on the ball and composed but this is not the type of CB you need IMO...a defence of Neville, Blanc, One other and Silvestre is nothing to worry about

You can't sell Blanc, he's free ;) and yes I would have liked to see him retire gracefully

Brown I did keep as he's got a few more years to prove himself worthy

And yes we need to buy - foreigners or otherwise.

Wouldn't you agree about that last point?
So

I thought I mentioned I'll support him in all his games for us?

What makes you so sure that one other won't be a significant impact on the defence?

I'd rather see us buy qualified players with the following backgrounds.

1. English
2. Anywhere in the British Isles
3. Rest of Europe (excluding Italy)
4. Italy
5. South Americans

its not about 'support' the fact is that he's still a very good defender..and most united fans that have seen him play will have noticed... i must admit that i was unhappy when Blanc, replaced Stam(a fav)..but over the course of the season he's won me over..inparticularly after i saw him play at OT... class act he is..and a pleasure to watch

I agree with that order

Its possible..

I just can't see one player sorting out the shambles that was your defence for much of last year..particularly if its another "ball playing" CB such as Ferdinand

we'll have to change our style of play... put nesta, rio or samuel in there and they struggle....

i hate to see a change in style TBH.

It's not so much of one player sorting it out for us, it's also the knock-on physcological effect he would have on the rest of the defence particularly if it's a player like Rio or someone of that ilk

Right Itchy, here's your chance for redemption.

List your inbound transfer requests. Be specific with the names.

I'm not convinced that you have to change the style of your whole team, just create a defensive unit that can learn to play together...

And I think you need one CB who is dominant..good in the air and if he's in any doubt re likely danger will boot the ball to row Z if necessary...not pass it to an opponent in a cultured fashion
