But surely, he would prefer to meet Man United without the man who played him out of the game - it would make it even easier to beat us, wouldn't it?

I think I understand know

Players who don't experience winning major medals like the Championship and the Champions League usually see wins against Man united as the highlight in their careers

Poor Michael, must be really gutted seeing Man United and Arsenal players pick up that Championship trophy year after year

;)

Well, he had to wait for a long time and must have suffered a lot through those seasons when you couldn't beat us as well as seeing us winning the title - again

Yeah but he's a Liverpool fan...so when he thinks of the past it puts a smile on his face..

We have a better past than you, you see...

Somehow I knew you'd mention my name in a "Blanc stays" thread

Too bad there weren't odds offered for it ;)

Easy there Panic Buyer. Does this mean we can expect a year of you bad mouthing Larry ? ;)

No, Fergie has already stated a few months back that he will still go for new defenders even if Blanc stays

He'll keep his word

Hopefully that will be Rio. Fergies back from his break so hopefully something will happen in the next week. Robbie Keane's rejected transfer is good news for us IMO.

Yes you may

This could well mean that you'll sign one less CB, which I believe to be a good thing..

I'm happy for you to play Blanc, its a proven fact that you concede more than your fair share of goals with him in the team... ;)

On the contrary I'll give him my full support for the entire season.

Since he's signed, let's hope he does his best for us - at least he seems keen to do well.

Bear in mind however that he's not going to improve unlike the silvestres and browns.

Besides Mexes, who else would you want to replace him when he hangs up his boots next year?

Or is Blanc going to sign a new five-year contract next summer? ;)

I am not putting too much hope in the case of Rio Ferdinand "impending" move to us. Risdale has repeatedly stated that he refuses to sell Rio and let's not forget that all-important clause in Rio's contract.

I'm more hopeful with Ayala and Thuram. Hell, we might as well save a few bob and go for Marquez and Coly!

Hey, go easy on lchk. He knows Fergie. Keep going lchk...

If we sign a world class player like Ferdinand this year, then it will give us more options next year. I'd opt for any of Chris Riggott, John Terry, or Phillipe Mexes. All would compliment Rio, as would Wes Brown. Brown's progress this year will play a huge role in our transfer plans for next year. Terry would be fantastic if he can put his legal problems behind him. He's a United fan and would probably jump at the chance of coming to OT (as would Duff).

The entire season? That's good of you. Although I'm suspicious that there may be someone to whom you'll give your support for say only 3/4 of the season. Who's the unlucky player do we think?

I think he's not that keen to do well actually. I think he's signed for a laugh.

Have we got two Silvestres then? And two browns too?

I would lay the blame down on us conceding goals last season to the entire defence and keeper, not just Blanc so it's unfair to scapegoat him.

Contrary to popular opinion on this forum, I am not too keen on Blanc playing as a first team player for two reasons:

1. Age does catch up with you, at best he will keep his form but he certainly won't improve

2. It delays the chance for us to start a brand new central defensive partnership. We will have to go hunting around for another central defender when blanc retires

That's right - fergie always breaks his promises, it's a proven fact certified by dans

I see you know me pretty well - three-quarters you say?

1. Blanc is already playing at a very high level. He makes up for his age and lack of pace with experience and positioning.

2. On the contrary, it allows Rio and Wes to develop a partnership in the games where Wes plays. Allowing them to gradually work together will be more beneficial in the long run.

Why is it that at every oportunity Davo turns a thread into Liverpool vs Man utd? I don't come on this site to listen to never ending arguments about Liverpoo'....now & again is ok as they are great rivals but isn't this getting really boring...AEBM perhaps you should give him your handle...I'm not saying you don,t talk sense occasionally Davo, I have listened carefully to a lot you have said, both pos' & neg' and as far as it goes its okay but change the record mate eh!

I know Blanc has a lot of quality - my fear is that he might pull a McAllister or Irwin and suffer a drop in form and fitness due to being another year older

Let me play the devil's advocate - if Blanc was available in the transfer market today, how many top clubs would sign him?

You seem very sure that Rio is coming, contrary to all the noise being made by Risdale and the Leeds PLC about Ferdinand not being for sale. Don't get yourself too high on this mate, there might very well be a massive disappointment for all of us

About Wes, I would rather have O'Shea in front of him in the queue as the young irish lad seems to have a cooler head and just as much ability

But more importantly, what's your opinion on Heskey?

Then why not let the experts like SAF handle the issue. He's quite an effective manager and has loads of experience in evaluating how good players are. Your personal comfort factor about Blanc is irrelevant.

Absolutely no one probably, but that doesn't mean that he can continue to be a very effective player for us, as he was last year. It isn't always about buying and selling players because you fear they may not live up to your expectations.

Nesta
Ayala
Thuram
Coly
Marquez

Any other players who you just recently saw for the first time that you'd like to buy ?

Excellent news. He and G Neville were United's most solid central defensive pairing last season.
:D

I pressume you have been watching Coly and Marquez for quite awhile haven't you?

Perhaps since their kindergarten days, Omniscient moderator.

I agree, I'm not putting all the blame on Blanc..

But my point still stands

I haven't, but then again I haven't been parroting that we should buy them and ditch Blanc either.
