Television Better Call Saul | Includes Breaking Bad Spoilers

Kim really pushed things with Howard, Jimmy is obviously culpable but he wanted to leave it and walk away but she pushed to continue it.
Jimmy still bears the brunt of the blame He's the orchestrator and Kim wouldn't have been able to this herself.

Been catching up with this over the last few days and just watched the latest episode.

feck me.

This whole season has been great, maybe it’s because I binged it but I don’t understand the “filler” complaints above, the show has always had a fairly slow pace but it’s done brilliantly.

Didn’t realise there was a break. FML.
Agreed, I don't get it either, they talk about "filler" (the "filler" criticism has been a constant for 6 seasons and over 50 episodes now XDD) when it's actually just the way the show is. The show is like that, you either take it or leave it, but if you don't enjoy the slower episodes, which definitely make up the vast majority of the show, I'd say the show is just not for you, and that's okay. And this comes from someone who is only moderately invested in this universe; I watched BB and enjoyed it very much for the most part, but I feel it's slightly overrated when it's put up there with the best tv series ever. However, I think BCS, in its own more modest scope/ambitions, has been absolutely fantastic from day one, the style is perfectly recognisable, always effective and usually quite beautiful, the casting choices have been nothing short of perfect (Kim and now Lalo as highlights that will have to be mentioned when people list their best tv performances ever), and I reckon the writing has been competent enough.

He is super entertaining and it's a great performance. But I wouldn't say he is as well written as Jimmy, Kim or Chuck.

The early episode featuring Mike was arguably the best episode of either series and Jonathan Banks’ performance was astonishing.

When this was first announced, I was sure it would flop because Breaking Bad was so popular and (IMO) very very good.

But I'm very glad I was wrong.

My only personal preference would be to see more of the post-Breaking Bad "Gene" timeline. I can't even remember the last thing that happened?

Didn't he say "I'll take care of it myself" or something like that - almost certainly hinting at it being very central to the final run, either juxtaposed together throughout.... or they conclude the BCS storyline early with the answer to Kim... then do an episode or two in the modern day.

Was trying to avoid this until the full season aired but I relented and binged them all - what an incredible season so far. Glad I only have to wait a day for the next episode

They are pushing it on social media with behind the scenes too much, actors talking about their characters, etc., you would think they ended the show, and there are still many things left to end. Thought it's weird.

Hard to believe that this whole universe seems to be about to draw to a close.

Honestly, that was better than Ozymandias.

Cracking episode, makes Breaking Bad's lab episodes ever more dark

...knowing that Walt and Jesse were standing over Lalo and Howard's graves the whole time.

Is it that intense? This is one of those shows I have to be in the right frame of mind for. If I'm already feeling stressed, I can't do it. Just couldn't watch it at all during lockdown, for example!

This season has been the most intense, and yes, this particular episode is dark and at times stressful. Wait until you're in a good mood, sit down with some snacks and a drink and enjoy it as entertainment - but not if you're feeling anxious.

Already watched it! And I agree, it's been a lot less intense for most of its run, with the exception of the end of last season.

Incredible episode of television.

For some reason, I feel like the season could have peaked early and we won't get an amazing run of final episodes. But then I think it's Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould and what they did with Breaking Bad. Very much a bit of the final season feeling of Breaking Bad when it seemed like there wasn't much else they could do.

Still, we'll get to see Walt and Jesse, Kim's outcome and hopefully a full episode of post-Breaking Bad with Gene coming back as Saul. I'd be content with a post-Breaking Bad reunion of Jimmy & Kim, but I get the feeling it won't be quite that simple...

I wondered if it might have peaked too soon also, but

they still have to deal with what happens to Kim, she's not in Breaking Bad and Saul is. We know he'll survive, but something terrible may happen to her. I'm not convinced Jimmy's clear of cartel business just yet. I believe we're also going to see Walter and Jesse at some point before the season is out, will be interesting to see how they fit them in and in what capacity. Probably just a cameo.

By the time El Camino was filmed, Jesse's character was 10 years older and for some of the 2008 flashback scenes they dressed him in his original Breaking Bad outfits (baggy skater jeans, hoodie) and it just didn't quite work :D

I’m going to slightly break with some of the above comments, don’t get me wrong it was brilliant but once Jimmy talked Lalo into letting Kim go instead of him, there was no jeopardy.

We know Jimmy lives, so he’s gonna be fine, we know Gus is who Kim is being sent to shoot and we know he lives. We also know the house is under surveillance by Mikes people and they’ll see Kim coming.

Again with the scene in the laundry/lab, we know Gus isn’t dying so we kinda know where things are going.

It was executed fantastically well, but it’s hamstrung by being a prequel and us knowing certain people can’t be harmed.

Anybody knows why 8th episode is not showing yet on my Netflix? I'm in Slovenia, central Europe.

Edit: contacted their support. In some countries release is delayed because of subtitle issues including in mine but to be fair there are no Slovenian subtitles in m country.

This is all undeniably true, and a classic pitfall of a prequel is that it gives certain characters invulnerability, but that said I was expecting Fring's men to kill Kim when she arrived at his house armed.

It was very good, but pales a bit when compared to the previous episode.

Didn’t expect to see Lalo depart soon quickly.

Also, does the back hoe just live in the basement?

Obviously, there's absolutely very little it can do with being a prequel, but that being said, it was still very good and now you're into borderline unpredictability territory -
Like we know Saul 'survives' - but will he actually given they are about to bring us to the present to coincide with not actually knowing what's gonna happen with Kim. Who the hells even apparently after Gene anyway or is he just going to end up in a pit of his own paranoia?

There's no real cartel story to tell though is there, so it's 5 episodes on the above mostly. Never expected them to end the Lalo story so swiftly after the slowburn to get here, watching it as one singular run, that's gonna feel somewhat out of place pacewise I think, but as a blockbuster premiere, maybe not so.

PS

RIP Sweet Lalo, we never truly knew you. Legend

Couldn't give a toss about awards really but I'd really like Odenkirk and Seehorn to win the Emmys they were nominated for.

Also, Lyle...

Brilliant episode. The only loose end is Kim's story now.

This is well-said and it's why I prefer Breaking Bad. Obviously you know Walt isn't going to die mid-season but everything else is on the table, which can never be the case in a prequel. That said this series has been absolutely fantastic and when taken as a whole (BB, Saul and El Camino, which was just fine) it's among my favourite TV ever. I love everything about it, even Anna Gunn's Skyler!

That was incredible.

4 episodes remaining is a bit mad though. I'm still unsure whether Kim will end up being killed off or just decide to feck off away from Jimmy. I feel like if Kim was to die then Jimmy would have been a much more messed up character in Breaking Bad instaead of smily, happy Saul.

At the same time, I can also see Gus deciding to be a prick and killing off Kim just because, and even the Salamanca twins are still around this point right? They could feck shit up for four episodes if they find out what's gone on.
