I'm watching it more in hope than anything else.
Agree with pretty much all of that. Fairly disappointed with the latest episode. It's becoming one of those shows that I watch while doing something else. I've been watching The Wire recently, which is a fairly slow-paced show as well, but BCS is on a different level. We've had close to 7 hours of this show now and you could probably sum up the season in a few short paragraphs.
Regarding the BB comparison (which is inevitable, considering it's made by the same people and has some of the same characters) it's pretty clear that BCS is still living off BB at least somewhat. It's a decent show in itself, but the fact that they're including Mike this much makes it look like they aren't really sure where to go with this. Don't get me wrong, some of the Mike scenes are great, but the show is called "Better Call Saul" and it feels like Mike and Saul has progressed about the same so far. Maybe they should've spent some more time coming up with ideas, but then they'd risk some of the hype to fade of course (maybe @Ramshock can enlighten us on the politics of AMC given his intimate knowledge - was BCS rushed?).
I want to root for Jimmy but we also know his brother will end up screwing him over or something (maybe ends up taking the case from him to his partner / firm) which sends Jimmy over the edge.
He hasn't really lost it all, though, has he? I assume he'll give the case to HHM now, securing a payday from which he'll build his "empire" so to speak. You've got to feel for Jimmy. He has clearly always looked up to his big brother and always wanted to be like him. He finally feels like he is about to get his dream and then it's all taken away. Not by his "arch enemy" but by his big brother.
He has stood by him when others clearly wouldn't, got him back onto his feet and almost back to reality, then through jealousy and ego denies his young brother the only thing he wanted in life.
Jimmy is clearly a very proud person, and would rather be poor and struggling than lose what he feels he deserves. Perhaps he is stubborn and stupid, but that's his perogative.
It will now be interesting to see how he rebuilds himself after practically losing it all. I assume he somehow connects again with Mike, maybe helping him in a run in with the mexican guy at the drug deal (forgot his name).
I can see why people may be a little dissapointed if they thought it was going to be like the ending of BB, all guns blazing and action every week, but that was clearly not the writers intention from the beginning. I have a feeling though once he becomes "Saul Goodman" things will start getting more action packed.
That remains to be seen, but I assume he is going to abandon the whole lot. He clearly feels deeply upset and betrayed by his brother, I wouldn't be surprised if he leaves them all behind and starts again. He hasn't really lost it all, though, has he? I assume he'll give the case to HHM now, securing a payday from which he'll build his "empire" so to speak.
have to say I don't get the negativity myself - really enjoying the show and the development of Jimmy's story - Mike is such a great character and the show has a real humorous side to it.....
Agree with this. Nothing wrong with a slower pace at times, when you have good characters.
It's a bit like 'Ashes to Ashes' suffering in comparison to 'Life on Mars'; try and take Better Call Saul on it's own merits.
I actually think he is a more likeable character than Walter White.
feck! I KNEW I recognised his voice!!!!Trevor from GTA V
Trevor from GTA V
Great episode. Easily up there with the Mike episode.
More Mike please.
And that guy who bought the pills (can't remember his name), could he be working for Gus and introduce Mike to Gus?
Last night's episode was definitely an improvement on the last few, which had the show becoming quite stale.
Mike is such a badass.
There's a common theme developing, decent episodes revolve around at least as much, if not more, Mike than they do Saul.
Don't get the Mike hype. His scene looked way too forced and fake in the latest episode in order to make him look like a badass. Meh.
Now there's a show!Complete snooze fest of a finale. They used this season to set up Jimmy as a good guy who got burned trying to do the right thing and has now decided to go crooked. Only problem was we didn't need 10 episodes of him doing the right thing over and over. It's like seeing Walter White teach Chemistry for one whole season.
