Best 10 players in the world atm?

But you can see with your eyes that Bale is a class player, a player any other team would fear. He is worthy of the list.

How the hell is Neymar getting so many mentions?

One good season in La Liga is good enough to put you in the world's top 10...really?

Because he's also involved in tax cases, like messi

Without a doubt, and in no way did my post mean to suggest that he isn't a class player. But with his recent form (and when I mean recent, I'm looking at the past year or so), he just isn't near the top 10. Just curious to think why people have put him there, if it is based on form that was brought on from last year or not.

I swear to God that Caf doesn't even watch Madrid. It is completely unexplainable how Bale gets so many nominations despite doing feck all for a long time.

Very dissapointed in @Invictus.

Fair enough, Bale was subpar last season. But I do think a lot of it has to do with the second season syndrome as it were, the load of expectations on him coming off the back of a season where he was quite sensational at times, him being a scapegoat for Madrid's collective failing last season, and the fact that he wasn't always put in situations that accentuated his strengths as a player (unlike at Tottenham under Villas-Boas, or for Wales where he was the focal point of the team).

James was better than Bale last season, but we need to bear in mind that the period was probably Bale's worst in a while, so it's not like we're comparing their peak, or even median level as players. I think this season we'll see the best of Bale, or something approaching that level. Again, James is technically more proficient, and a better passer, some might put him in the Top 10, I don't have an argument against that. But Bale can influence games to a greater degree in terms of decisiveness, and sheer productivity (a kind of handicap in a team with Ronaldo where his freedom is restricted, and his operative space is more condensed).

Plus, he's started this season on fire, and is an animal for Wales. That should be factored in too. Again, it also depends on the time frame one uses to categorize the players. Mine was more speculative with the near future in mind, hence the omission of someone like Robben. And it's wasn't even 100% objective either. I personally prefer Bale, and Reus (when fit) over James in terms of their overall outlook. Maybe some don't. Totally understandable.

Mahrez was no where near the top 10 last season, Bale was.

Mahrez was nowhere near the top 10 last season, Bale was no nowhere near the top 10 last season.

Bale was just about in Real Madrid's top 10.

I disagree, Bale had better stats than the PFA player of the year last season playing in a team where he got booed for no reason and was playing 2nd fiddle to Ronaldo.

Bale's stats last season masked a lot of poor performances. He was terrible vs Barcelona at the Nou Camp. Was also poor vs Juventus in both legs.

Real Madrid played their best football without him last season imo

He's been much better this season so far though tbf

1. Messi
2. Ronaldo
3. Neymar
4. Muller
5. Suarez
6. Robben
7. Lewandowski
8. Neuer
9. Benzema
10. D. Silva

He got booed because he was shite, lazy and was only in the team because the president demanded it. Real Madrid's strongest 11 last season didn't include him.

Good stats, poor performances.

Bale hasn't been a top 10 player the season before, too (nevertheless, he was quite great that season). His only season when he was a top 10 player in the world was 12-13.

So, if he hasn't been a top 10 player in the last 2 seasons (and last season not even a top 50 player, based only on club performances), then I find it extremely weird for people to put him on top 10.

Very debatable. Only Casillas from the starting eleven was worse than him, while Isco (from the reserves) was better than him.

He probably wasn't in top 10 players of Madrid last season.

Messi
Ronaldo
Iniesta
Suarez
Neuer
Neymar
Vidal
Aguero
Rakitic
Bale

A couple of personal favourite midfielder's that others may not agree with but the rest pretty much pick themselves.

Also Robben would have made this list twelve months ago, maybe as high as fourth but for me the other players mentioned have been more influential for club and country over the last twelve months. In Bale's case he's carried Wales/

If you dont have Neymar in the list then you are a complete and utter fecking moron. It really is that simple.

James was 'much' better than Bale. I am not counting number of goals/assists, but it's clear that James is a totally different calibre of player than Bale. Bale is a simple hit and run player with no eye for passes or control of the game. He is fast and has a good free-kick. That's all he has, but James is way ahead of him in football intelligence and overall game. I don't want United to get Bale, as Madrid will probably play worse with him in free #10 role.

Bale being picked a lot in these lists, very strange, there are probably more than 10 players who have been better than him over the year.

Scary that 3 of the top 10 players play for Barca, they have great front 3. Maybe best of all time?

Messi
Ronaldo
Suarez
Neymar
Muller
James
Iniesta
Lewandowski
Veratti
Sanchez

Aguero just misses out. 12 months ago Robben would've been a shoe in, but he's been injured so much, had to leave him out. Silva is over rated as feck, as is Hazard. Modric a nice player, as is Kroos but prefer Veratti. Bale is a big miss, has the talent to be in there, just have to see it more. Preferred him as a proper winger.

Messi
Ronaldo
Neymar
Suarez
Muller
Iniesta
Aguero
Modric
Lewandowski
James

Vidal and Robben would have been close or even made that list, but have been injured or working their way back from injuries in the past season.
Bale was poor for the vast majority of last season despite his stats. I think he will push his way comfortably back in the top 10 this season with the way he's started.

Well still there is nothing what justifies a third place for him.

Top 10? Sureley! Top 5? Not sure. It's always a lot about hype with Neymar. I would never pick him ahead of an inform Robben, Aguero or Suarez for example.

Robben's top level is Messi's top level minus the passing IMO, which makes him the second best in the world when at his best.

I won't compare the two to be fair. They're currently the two best GK's at the moment along with Courtois.
True, there's very little in it. They a little way ahead of Courtois and the rest of the field is way behind.

Messi and Ronaldo are a level above anyone else, I don't think that's even debatable.

Consistency wise yes, so overall Ronaldo is the better player compared to Robben. But Robben has a higher top level than Ronaldo.

So fans boo their players because they are playing badly and they think booing is going to help? There's no excuse to boo any player when their not on form especially a player that scored the winners in both the Copa Del Ray and their first Champions League in over a decade, winning them the famous La Decima. He also doesn't speak the language, but he's learning and you can see he is clearly trying to be a success which should be applauded. And even then, he wasn't that bad last season, these fans boo anyone, even Ronaldo sometimes - it's absurd.

I don't think Robben has a higher peak than Ronaldo. Ronaldo can do everything.

I'm not sure I've seen a player with a higher top level than Ronaldo. Except Messi, perhaps.

He can't beat a man consistently, he can't control the ball as closely as a number of good and top footballers and he has less imagination/finesse than some. His passing is simple and consistent. He can do pretty much everything else.

I'm not sure I've seen a player with a higher top level than Ronaldo. Except Messi, perhaps.
Robben, Suarez, Aguero.

When the general narrative is that Ronaldo is a glorified Huntelaar or Inzaghi, comments like these occur.

Pompeous American arse.
