There was no way he could have remained a Spurs player for the season after that. Lets face it though, if the transfer window closed 2 weeks ago then Berbatov would already be a United player. United and Spurs would have got this slow dance over with a lot quicker. Spurs are just stringing it out as close to the window as they can.

The one 'good' point that came from the Sunday Supplement was this. It seems like they may already have replacement(s) lined up. If that is the case, this could go all the way to the deadline, as there will be no great rush for them to get it done. If they don't, they will start chasing around the world looking for players, which, again, may mean this goes right to the deadline.
The big question is whether Spurs feel they can get to the eve of the deadline with one striker? If so, there is unlikely to be movement any time soon. If they don't, then I think Berbatov will be on his way as soon as they bring someone in.
