Ronaldo said quite clearly that he would only move if United were happy with the deal, which I take to mean the transfer fee. I think this statement was widely ignored in all subsequent discussions.

An unwilling player used to receive 5% of the transfer fee, although I could be out of date there, but I'm sure any club signing Ronaldo would have paid him a huge signing-on bonus. If they hadn't been told to feck off, that is.

all swings & roundabouts mate.

"if United were happy with the deal" ???????? Huge "if" but even "if" we agreed to let him go and got 90m, I suppose that would've fitted Ron's requirements nicely. Trouble is, Madrid can't even afford half of that. Ron was being, shall we say "expedient" and probably saying what his agent told him to say. He wanted to go without treading on toes as long as those toes weren't able to kick back at him. Heads: Ron wins. Tails: Ron wins.

On the day of a match? Doubt it.

Maybe Rafael's getting a game.

why not on the day of a match? It would be a suprise

Maybe on of the twins will play? Fergies said attacking wise we're really down to our bare bones. Fabio might get some minutes. exciting times...or maybe not :)

It would definitely be a surprise, but I would think it could definitely act as a distraction too.

Who knows, not much else I can think of and they are both in the squad.

I reckon, sadly that Fergies having a joke at the journos expense who seem to be at their clueless peak this summer. As in, 'see what bollocks you can make up with that'.

Would be nice if it weren't though

I watched back a few more times what Fergie said yesterday about we "might be surprised what's going to happen over the next 2 days".

The more I watched it, the more I feel he was just joking, because he said he had "no comment at all to make", and then straight away after it said "you might be surprised what's going to happen over the next 2 days".

It was like a complete contradiction of the first line. When he said the second line he looked over to his left hand side and winked at someone with a smile on his face. His personal assistant I think.

I wouldn't be getting my hopes up over anything.

The surprise will be that he buys no one

Probably. I rarely read much into what he actually says to the press, other than news about injuries.

Exclsuive: Andrei Arshavin on his way to Tottenham

Tottenham are ready to clinch the signing of Russian star Andrei Arshavin this weekend - and open the door for Dimitar Berbatov to join Manchester United.
White Hart Lane supremo Daniel Levy has made the breakthrough on the protracted move to land Euro 2008 ace Arshavin, with a deal of just over £20million to be settled with Zenit St Petersburg.
Arshavin, 27, is waiting on the nod to fly in today as his club accept she wants to go and they drain every penny out of the transfer. The Russian playmaker agreed terms weeks ago.
Coach Juande Ramos demanded Arshavin was signed before Berbatov was sold. The Bulgarian met chairman Levy again yesterday in a bid to finally force through his move.

We should probably interrupt our regular program, and have a press conference for it.

It's only when players of Fatty's class extend. We need a bus parade for Ronaldo and then he'll sign alongside George Bush in Air Force One.

Berbatov has arrived at the Riverside with the rest of the Squad.

We'll see soon if he starts or makes the bench.

Fergie was SSN earlier and when asked about transfer he said..."We're looking at three of four different options in different areas, these things take time with negotiations etc.."

When asked about Berbatov he said..."We've never said anything about Berbatov, we're looking at two or three options".

That will probably be his answer for nearly every question about Berbatov until we actually sign him.

Yep, he has to be very careful with what he says, especially as Spurs reported them to the Premier League.

Obviously he doesn't want to reveal his hand either with regards to new signings.

all the spurs fans are saying that signing Arshavin doesnt mean that Berbs is off, apparently Arshavin was always going to be the replacement for Keane.

So they sell Keane without a replacement and now they want a replacement before Berbs can be let off?

apparently they have been after Arshavin for a while. If he comes in then they will prob let Berbs go but maybe try and bring in a target man like Santa Cruz to strengthen the forward line.

It most certainly will I think.

I think Ramos is only going to play one up, i.e. Bent/Arshavin, with a big contribution coming from midfield with the likes of Dos Santos, Bentley and Modric all capable of scoring goals regularly.

---------------Jenas-----Zokora

------- Bentley-----Modric------Dos Santos

---------------- Bent/Arshavin

You could even shuffle the formation at times to play Dos Santos or Modric behind the front man. There are many options really in the forward area without Berbatov.

They signed Bentley with the Keane cash. If Arshavin arrives, it will be from the Berbatov cash.

Arshavin will never lead the Spurs attack. :wenger:
