Berbatov rocks Spurs with transfer request

« Previous « PreviousNext » Next »View GalleryDimitar Berbatov last night handed Tottenham a transfer request in a bid to force his dream move to Manchester United, according to reports.

And the striker will be on the bench at Middlesbrough today.

A close pal told the Sun: "Dimi's decided to put in a transfer request.

"He can't wait to go to Old Trafford and play for United.

"He feels he behaved professionally throughout this period.

"He has never spoken publicly on the situation out of respect for Tottenham.

"But he does not want to miss out on the start of United's season and he feels that was his only option left."

Berbatov, 27, took action as his move to Old Trafford has stalled over the transfer fee.

Spurs want £30million but United have offered £20m.

"a close pal" is the best they can come up with but you nevern know. Could be something in it. He should've done this earlier. He's saving Spurs the remainder of his contract (wages) which would effectively bring the price down. He'll soon make it up in wages at OT.

A close pal of his, or a close pal of The Sun?

He, apparently, held a meeting with a bigwig or two, yesterday. If so, I doubt it was about new boots.

If he has handed in a transfer request, will we get him for a little less money now?

No his agent will get no agent fee, or if he gets a good fee and contract will get some under the table

So I guess we can pull out our cocks again? Or shall we wait wheter spurs are playing berbs or not?

I'm actually getting a bit excited at last.

Keep your cock in the pants for now. They haven't released the lineups for the games yet.

well, probably less than 30m. By handing in the transfer request, he foregoes having the remainder of his contract paid up by Spurs. Nice work if.....eh? They don't expect much do they? He wants to go to United but was reluctant (aren't they all Ronnie?) to hand in the transfer request because he'd miss out on the 4 years pay that he would've got thrown in. Still, he'll perhaps be on at least 80k p/week as opposed to his 50? or so at Spurs. He should get by - if anyone sees him around town, do the right thing and shout him a beer.

If he lives up to expectations I'll be more than happy to shout him a beer. I'll shout any fooker a beer if he helps deliver a big trophy

I've said for a few days now Berbatov not handing in a transfer request was one of the stumbling blocks. The other wanting the full fee up front.

The Sun on this occasion might be on the righteous path.

Praise it be

Haha...

The rumour on the Balague website is Barca are also interested in Arshavin.

This just keeps getting better!

I watched back a few more times what Fergie said yesterday about we "might be surprised what's going to happen over the next 2 days".

The more I watched it, the more I feel he was just joking, because he said he had "no comment at all to make", and then straight away after it said "you might be surprised what's going to happen over the next 2 days".

It was like a complete contradiction of the first line. When he said the second line he looked over to his left hand side and winked at someone with a smile on his face. His personal assistant I think.

I wouldn't be getting my hopes up over anything.

I heard a football journalist once say that when they get quotes from a "friend of a player" it's usually the player himself, asking to be off the record.

This pleases me.

More likely just a way to make up a story out of thin air.
That doesn't please me. .

A mate of mine is a sports journo, and if he is to be believed, Bahama's reading of it is closer to the truth. Claiming the "friend" angle is easy, because it can never be disproven, as it could be any of his friends, and they will never be asked to reveal their source.

It was Berbatov himself, wearing a comedy moustache and glasses. Tribal just confirmed it.

A "friend" of a player is usually a local cab driver or the journalist's own attempt at making a story out of nothing.

"A person familiar with's X's thinking" is also 99% of the time complete BS.

We will suprised..

I think we will sign Berbs.. But in the assistant managers position.

Fergie said in two days.. that was yesterday.. and tomorrow is the match.. I think we will not sign anyone.. the surprise will be during the match.. its Welbeck fit? Maybe Fabio as a striker?

Ronaldo said quite clearly that he would only move if United were happy with the deal, which I take to mean the transfer fee. I think this statement was widely ignored in all subsequent discussions.

An unwilling player used to receive 5% of the transfer fee, although I could be out of date there, but I'm sure any club signing Ronaldo would have paid him a huge signing-on bonus. If they hadn't been told to feck off, that is.
