Benzema or Kane? Genuine question.

Which striker would you prefer at United?

Ronaldo was an 18 year old superstar in the making. It was obvious.

Kane could quite easily be the next Kevin Phillips or James Beattie. He'd never really shown signs of being a 30 goal striker until this season. I hope he isn't a one season wonder as there are so few quality strikers in the Premier League.

Benzema has consistent numbers year on year so you know exactly what you're getting (not that we're ever getting that).

Not really, I remember watching a reputable Italian TV football show back then. Most of the critics (including Arrigo Sacchi) were amazed that United had spent 12m on a tall lanky 18 year old who could only dribble

Never been that impressed with Benzema. Spanish cast-offs don't seem to work out that well.

Kane after the season he's had + the Levy factor would cost an astronomical amount. We're talking about approximately £50m.

Benzema is the better player, it's no contest, the question in that regard, I'd ask in such a choice is how invested in United he'd be if he was thrown out of Real despite his wishes and had to settle for someone else, in his mind it would be a step down. Ozil for example hasn't really impressed all that much having been forced to take a step down, compared to his displays at Real and Werder Bremen where his career was on the way up.

Kane's overall game has been very impressive this year, regardless of his goal tally, If we purchased him it would be a step up in his mind, food for thought.

The reality is I don't think we'd be able to get either this summer anyway.

Where do I start?

Man. Utd paid more than that for Rojo and a lot more than that for Fellaini. Hell, they paid £30m for Shaw.

Kane has just scored 31 goals, 21 in the league, despite not starting in the league until a good chunk of the season had elapsed. On top of this he has scored 9 goals in his last 12 international appearances and has just been voted Young Player of the Year. He's two-footed, scores every type of goal, puts in 100% effort every game, is a model professional and dedicated to getting better and better.

His all-round game is excellent (he doesn't just score goals), with no real weaknesses. He has reasonable pace, holds the ball up well, good passer of the ball, is strong, tenacious, good at dribbling and composed.

And apart from anything else he has just signed a very long contract at a club that he doesn't want to leave, which doesn't need money, whose chairman doesn't wish to sell and is known to be a tough negotiator to the point of recently getting a world record fee.

And you say, in the face of all this, in a league that's awash with money, that Kane "should be no more than £20 million" ??? The mind boggles.
If Kane were all that where was he before this season? We'll see how good he is next season before we start talking about how amazing he is and his true worth.

Before this season he was aged just 20 and busy scoring 8 goals in 10 games for England U-21s, plus 4 goals (3 in the league) for Spurs mainly from subs bench appearances. So wherever he was in that season, it certainly wasn't nowhere.

And whatever his "true worth", it's certainly much more than the £20m figure cited.

Not until he's proven himself for more than one season it isn't. He was scoring 14 goals in over 50 games at lower levels before. I'm sure you knew that though.

It sounds like you're desperate to do him down ... perhaps you'd like to further dismiss him on the basis of goal-scoring record - whatever that was - when he was 14 or 15?

Anyhow, I'll happily stand by my claim that a "no more than £20m" valuation for Kane is cloud-cuckoo land. You're a fool for thinking otherwise.

Not at all. He's impressed me when I've seen him. I just think a player needs to do it for a longer spell before he's worth that much money. Citing under 21 records isn't going to impress anybody. If he were as good as that then I think he would've been on the scene sooner. If he's a late developer then more than one season will be required as proof. Kevin Phillips once scored 30 goals in a season.
