Benzema or Kane? Genuine question.

Which striker would you prefer at United?

Both would score 20+ goals if they would join United. If you're asking who you'd want in your team, it could be either one depending on the criteria you set out. If you're asking who the better player/striker is right now: Benzema without a shadow of a doubt.

Personally, I'd take Kane. 27 is still relatively young but it could be over in a couple of seasons, and you'd be in a similar position like you are now with RvP: a striker on huge wages with little sell-on value. Whereas with Kane, you could have yourself a quality striker up front for a decade if things go smooth. He's more than worth the gamble at this point.

Yeah you have to be a little skeptical with Kane since this is his first season putting up this kind of performance and it came out of nowhere. But, I will still take Kane. He is much younger and should only get better from here. Plus he gives us something different a true CF, who is great in the air and can hold the ball up. Benzema would provide us the same thing Rooney has brought us.

It's really not a laughable option

If Kane repeats what he did this season again he is going to seriously hot property

I think benzema is top quality. But maybe the gamble on Kane would be better, I have this feeling he will be Alan Shearer part 2

People dismiss British players too easily at times

My initial thought is "Benzema, no question", but I'm not sure.
The age difference swings it for me. Kane genuinely seems like a player that's got his head screwed on. Can't imagine him ever being completely useless & not at least being a player that's nuisance, tries really hard & gets at least 15 goals a year.

The question is whether 5-10 years of a good Harry Kane is better than the possibility of 3-5 years of a great Benzema.

Of course Benzema might be useless here & Kane might be a god. Any scout that could predict that correctly would be worth hundreds of millions. Maybe trillions...

Harry Kane easily. Came out of nowhere and banged 31 goals in his first full season, seems to have everything you would want in a striker.

When Benzema first burst onto the scene a lot of people thought he could have been Ballon'Dor material, he was fantastic at Lyon. But for me although he is still pretty good, he hasn't really fulfilled his potential.

Kevin Phillips scored 35 goals at some point.

To go with your point, I think people tend to overestimate the potential of youngsters. Even if they're ahead of their age-group, the chances are that most don't actually have the potential that people predict. Chances are that the gap with their average age-group will close as time goes on.
People seem to think "he's this good as a 19 year old, so imagine how good he'll be at 25", when it rarely ends up that way.

Benzema.

although i'd like us to go after kane too but Levy is just terrible to negotiate with. And he's petty.

Welbeck ---- troll answer

Rooney is a great example of this. After he scored that hat trick when we first got him I, and I presume everyone else, thought he'd be unplayable in a few years time.

I hope this isn't a slight on levy. He is clearly a master negotiator

Spurs have to live with losing their best players on a regular basis and he damn sure makes the most of it

I would hate to see us spend big on Kane. These two shouldn't be in the same discussion.

Did you expect him to score a hatrick every game? He has had a great career.

Of course not but I think we all thought we had something really special at that time. I'm not knocking him. Best English player for a long while but I think most people thought he would go on to a higher level than he has based on how good he was at that age. The post I replied to was about how a player's level at a certain age doesn't represent their future level. Some players get near their peak at a very young age.

Anyone who says kane should get a special token next to his name so we know in upcomming threads not to take these people serious

I don't think many people think Kane is actually a better player. He's 6 years younger. That's why this is a debate.

This all comes down to whether you think Kane is a one season wonder or not. Given that his performances this season have vastly exceeded anything he did whilst on loan, it's far from certain that he will be able to repeat the form he has shown. For the price Spurs would want, the risk seems too high, so I would opt for Benzema.

There were a lot of links but nothing solid, especially not that he 'rejected' us per se.

Maybe it's just me, but choosing someone over someone else isn't always as deep as a rejection. But I can see why that plays on people's minds. But come on, it was 6 years ago.
Not to mention half on here saying Kane because Benzema "rejected" us will cream themselves of Bale came to us although he has also rejected us just a year back.

Kane. This kids been raved about for years. He could be our CF for the next decade.
Say what? From what I have read and heard, he was just a decent youngster and not someone quoted as the next coming of Christ.

Benzema is better, Kane has the future ahead of him. I actually think Benzema will be easier to sign especially with our history with Tottenham

Benzema is a better player but I would pick Kane.
a) he is younger
b) he is hungrier
c) Benzema has never been a great goalscorer
d) I fear we could get Another AdM or Falcao situation with Benzema

Where is the white the text for the bold part?

Both represent a risk. Kane has just 1 great season under his belt. Its not his fault since he's 21 however that's how things are. He will also cost around the 40-50m mark.

Benzema on the other hand will cost less but has no resale value and will probably recoup much of the difference in terms of salary. He had never played in the EPL and had never shown any intention of doing so. He will also come for all the wrong reasons and that will have an impact on his attitude and chances of settling down. We've seen that well enough with the likes of Di Maria, Falcao, JSV and Shevcenko on that regard. Not to forget that the French man will never accept the bench so it would mean moving Rooney in CM. Also by 2019 we will have to start thinking of revamping the forward line as both Benzema and Rooney are of the same age.

Ideally we would bring a talented young striker on a decent fee and whose ready to sit on the bench. I can't understand why we have tried to sign Lazzarette or Vietto. Having said that Id rather see us sign Harry Kane than Benzema.

Benzema, it's not even remotely close. Kane has had one good season, Benzema is a proper world class striker who'd improve any team bar Barcelona.

How is been "English" an advantage in football?

Its an advantage when playing in the EPL. Less risk of fecking off to Spain + more used to the EPL football which is unique for all the wrong reasons.

Benzema - Undoubtedly the better player, better fit for the team and a consistent performer. Good enough for 4-5 seasons.

Kane - He's been a standout player for Spurs. But, I would like to wait and see one more season from him. He's good, but I would rather pay the top dollar for consistently brilliant at this point. Too much at stake for us to take leaps of faith with our transfer market prospects.

I don't know why, but i see abit of crouch in Kane. I wouldn't take him based on one season. Would like to see his all round game develop even more. He gets more opportunites to score at Spurs as teams don't tend to sit back against them as they do United. But he has looked quality in a fair few games - such as that chelsea game. Im just not sure he's World class. Too hard to tell right now.

Buy Benzema now, Kane in 2 seasons if he's still doing it. Realistically Kane would cost £50m minimum anyway dealing with Levy. Benz would not.

Kane for me..young and hungry and will be improving, rather than Benzema who will be past-it in a few years time.

I doubt Kane cam reproduce last season's form. Benzema has been consistently class for quite some time now. No contest for me. Benz

I fail to see why people can't see this as a genuine question. Yes Benzema is a better player but Kane is much younger. Sometimes a risk on a young player pays off.

When we signed Ronaldo there were better players out there but we signed him due to potential and it paid off massively.

Benzema is a lot better at the moment but may also take a while to adapt to the league. Personally I'd be happy with either of them

The Benzema chant that the Lyon fans used to sing (the one to the tune of Dr Beat) is one of my all time favourites. So I'm going for him.

The far better player - Benzema.

If Kane keeps this form up for another 2 or 3 seasons then it might be a fair question.
