Well you clearly did read my original post as you replied to it, unless you reply to posts without even reading them! :annoyed: And ever since your replies have just got worse. Move on lad.
Think I will, nothing to be gained here :nervous:

Greenwood had done far more at an earlier age, as had Rooney. Still awaiting an expert review on him, seems a lot of hype and bluff at the moment,

By 20, FDJ had played 11 games for Ajax while Danny Welbeck had played 63 & Januzaj 56 for United, Pato about 100 games for Milan & Internacianol and Bojan Krkic about 150 games for Barca.

You’re talking about two of the best attacking talents United ever had as teenagers. There’s far more examples of strikers taking well into their twenties to develop. Lewandowski was playing in Poland at 22 for example.

There’s been plenty of reviews on him in this thread alone from people that have watched him. He’s raw and despite his YouTube complications, his touch and link up play definitely needs work. Especially for the national team, games have passed him by, but it’s not uncommon for a striker of a smaller team to have that problem.

It’s not a cert that he’s worth the price at all but unfortunately, our scouts refused him at €3 million. There’s no doubt it’s an inflated price and a risk.

Yeah, many child prodigies find things harder later for different reasons and people feel them not fulfilling their potentials. The reality is that the topmost level of elites are just difficult to reach and not necessarily based on how early they start.

The issue is survivorship bias among fans who look at great players who had also been great as teenagers and then compare current teenagers with their relative performance. What they miss is the number of teenagers who start destined for greatness and go nowhere (95% including Robinho, Pato, Dele Alli etc) while missing others who had been average as teenagers who have gone on to achieve great things (pretty much 80% of best players in the world).

Fortunately for him.

Greenwood and Rooney were exceptional talents. Based on that, we should not buy any young player who's not on the same level as them

That's £40m. For someone who hasn't even had a big season yet, I think it's a very, very strong price that RB will probably be forced to consider. They might think they can get more after he's had a full season, but it's a gamble on their end. They'll know better than anyone, though, I suppose.

Would be good to add some depth! Seems to have come out of nowhere as a player teams are interested in.

Hope he’s that hidden gem more than a panicky last minute buy.

If they turn that down they’re serious about keeping him
Even if they keep him for another year they aren't going to get any offers better than that(if that above tweet is reliable). It easily smashes their record transfer sale.

Interestingly while people often use Rooney as a positive example, it's not mentioned enough that his career at the top ended way sooner than usual. He was a precocious talent but also an early retiree

Reckon we might get this kid, mental fee for a kid, but it's one of those that 5 years down the line could be a bargain.

At 19, he will continue to improve. I just watched his game versus Liverpool, I can see the potential of his build up play and getting to good position. With ETH coaching, he can really take it up a level or 2. I don't trust Martial and Ronaldo will leave and since there isn't many striker in the market, I think it is a risk we shall take. Even if this fail, I think we can sell him for half of the transfer fee that we pay. If it is successfully, he will be here for a long long time. It would really justify the fee that we pay.

If he has a superb season and PSG/Real Madrid both want him, they will absolutely be able to get more unless there's a release clause we've just met. He's on three years left right now and hasn't done anything massively notable outside of having a great pre-season over the past week or two. If he then had a Haaland-esque season he'd absolutely go for more than £40m with two years left and at least two extremely rich clubs in a bidding war.

Now, whether that actually happens is a HUGE gamble for sure.

This is a Martial-style purchase more than a Rooney-style purchase.

You typed this a few days ago without submitting it didn’t you?

nah, I actually watched the game to see what he was like and he defo has a presence on the pitch. Looks quick and skilful, powerful a little bit like haaland. He could potentially be a monster and in this current market you just got to get there before a breakout season doubles his worth. Could easily happen with this guy.

Depends how he does I guess, and how many clubs need a striker next year. I could see them getting a similar fee, depends if the player wants to push for a move I think.

48 m wow !! Would rather take Toney or any proven strikers at that price.

I'm all for signing potentials but that's not what we want now. We need a forward to come in and start doing the job immediately.

If they agree to that, £40m is not a bad price for a very promising young striker.

Which proven striker are you getting for £40m? Chelsea just signed a rotational left back for £52m.

Agree on your general point but PSG just got Ekitike and Bayern got Tel so I think they are out of the race. Can see both Barca and Real Madrid looking for new strikers in a year or two though, especially since both Lewa and Benzema are getting on a bit.

Still I can't see them bidding any higher than this. Salzburg sold Adeyemi who was far more proven for much lesser amount. Now if Sesko absolutely bombs this year they will miss out on this transfer fee. It's a gamble for them.

A bit concerning that he didn’t seem to be on RRs radar during his time here, or at least it wasn’t mentioned I don’t think.
Seems like a textbook signing for him coming from an RB club.

Either way, I am on board for no other reason than I can’t see a front 3 of Martial, Rashford and Sancho being enough. Ronny should be a sub under ETH

He may well have been. It’s been reported today that we turned down the opportunity to sign him for 2.5m not long ago.

Bayern got Mane for 35m and Barca got Lewandowski for 40m
Both with 1 year left on their contract and refusing to sign a new one. Who’s available on the market we can buy right now for £40m who’s proven? Genuine question.

So you’re going to provide zero context? Both players were in the last years of their contract hence the price. If they had 2 years left the price would have doubled at the very least.

I don’t think we’re getting Ivan Toney for any less than we pay for Sesko. Wan Bissaka cost us 50m.

He’s young but at the very least he offers us something different. 40m to us isn’t a lot in the grand scheme of things, but when buying from the PL it gets you bugger all.

I imagine that Icardi or Ben Yedder would be available at that price.

A huge part was his lifestyle I guess, the other part an earlier burn out.
