Ben Shapiro

People find the machine-gun delivery intimidating/impressive, I guess, and mistakenly assume what he's saying is smart.

He's the physical manifestation of the Gish gallop, basically. He'll throw so much at you that a less experienced or knowledgeable debater will be overwhelmed and unable to respond, which to Ben and his fans means he won. So people end up thinking that he's intelligent and a good debater, when he's honestly neither. This is evident when he actually ends up debating someone who is prepared for his bullshit, and it never ends well.

Apropos nothing, here's my favourite Ben Shapiro clip.

I don't even have to click on the link to know it's going to be the time big brain Shapiro thought that Aquaman was going to establish a nice property portfolio. The worst part is it's not even an off-the-cuff comment.

Yep and yep. It's so stupid it's hardly even worth typing up a response, because it's probably immediately obvious to anyone who isn't a moron that it would be somewhat of an issue.

I don’t even know who this guy is but I already hate him and his stupid voice after listening to a couple of those clips.

Oh boy, have I got a treat for you guys. I've been shilling for the Behind the Bastards podcast a few times on the Caf (it's great). They needed a break from the usual depressing stuff, so they're currently three episodes into a partial live read of Ben Shapiro's thriller novel (IT'S REAL IT REALLY EXISTS). I think it's genuinely possible that he's the worst writer on the planet.

Disclaimer: it's possible I've talked about this before, but they put out a new episode this week which reminded me about it.

Cheers bro, I'll listen on my daily drive.

He has one of those faces that when you see you instantly know exactly what kind of person he is. Matches his voice perfectly, as well.

That's true, but in this instance he doesn't even do that. He's simply reading from his script, ready made, and he's failing. He can't even speak prepared sentences, he's a moron. When young teenagers do an oral presentation at school where they get stuff basically right but they just read from their notes they get a C at best, Shapiro can't say the words right and what he's trying to say is moronic.

A 15 year old would fail his test, this guy is getting millions.

I hoped it was the aqua man clip before I clicked on it. So good

Duane Gish could argue me into Christianity. Ben Shapiro is nowhere near his league if you ask me.

Thats hilarious. Also, remember the time he called Andrew Neil a leftie?

I'm not a fan of him, but it'd be nice to see people not just claim he must be stupid because you don't agree with him. He's clearly a smart guy, doesn't mean what he says you have to agree with!
He's found a way to make a good living not really being good at anything so that's kinda smart I suppose.

I was about to bring this up. Absolutely brilliant. He had no one to attack and ended up beating himself up.

in what fields/areas of discussion is he actually "smart" in? His entire body of work is either talking to people that agree with him on a political ideology perspective and its talking points, "debating" people and either saying nothing of substance or acting like an irritated man-child, or saying absurd things like selling houses in flood zones.

I don't listen to enough of him to comment because I'm not a fan of his style. From my point of view though he aint stupid that's for sure. I probably agree with some of his points, he leans towards Jordan Peterson's outlook on many things but Shapiro is far too conservative for me.

I don't agree he only debates people who agree with his views, look up youtube, loads of his stuff is debating people who disagree with him.

He probably is reasonably smart and no doubt he's good at debating ill-prepared people.

However he's a perfect example of the Dunning-Kruger effect. He knows a little bit about a wide range of subjects and that gives him a misguided confidence. Put him up against an expert and he's quickly made to look like a moron.

The same can be said about the Jordan Peterson who infamously claimed to be an evolutionary biologist with no credentials to show for it. Watch a response to his lobster theory from an actual evolutionary biologist and hes quickly made to look a fraud.

Empathy is a standard emotion for a normal human being. He is basically saying politicians should be sociopaths.

No, that's not what he's saying. He's saying something similar to people tend to empathise with other like minded people and that's perhaps not always a good thing in politics. One might argue, politicians, right or left, should serve society as a whole, both right and left.

I'm a big fan of Jordan Peterson, the ideas he expresses on many things I agree with. He's not perfect that's for sure, but people who disagree with his opinion on things like gender equality quickly focus on anything he's got wrong and use it to discount all of his opinions.

i'm not saying he only debates people that agree with him. I'm saying his "body of work" is:

1. Running a media outfit that solely caters to a worldview that inherently does not challenge his own political ideology
2. Debates people. Debating people has become the new form of vapid internet culture. What is witnessed in a Shapiro "debate" has nothing to do with smarts, intelligence, understanding of topics. He participates in entertainment debating, basically shapiro is to debating what jersey shore was to "reality tv".
3. Shapiro has no ability to actually form a coherent argument to questions that fundamentally challenge his political ideology. Shapiro's responses to climate change over the years has ranged from outright denial, it's not a big problem, conspiracy theories about the motives of scientists and most famously of all the "sell your house" meme. Or, act's like an irritated man-child. You will see 1000 videos of Shapiro "DESTROYING GRETA THUNBERG", i'm yet to see "SHAPIRO DESTROYS Michael Oppenheimer, the Albert G. Milbank Professor of Geosciences and International Affairs at the Woodrow Wilson School and the Department of Geosciences at Princeton University,"

Could you actually imagine what a conversation between a world renowned climate scientist and Shaprio would be like? Could you imagine what a conversation between someone like a Paul Krugman and shapiro would be like on the topics of economics? Ok, Shapiro can perform for a crowd, i don't really want that to be taken seriously in a policy discussion, i don't want that to be seen as "informing the citizenry", entertainment factor for your own political base.....whatever go right ahead.

There's 2 types of right wing people, stupid ones and evil ones. The evil ones rally the stupid ones to profit from them. Ben is the 2nd type I'd say.

What's stupid in this world is debatable. Don't you think?

So half of the population are either stupid or evil and they're all of the people on the right?

I know this forum is incredibly left wing but ffs
