Ben Pearson

I'd be over the moon if Pearson took Fletcher's spot in the first team squad, even if it just meant a few late sub appearances initially, whilst building up to something more substantial.

The only other reason I can think of for us not to extend his loan at Barnsley is if any Championship clubs have shown an interest in loaning him, and we prefer him to play at a higher level.!He's doing really well there and surely getting games, even in League One, is more beneficial than a game here and there for the U21s.

Bet all of his family went to the Oldham game. My Mum's side of the family are from Oldham (Dad's side from Manchester) so I think that's partly why I have a soft spot for Pearson, (as well as his playing style).

According to Wikipedia, that's the anniversary of when Ferdowsi completed his epic poem Shāhnāmeh in 1010. Could have something to do with that.

Barnsley assistant Chris Hutchings told BBC Radio Sheffield: "Ben's a very good player and I think he has proved that.

"It's no secret that we are big admirers of him and I'm sure there are many other clubs that are the same."

Thought the mascot next to Rooney was young Ben just then!

Good that he only extended to March really, as you just never know what's going to happen with a new manager, how he might want to play the game and who he might want to play with.

Loans comes up tomorrow but he has said he wants to stay and they want him to stay. Apparently some Championship clubs are after him though. I'd rather he stayed at Barnsley. The fans seem to love him and he has struck up a great partnership with their own young lad Scowen.

I was actually checking up on him a couple of days back. Seems to be starting more or less every game for them. Great stuff. Their fans also seem to adore him.

Hopefully he'll stay there for the rest of the season. It would naturally be nice to see him having a few months in the Championship, but it's rare for us to have a good loan spell so may as well let it continue!

My father supports a team in league 1 as well as United, hes a big fan of Pearson from watching the youth, he actually saw him play against his league 1 side live a week or so ago, mentioning he did well, defended and passed the ball well, made Barnsleys goal with a good shot, rebounded for a tap in, he noted he seems popular with their fans, but also said he seems to be playing without as much freedom as he had in our reserves, doing a very basic defensive job so to speak, but doing it well.
Just to letting you all know some 3rd hand info.

Hopefully we get to see him on the tour this summer, exactly the type of player I want to see in the first team. Would be nice to see him get Barnsley promoted too, so if we want we can send him back for some Champo experience.

Just seen this on the Barnsley forum too.
He's magic, you knooowwwww
Cannot believe he's not Scholes.

Great news! Would love it if we would give him a chance next season as the third choice holding midfielder behind Carrick and Blind.

I believe his manager said he's the first name on the team sheet too. He's clearly impressed whilst at Barnsley.

He certainly doing a good job there. I can't wait for him to get a chance here, exactly the type of play we need too. Feisty little fecker who will physically challenge anyone and is great with the ball too.

I read on their forum the other week about him picking up a few yellows for bitching to the ref and I instantly thought 'classic Ben.'

I really hope he is more than third choice - I mean we really won't win league with Blind and Carrick as first options for holding midfielders, so I hope we finally buy some top quality DM.

And if Ben can step up and do something like Coquelin than I will be really glad for him. That's an example of how some players can peak later and become quality players, Ryan Mason is a good example too and of course Darren Fletcher. Person has got time, hope he's given proper chance.

He has a good potential, certainly bigger than Blind and would be ideal to what we need now..

Great news. Hopefully has a strong finish to the season and puts his name in the hat for the pre-season tour.

Those megs, coupled with his hair, makes me really want him to make the step up.
