Being realistic

It's completely insane to suggest someone needs eyes in the back of their head to see someone in the direction of the person they're tackling. Especially when, you know... that's exactly where your centerback is supposed to be and basically always is.
Yeah refer back to the picture you posted, and then watch the video of the incident, at literally no point after Zaha picked up possession can Casemiro see Varane.

Apart from when they're literally talking to each other during the whole thing

Yeah you've either never kicked a football in your life or you're on a WUM.
There's nothing meaningful in this post, if you have nothing but a silly insult then it's best not to reply.

You are trying to explain that Casemiro has eyes in the side and back of his head to know exactly where Varane is both in the screenshot you have used and immediately afterwards when he engages Zaha.

If you genuinely believe that then you have either never kicked a football in your life or you're a WUM, that's not an insult it's pretty clear to anyone with a basic understanding of the human body.

Whilst I’m not suggesting EtH is above any sort of criticism I do feel many here seem to have been swept away by of success this season and it’s become more of a curse than a blessing to the manager.

United are third in the league, have won the league cup, are in an FA cup semi final and the quarters of European competition. Compared to last season we are doing extremely well.

To add to this we are missing a number of players for extended periods. Casemiro, Eriksen and Martial to name three.

By comparison how do we feel City would be faring without Rodri, KdB and Haaland or Arsenal without Partey, Odegaard and Jesus? Not one at a time, but all out together for prolonged periods?

I’m genuinely interested to know if we feel we are all guilty of having lost some perspective lately even more so when you consider Ten Hag has been at the club only 8 months. Not only that he was restricted heavily in January due to the ownership issues whilst every rival spent large sums of money to strengthen.

Being realistic, we're in a Top 4 battle and could still finish the season with no CL for next Season. That would be a disaster. As you say we've got a period coming up without our Midfield Anchor like it or not we're a completely different animal without him in the side. It's been a very good season for us so far minus a couple of ridiculous away results but with the fixtures about to start coming at us thick and fast again we have to be ready. Having Eriksen back will be a shot in the arm though.

Have to agree with @Dion

Not only did he know Varane was there (he ran to cover from a central position and he has to know the CB is there unless he has terrible spatial awareness), but his poor angle and overcommitment are what directly led to the bad foul.

Christ alive. The is why screenshots, unless for something very specific like offside, are not indicative of anything in a live moving environment as they remove all context. In that very specific moment, yes. but roll the clip on for literally a split second and look at the directions both players are moving in, the last thing he could possibly see of Varane was Varane starting to back away towards the centre. The argument was about allowing Zaha to run freely into the box and he clearly would not have known specifically where Varane was as as soon as he moved towards Zaha. As soon as Zaha skipped past him it became a foul he had to make, and by extension a yellow he had to take. You don't allow the oppositions best player a free run into the penalty area, certainly not with 10 minutes to go when you're 1-0 up.

I'm not basing it off screenshots, but the video. Look at where Casemiro is coming from, and the angle he takes before Zaha makes his first move. He would have moved directly to cut him off from the penalty area. Furthermore, even if doesn't see Varane start backpedaling (which I agree he didn't see) before that Varane is looking directly at the player and tracking him. If he truly thinks he has no cover, he doesn't take that initial angle unless he has absurdly poor awareness (and we can agree he doesn't). He just made a silly, overaggressive challenge and it happens.

Classic Caf at its best. A thread about having perspective and reviewing our season so far and the last one and a half pages consist of a debate about whether Casemiro saw Varane in a situation in a match.

Sorry but this is just repeating nonsense insults.

Yeah people love to jump into a discussion midway through and act like the rest of it never happened. The screenshot is illustrating a point, not the basis of an entire argument.

For me it's not about the trophy win, or the fact we are still in all competitions , albeit we were never winning the league this season.

For me, it's the team look like a team now. The messages from the coaches are clearly being taken on board by the players, and there is definite pattern to our play now.

You can see the difference in the warm up before the game. Under Ole and Rangnick they just used to stand in circles with two in the middle and there was no intensity to it. This group you have defenders defending, attackers shooting, left foot, right.foot. McLaren gets hold of them in the drills, and it just feels better prepared under Ten Hag.
