Too many posters must play like Maradona I swear, that's if they play football at all. Sometimes you just have those games where nothing comes off, and the more you think about how shit your last cross was, the more likely your next one will be too. I've experienced this and I can imagine playing in front of 75,000 people after being plucked from obscurity doesn't help in this aspect, especially when you can hear all of them groaning at each failed attempt.

Couldn't agree more. He's not to blame really, just think he should be given more of a chance to blend with the team rather than give him this trial by fire so early. Think SAF is taking a gamble hoping that he'll shine immediately and might do his confidence good, but considering what happened last game, it might backfire the other way.
Hope he gets his chances in the FA/Carling cups and not in the league/europe until he can prove himself more consistently.

I think what people have to bare in mind is the circumstances of when he came in to the game on Saturday, with Hargreaves getting injured after 4 minutes and Bebe having to come on after 9 or so, he would have had no time to prepare mentally. If he had been playing from the start and known he was going to start in due time then it would have been different but to be drafted in unexpectedly after 5-10 mins when you know you weren't picked to start would have added to his anxiety - especially after a few hairy moments to begin with.

I was just thinking the same thing. He was probably expecting to spend 80 minutes on the bench, and to get a cameo if the game was wrapped up at the end.

I reckon he panicked a bit when he came on, and it only got worse when the crossing went wrong. He probably got inside his own head so much that every time he lined up to hit a cross he was completely over-thinking it. Imagine how much you'd fall apart if you were unexpectedly thrown on at Old Trafford for the remaining 81 minutes of a match and you messed up the opportunity.

What's interesting was seeing Rafael translate to Babe -- meaning his English is pretty good and his body language -- looked like a coach in the making!

Well he's obviously got great man management skills if he was able to coax a performance out of Bebe of such excellence.

Can choose to look at the encouraging signs in that he was able to get into good crossing positions quite often and that normally when he got the ball, he didn't give it away. If it wasn't on, he'd work the defender or pass it on.

Those are very good attributes to build on. Supposedly a good striker of the ball with either foot, so once he gets his "feel" a bit more, should be able to at least do better with his crossing.

The crosses were abysmal but, I was encouraged outside of that.

Has everyone forgot that after a bad cross the players didnt say anything to him - someone needed to speak to him on the pitch but with the language barrier he was left to his own devices. A choice few words from an experienced head at the right time can go far.

It's a bit like when I go out to bat and I have an iexperienced batsmen with me in a pressure situation you need to coach them through - if you don't how will they learn other than by sinking or swimming.

Lots of encouraging signs whilst he's been with us. His crossing was fine in the other games he's played for us so Saturday was probably just a blip more than anything else. Bit of tiredness, nerves etc which should dissipate as he gains experience.

2 goals in 200 mins is not bad going either.

What would they say to him?

"How's about you keep your next cross about... say... 80 feet lower down? That should do it... yeah... about head height would be ideal..."

People are making far too big a deal about a few cocked up crosses. He knows what he did wrong. The nerves got to him and he made a bollocks of some good crossing opportunities. No big deal. It was a good learning experience for him and he deserves credit for never hiding, despite some horrible moments. His overall performance - crossing aside - was actually fairly decent, all things considered.

I think it was obvious to him his crosses were overhit but in your post and as I mentioned in mine - nerves could have got to him - a few words telling him to calm down, relax etc could go far.

Jesus wept. The one thing he did show yesterday was mental strength.

As an aside, did you catch Patrice Evra's debut?

Don't bother Pogue.

If a poster is willing to make their mind up on a player, after an absolute handful of performances, and under 3 hours of total football, I reckon that person isn't going to let their opinion be persuaded otherwise.

It's an all-new low on here.

It just sort of adds to the nightmare situation for him I guess. Thrown on at Old Trafford, crossing gone to shit and you can't even understand your teammates for them to give you a few supportive words.

He needs polishing for a few years.

- never really been coached
- career started late
- new league and country.

"always", eh?

You're a frigging weirdo...

No, you are the weird one.

I saw your thread about Modric, praising him in the central midfield position. You constantly said he was not trusted here, better out wide etc last season, Brwned too.

Bebe cannot cross the ball very well, something I said earlier in this thread, where I got attacked for giving him a 5/10 for crossing. Switch him to the left, where he can come inside and shoot and take on the defenders. He is not a wide right player, because his crossing technique is all wrong.

He might make it he might not. That is all that can be said about Bebe at the moment.

He looks like a good but very very raw player. I personally don't think we'll see the best of him for at least 2-3 seasons.

Ive watched the games he has played in and watching that video makes me think that his first touch isnt actually that good, dont know why people think its excellent.
Excellent is definitely going overboard. But he has shown some very nice first touches, including bringing down high balls very well; while other times his touch has been too heavy and has let it run away from him.

Inconsistent, but that's all you can expect at this stage. The important thing is he's shown he can have a good first touch, so you'd expect that to become much more consistent with further training and experience.

stick watching Villa reserves mate

Bebe clearly has talent. The weaknesses that have been outlined by the master scouts on here and throughout the media could quite easily be put down to anxiousness, over-thinking and inexperience.

The truth is that we simply have little idea what his weaknesses are yet. He looks clumsy in his play at times because he's obviously nervous as feck, which has leaked into his ball striking ability and touch. Even Rooney's touch looks fairly off when he's not confident in what he's doing.

Yep, but you forget to put in the arguments that his tiny window for improvement, i.e. from fetus to embryo, has long passed, and there's no chance in hell he can learn how to cross, ever.
