He said only a few weeks ago that they were talking.... pinch salt..

If we aren't pushing for Mourinho, then we must be in for another top manager. Maybe, Pochettino or Simeone. I'm convinced Giggs and LVG won't be at the club next season.

Pochettino isn't a top manager, yet. He could win the title this season with Spurs, and it still wouldn't make him one. Simeone isn't going to the play the sort of football most on here want either.

Van Gaal is already well into lame duck territory so, if there was an agreement with Mourinho, there would be no real reason to keep it quiet. And there obviously is no agreement in place judging by all these plants from his media friends so you have to conclude United are still considering other options. Given the recent quality of decision making at Old Trafford, I hold little hope that alternative will be of a Simeone type calibre. At best it would be Pocchetino (promising but still unproven in the business of actually winning stuff) and, at the other end of the spectrum, our inspiring assistant manager.

Whether those guys are top managers is another discussion but I won't be surprised if they are ahead of Mourinho on the list.

Well, I didn't think we'd appoint him anyway, sadly, but if we've actually spoken with him and not agreed anything, when Van Gaal is still manager then that's even worse....

I think he should start in the summer so that he can get some actual footballers with talent to manage.

It would be nice to hear it a mounted now though.

Castles only reported yesterday was it? that Mouinho's speaking to Inter and "indecisive United risk losing out", now it's written a day after Mourinho doesn't want the Inter job by his own pen, with so many here claiming Mendez is feeding Castles prior... it doesn't make sense, so how should we take anything he writes on the subject seriously?

it doesn't even take "actual football players" to beat the last two teams we lost to, nevermind everything that happened before that.

Ballbag is insisting we arent even in contact with him.

I know he is a bit of a joke, but that would be shocking if we really aren't considering sacking lvg

He's not insisting we're not in contact, (unless I missed that tweet) what he's insisted on is that nothing is signed yet, they are two different things.

I have a feeling Mourinho isn't our first or second choice.
We're probably still trying to convince Guardiola and Ancelotti to join us, sounds like Woody that does.

Funny how Mourinho was very quick to quash rumours about Inter, yet has said feck all about him apparently being the next United manager.

Indeed.
Remember Moyes was ahead of Mourinho in the list, a few years ago.
Nothing would surprise me, of course.
The board hire managers who can't win. Then once they arrive and don't win, they act surprised.

I watched the interview with Moyes recently and it was insightful. He was absolutely 100% assured that he could take his time when rebuilding and at no stage was he told that if results don't improve, his job would be on the line.
If you want to win trophies, hire Jose, Guardiloa, Ancelotti, even Allegri - these guys have a proven (recent) track record of winning trophies.
If however, you want us to finish upper-mid table, then Moyes (and similar managers should be hired).
The board bring in a mid-table manager and except him to turn into a winning manager overnight.
And now maybe Giggs could be hired - and he has no track record or experience.

For me, only Jose can save us next season. And if he can't do it, then I am at a complete loss. We'd have gone from Moyes (mid-table) to LVG (great manager in the past), to Jose (proven, recent winner).

Ballague was saying there was contact but no agreememt at one point. Now all of a sudden there is no contact either. He is playing a guessing game.

I'd still be very, very surprised if Mourinho isn't in charge next season. The only question for me is whether LVG makes it through the whole season, or if he gets the bullet moyes style when top 4 is mathematically over.

Does anybody know if this guy is reliable?

Reading that, I kind of get the feeling it might not be too far off. He mentions the 'division' in the United hierarchy on who to hire, and this is the reason LVG is continuing - this is what I've been thinking. Otherwise it's not logical that the club goes on like this with all this bad publicity. Those marketing men in charge will be cringing with how things are going.

United need to sort out the 'division' and for once I hope Mendes uses his 'dark arts' to influence Woody.

5 tags from that tweet in minutes. The need for Louis to be gone is real on the Caf

If they want Mourinho and he's willing to come in now, I don't see why they should wait for top four to be mathematically over. It's not like they would have to pay LVG a lot of money. Surely it's more damaging to just limp on? I dunno what to think tbh.

If Woodward is contacting Mourinho just because of yesterday's result, then he's demented
"Jorge? We're going ahead with it. Yep, Midgetland was the last straw. I didn't either, I'm guessing it's like Legoland."

Louis van Gaal has lost the faith of several senior #mufc players, with Mourinho being his preferred replacement. [guardian]
Guardian is generally the most reliable newspaper but seems like a briefing with the Mirror, MEN and now the Guardian reporting it.

Beginning to think verbal agreement was in place for summer, but it is at crisis point now. Van Gaal was not supposed to do this poorly.

What's the deal with Castles and Mendes again? How come Castles ended up as a recognized mouthpiece for Mendes and his clients (Maureen most noteably, of course)?

Thouroughly agree, but it's the only reason I can think of that he's still here. Maybe it's clutching at straws...who can tell what's going on at this circus.

Click bait article.

"M.E.N. Sport understands United touched base with Mendes to ascertain whether Mourinho is seriously considering a return to management at Internazionale."
