Would you be happy to see Jose Mourinho become next United manager?

Sky used to be held in hifh regard on here but they have been really left behind the times by the rise of social media.

"If he leaves" - because there's no way he's getting sacked, so leaving would be the only way we'd get Mourinho....

Can't wait to hear Skysports' breaking news this weekend that United will win FA Cup if Crystal Palace loses.

If LvG is still here by June we'll have half the fan base on suicide watch, I just don't want to think about it. It'll be awful, just awful. Do the right thing and sack him, Ed. He's out of his depth here but he's made some good progress on the rebuilding job, it's time to hand the reins over. Woody must know it'll be his head the fans'll be calling for next if LvG stays.

It would appear James Cooper didn't get the memo, Sky are now focusing on Jose coming rather than LvG staying (haven't checked but staying tweet apparently deleted).

Here are some reasons why United will probably stick with van Gaal. Hopefully I'll jinx it:

1 The upheaval involved in appointing new staff.
2 The expensive of such an upheaval, including payoffs to those dismissed.
3 The worry over Giggs leaving (the board will believe this is bad PR).
4 The worry over van Gaal, Giggs and others publicly slating the board.
5 The negative reflection towards Woodward's decision-making post-SAF.
6 The board's - and others' - ambiguous feeling about José being United boss.
7 The friendship between van Gaal and Woodward.
8 Van Gaal's expedient excuses for underperformance which nevertheless might be believed by Woodward & co.
9 Van Gaal's guilt-trip: that he wasn't given the right players/the players aren't up to scratch/the media assassination campaign etc etc.
10 The supposed 'near miss' ("5th/6th isn't far from 4th"); a Cup win supposedly heralding a new age of success under LVG.
11 Van Gaal's 'understanding' that he'd be given 3 years to succeed ("It's a process").
12 The club would rather pretend things are ok than take difficult decisions in order to actually make things ok.
13 The club's policy is that public relations only truly matter when it comes to sponsorship, not when the fans are discontent.
14 The club's amateurish and timid laissez-faire approach to major decision-making.
15 The complacent belief that revenues and attendances will remain large despite little footballing success.

There's more, surely; a lot more, sadly, than there are reasons why United will dismiss LVG. I suspect that - incredibly - the board would view such a dismissal as a risk. Fingers crossed that I'm utterly wrong and that the club is more professional and bold than I thought.

Pretty big news here that Manchester United will indeed have just the one manager next season whoever that may be.

Pretty unimaginative on the part of the club. Think Liverpool did the whole joint manager business and let's face it if we're transforming into any club its...

:(

A perfectly clear coded message - an announcement without making an announcement. Mourinho will appointed but no official decision has yet been taken to sack Van Gaal. That will be done at some point next week.

It's all over for Van Gaal bar the shouting.

In the grand scheme, the old cnut is going in a year anyway, and there's no real stand out managers likely to be available...it's rank bad management if they let a top level manager slip through their fingers, for a guy who only really came to pad out his retirement fund, before riding off into the Portuguese sunset next season anyway...

I couldn't care less where this is coming from but please, please let there be somthing in it and Mourinho is coming in......

Sounds like the club is just trying to force LVG to retire, save face from sacking him - did think this morning that the DDG stories were leaked our end to put the pressure on.
Or, perhaps, this is the beginning of the spinning to say it was Van Gaal's choice to walk away? Think that story would suit everyone.

Still reckon Mourinho is coming. After the FA Cup is when the real games start.

Nothing actually wrong with Sky's tweets - they are saying that LVG will probably stay but if he leaves then Jose will take over. It's not that hard to understand.

They have deleted the 'if' he stays one though and no mention of it on their website.

Problem is it 2 separate journos.

It's a bit strange if we said Jose will take over if Van Gaal leaves. Surely the Board know his intentions and if he were staying there would be no need to mention Mourinho at all.

I'm convinced now it's all over for Van Gaal.

2 Sky correspondents and neither have a single source at United.

Literally just calling up the press department and asking for a statement.

Need mourinho chants and a banners against LvG today.

Oh and BTW

Good, the optimist in me hopes that it means they have new information hinting that Mourinho is more likely to be joining than LvG staying.

Pretty depressing that the FA cup has become a sideshow to the ongoing speculation about LvG/Mourinho. We're just stuck in no man's land right now.

If this tweet holds any weight then the board are giving LVG a chance to walk away with pride. He will say he's doing the club and fans a favour by walking away from a year's salary. He will point out that he has built a young promising squad, the club is bringing in record breaking revenue, and he is handing over the reigns to a world class manager to finish the job he started. LVG deserves to be sacked but I am pretty certain this is how it will all go down.

That photo reminds me more of this.

If LVG stays especially with Mourinho is currently available, I would like to question our club itself. Moyes got sacked because we failed to get top 4. This should be applied to LVG as well.
