We're certainly no worse than last year's bottom feeding Leicester side. Just goes to show what a new manager with a fresh perspective can do.

But still, Leicester is a one off and Ranieri isn't even a top manager.

So was Porto and Mourinho was considered as a young upstart manager rather than the world beater he's known as today. More importantly, he's repeatedly demonstrated an aptitude for replicating success and trophies wherever he's managed.

Champions League qualification in the first season - same as any manager - with the view to push on for the title the next season IMO. The way the league is we might be able to push for the title next season as the league is crazy and Pep will likely need time to settle and Klopp might not get it right in his first summer, but realistically a Champions League place would do under a new manager making the club his own.

Porto had won the UEFA Cup in 2003, they weren't an average team.
He was then hand-picked in late January 2002 by Porto to replace Octávio Machado. At this time, Porto was in fifth place in the Liga (behind Sporting, Boavista, Leiria and Benfica), had been eliminated from the Portuguese Cup and was in last place in their UEFA Champions League second group stage. Mourinho guided the team to third place that year after a strong 15-game run (W–D–L: 11–2–2) and gave the promise of "making Porto champions next year."

He quickly identified several key players whom he saw as the backbone of what he believed would be a perfect Porto team: Vítor Baía, Ricardo Carvalho, Costinha, Deco, Dmitri Alenichev, and Hélder Postiga. He recalled captain Jorge Costa after a six-month loan to Charlton Athletic. The signings from other clubs included Nuno Valente and Derlei from União de Leiria; Paulo Ferreira from Vitória de Setúbal; Pedro Emanuel from Boavista; and Edgaras Jankauskas and Maniche, who both had been out of contract at Benfica.

Not sure how you are saying Mourinho took over a settled side?

I know, what I don't understand is why he is using Mourinho's achievement against him.

I'm not using it against him, it's just to show that Porto had the team to do something great.

He did well at Porto, but I still think the task here is much bigger, it's simply easier to get things sorted with Porto in a league were it's generally only Benfica who can compete with them. Anyway as I said, when he's appointed I'm not gonna be over the moon until I see results on the pitch.

if we gonna be fair... foxes had this incredible form before Pearson even left.
Funny, a non United supporter reminded me of this the other day. I guess they had something to build on - not quite sure what, but something must have happened.

Domestically De Boer and Blanc but I understand if you argue. Otherwise Simeone is alone.
Blanc is a fair example I think. Maybe he needs to do a little better with PSG in the Champions League next season before he starts to be spoken of as 'successful' but definitely wouldn't argue. Simeone is class and an excellent manager who I overlooked

This guy is clueless. Can't believe people take him seriously.

He is posting something i want to be true, so i chose to believe him!
Don't you come here and spoil my fun!

Ducker could've at the very least sourced his information....as in "sources close to Mourinho speaking on the condition of anonymity, told the Telegraph.....".

I think they are just trying to wait till the season ends to relieve van Gaal honourably and then hire Mou. Seems a little moot sacking him for an interim Giggs at this point.

Also giggs mught be refusing to become interim coach, he may only want to be a head coach permanently. I think if mou comes then giggs leaves. I also think that giggs might have a job lined up in the summer.

That has to pretty much be a given.
But I doubt Giggs has anything lined up though. He is still probably hoping Fergie pulls a rabbit out of the hat and gets him the job.

If that's what he's relying on to get the job we are fecked if that comes through.
Been reading a few articles for the last few days that said the Sirs were easing up on the idea of being against Mou becoming Manager. So there is some light at the end of that weirdly shaped tunnel.

Loads are reporting that he's told 'friends' that he's coming. Sounds like a non-story but when the Indy, Telegraph, Mirror and Express (ok, but the others...) are reporting it then maybe some legs in it.
When one rag "breaks" the story the others pick up on it just in case it might be true. 50 media outlets could be reporting it, but it could have originated from only one source so it's nothing to go by. I'm not saying it's not true, but these days you have to be wary no matter how many outlets are reporting something.

Yep absolutely. Hard for me to see Mourinho, or even if it had been Poch, agreeing to 'groom' their 'successor':D
The club could get away with it as LVG is retiring, but can't see any other Boss feeling comfortable with this.
