forget that we're getting Mourinho, Moyes just said that we shouldn't be a sacking club

I fear people are going to say this even though its not true. Moyes was sacked for finishing 7th with the League champions, Van Gaal will probably be sacked for spending a few hundred million, playing boring football and most likely finishing outside the top 4. Moyes and Van Gaal would have been sacked a long time before they actually were if we were a sacking club.

Is there a chance Mourinho has insisted he will only take the job in the summer?

Could that be the reason no one has announced anything before today's slip up?

There's talk (albeit on Twatter) that his severance package stipulated that he couldn't manage in the EPL this season.

If we've agreed a deal with Mourinho behind Van Gaal's back it's pretty poor behaviour, regardless of how bad his performance. Simply for that reason I don't think it's a done deal as claimed.

Never known any business, never mind football club, not to plan for succession besides United. Look at Munich or Barcelona. It guarantees stability. Just look how the lack of post-Fergie plan has wrecked us.

Bit chubby too.

We're gonna get bald, fat Mourinho aren't we? He will turn out to be a shit version the proper one.

Bet Pep will be smug if he's a got a full on combover come August.

Maybe that's why Bobby Charlton doesn't want Mourinho.

Obviously likes to be big daddy combover and doesn't want any competition.

Ferguson was tapped up by Charlton at the 86 World Cup before Atkinson was binned in November of that year. All the time.

I always fail to understand how a severance package can stipulate that you cannot work somewhere for a period of time. It's a breach of human rights, he's free to do whatever he wants while he's no longer employed be someone, albeit at an expense to payment maybe.

Anyway, if Van Gaal knows the writing is on the wall, it would also give him the opportunity to step down from his final job with dignity and hand it over with a blessing (of sorts).

Either way, after today something will have to be said.

Gardening leave is pretty common, so are non competition agreements.
EDIT: Considering technically he wasn't actually sacked, then its plausible.

Yup, he left 'by mutual consent' which means there would almost certainly be constraints on what he can do for the remainder of the season whilst he got a nice pay off.

He wasn't sacked though. He did nothing to warrant having his contract terminated.

He was relieved of first team duties and at that point it's in his interest to agree terms with Chelsea to get as much money as possible and leave himself free to find another club.

It's not beyond belief that one of Chelsea's conditions might be that he doesn't join a rival club this season.

When you consider that any rival club that would want him this season would highly likely want him because they are not doing very well themselves and are by default likely to be competition for Chelsea for a Europa League spot or by some miracle a Chamoions League spot (remembering he was sacked 2 months ago with a lot of games to play). So it's not beyond belief that he's contractually blocked from signing for us.

I think it's 99% certain that Chelsea have enforced a 'Gardening Leave' clause. They'd have been mad not to.

A sacking club would make unreasonable demands like winning the league year year out. Getting to top 4 is reasonable

If you think that clubs don't line up the next manager long before the previous one is sacked then you're as naive as they come.

Van Gaal is a smart man. He knows it's not going well and I suspect he knows the axe is being sharpened.

Even if he wasn't leaving end of season, his contract is at a stage the club should be talking to replacements now.
He is already mentioned something similar in that interview with the journalist. Due to type of relationship he has with the higher up he'd expect them to tell him its happening. Though I don't know the facts but I believe he was approached by United to take the job, so would assume his relationship/contract with the bosses has detail is a lot more different to what most of us are assuming.

I think Van Gaal knows, he's just either been told to keep it quiet (perhaps because the club want to avoid a media circus over it mid-season, perhaps because we'd have to inform the stock exchange first).

I think he's been offered good terms on his severance pay himself in the summer if he stays til the summer rather than quitting and getting nothing.

Well, whether this means he's coming or not, I suspect it'll help Van Gaal as the support will be less upset on Monday now.

That's the picture am getting as well.

Castles is like Ogden, was great when Moyes was here but the second he left his information dried up.

Duncan Castles: I cant say I like the cnut, but I love his hairline tbf.

Does the guy know anything? I doubt it.
