BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2015

Oh look the Murray haters are back out in force

Delighted for the lad!

Timing (winning the Davis at the end of the year) and the popularity of the sport compared with some of the others won it...

Fair play to Murray. Great achievement this year for him. Murray trying to crack some jokes

 Didn't deserve that but at least Fury didn't win, the cnut.

Will say though that Murray is one of the best sportsmen that Scotland has had, deserves a knighthood at some point.

Surprising winner but good for him. Glad for Ennis great achievement but more so for Sinfield, Rugby League always gets overlooked so it's great he got 2nd.

Not sure why you're asking "Why are people voting for Fury?" or why I think it's a joke that he's not in the top three. He's just become the Heavyweight champion.

True, which is why he's been nominated for the award. Everyone who's nominated was there for an excellent sporting achievement.

Lewis Hamilton didn't make the top 3 despite retaining his world title in a dominant fashion, for example. From a sporting perspective, Fury would have a decent claim at making it into the top three, but I don't see why it should be a foregone conclusion that he's there considering all the candidates are top sportspeople who have had some brilliant achievements.

Chuffed for Sinfield. First RL player to enter the top 3. Was really hoping he'd win it. Incredible year for him, retiring with a domestic treble. Incredibly consistent career, and seems like a great guy all round.

Such a sterile result. Too bad the British public has lost its sense of humour. Golden. I repeat, GOLDEN, opportunity missed.

What did Sinfield do? Must admit, I'd never heard of him

Sitting in a car and driving fast isn't exactly a sporting triumph.

Golden opportunity to have a homophobic, bigot, win SPOTY?

Yeah, what a crying shame that didn't happen. Stupid British public and their dislike towards scummy people.

And has a personality.

He has a personality which involves him being an obnoxious, arrogant homophobic and sexist bigot. I thought the whole campaign to try and get him removed from the running was a bit silly, but he's still a complete arsehole.

Murray might not come out with outlandish statements, but he comes across as a likable, decent person who's incredibly humbled to be where he is, and who has a sort of self-awareness of his supposed dour personality. In other words, he seems kind of relateable; someone who's made it big, but still has retained a sense of who they are. Fury's just a prick, despite his talent as a boxer.

Fury wasn't going to win because he's controversial and has plenty of people that dislike his personality. You can bet money on it had that been somebody like Anthony Joshua he'd have placed in the top three and probably have walked it.

That's your opinion, and it's hardly a guarantee. As I've said, all of the contenders have been involved in incredibly impressive sporting triumphs and all deserve to be there. Joshua might have gotten into the top three, but it wouldn't be a foregone conclusion at all.

I said it before, the lack of Joe Root on the list was a big oversight

But tells you how much we take some people's achievements as standard that they don't even seem to be close to the top three, and that's Mo Farah. Incredible achievement to win the 5k and 10k world double - not a thing many have done, so to defend it was very impressive

Sitting in a car and driving fast isn't exactly a sporting triumph.

I'll give you the fact that Hamilton undoubtedly benefits from having the best car, but he's still achieved a lot in that he's had to work hard from a young age to become a top driver, and warrant a place at a top F1 team. He's one of the best in his sport at what he does.

The "driving a car" argument is ridiculous, and ignores the intricacies which F1 will have as a sport. It's like me saying that Tyson Fury only punches people in the face. Or that footballers just kick a ball into a net. Or that Murray just hits a ball with a racket. Any sport can be reduced to something very simple if you take a biased view against it.

I can assure you, none of those people would come to your dinner parties.

If they're having steroids for dinner and all the women are doing the cleaning up, he'd maybe have a shot at it.
