Battlestar Gallactica.

But the ending is shit.

I'm sorry, but I'm obligated to make this very clear at any and all occasion.

It's not shit, it's just not great.

And considering this is possibly the best Sci-Fi show I've ever watched, I'm willing to let it go.

When you've witnessed the abomination that is the ending to Lost, you quickly forgive Battlestar.

Half way though season 4 now , one of the best Si Fi series I have seen , not up to B5 standard but close.
One thing that really pisses me of is the word FRAK where did that get it from.
I was shocked at who 4 of the final 5 are , but guessed the 5th strightaway.
I have not read anything about the ending.

Was used in the original series I think. It really pissed me off, they used it because they can't say feck on Sci-Fi and they obviously wanted this as an alternative to make things more adult but it just sounded so stupid when anyone said it.

Watched all of BSG and really enyoyed it ,not far from Babylon 5 standard but close , apart from the final ep,B5 was excellent BSG was just daft.

Was Kara and angel? where the wings tattoo's a clue ?and why was she told lots of time she was the harbinger of doom and would lead to the distrusction of the humans , she did not she found them a new place to live , in a very silly way but still found there new earth.
I can see why they destroyed all there ship and tech ad flew them into the moon.

What about the very end with Balar and Caprica 6 who where they , also angels?.
Could of done so much more with the end , but choice not to.
BSG is not something I will sit though again , unlike B5 which I have watched quite a few times and will watch again , but it was a good series.
Going to watch Caprica now ,see how that pans out.

My girlfriend tried to make me watch this so to spite her and get her off my back I deliberately went and spoiled the ending in Wikipedia so there was no point watching the show.

I did the same for Wheel of Time.

Christ, she has crap taste. I guess I should already have guessed that, though - she's going out with me!

thats cruel , it was not bad , enjoyed it mostly , a few things did piss me off.
The use of the word FRACK
Also they had problems with Fuel , water and food they had to eat some algae , but they always had a huge amount of alcohol and fags.

Finally finished the series. Seems I took a bit of time off from it. Season 4 was better than season 3(which isn't hard to do really). One thing I found comical and very stupid was Gaias' harem of women thing he had going on. What the shit?

I thought the ending was alright.

It was a bit to much of a tribute to Douglas Adam's Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

The ending confirmed the writers had no idea what they were doing when it came to bringing up mysteries they had no answers to. Post-finale interviews have sort of confirmed this. I remember seeing Moore saying something like "we came into the writers room and started wondering how are we going to end this?!"

Its a real shame really. The show started off so well but with no future planning it just goes to shit. Very similiar to Lost in a way I suppose and it inevitably ends with a crap finish. Although I still didn't overly mind the BSG finish, but I did only watch it once. :(

It did go stale half way through S3 and some of S4. But its still a great show that i'll eventually rewatch.

I think mid way through season 3 it really picked up. The final season yes was silly in parts but enjoyable none the less.

Redsky At Night - I dont think I have ever watched any series more than once. Why would you need to watch again?

Yep I there's no way I'll watch Lost or BSG again. I've watched the likes of The Wire and Shield twice and actually found them more rewarding the second time around.

Some shows are better the 2nd time of viewing Randall, depends on the complexity of the show I suppose. I wouldn't bother with Lost because it ended up as pretentious shit, but BSG had some fantastic moments, great acting and brilliant characters.

The Wire being another i'd easily watch again, Dexter, Band of Brothers etc etc

Same. I deleted every single episode of BSG from my hard disk after that series finale.

Thaty show would have been in my top5 shows of all time, had it even delivered an ok finale.

The ending was OK , they should of watched Babylon 5 for how to end a long running Sci-Fi series , best ending of a show ever.

The ending was nowhere neeeear as bad as Lost.

That was kind of a running problem all the way through ... don't know if anyone listened to the podcasts that ran alongside the series with Moore, but even with the '5' the writers pretty much learned/decided who they were about the same time as the audience found out who they were!

Of course, the problem with this and all shows is that there's little point laying out a map/bible for the complete story, because you never known when the network are going to cancel.

Just finished this. What a show. Especially the first two seasons, best I've seen from any show in a long time and certainly the best sci-fi show I've ever seen.

As for the ending, didn't think it was nearly as bad as I'd heard. They left massive questions unanswered which is annoying, but thematically I think they wrapped it up in a way that made sense.

Can't believe they didn't explain Starbuck though.

Starbuck was an angel, sent to show them the way to Earth, I think that's what your supposed to take away from it. Not unlike the Baltar/ Six angels that talk at the end.

The ending had it's flaws but still easily the besy scifi show ever

“Kara, I think, is whatever you want her to be. It’s easy to put that label on her: Angel, or Messenger of God, or whatever. Kara Thrace died and was resurrected and came back and took the people to their final end. That was her role, her destiny on the show… We debated back and forth in the writers’ room for a while on giving it more definition, and saying, definitively, “This is what she is,” and we decided that the more you try to outline it and give voice to it and put a name on it, the less interesting it became. We just decided this was the most interesting way to go out, with her disappearing without trying to name what she was

This is what the shows maker said. I've yet to see a theory that explains everything tbh, though the best one is that like number 6 and Baltar, she is an angel.

I watched the entire series for the first time in the new year. I did it back to back-to-back in about two weeks and echo everything you've said. The middle of season 3 was a bit slow and the final explanation was a bit of a cop-out, but I could just about accept it. Brilliant show overall, second only to Babylon 5 in terms of TV sci-fi.

The last season puts it comfortably below Babylon 5, in my opinion, particularly with the ending. Still great, I just won't ever watch the last episode again.

Yay! My favorite TV show (or at-least sci-fi TV show) of all time. I loved it.

Saying that, the last season wasn't exactly great. I wouldn't call Kara a deus ex machina (neither Number 6/Gaius Baltar anger versions) cause there were hints of that before but still it wasn't a great ending. It doesn't make the TV show less great though.

Good mini and first season, but from middle of second it went more and more disappointing.

Always found it funny how Olmos hated the idea of aliens in BSG, yet was ok with...well, BSG.

The ending still makes me mad to this day.

I mean I could deal with the whole religion thing as a 'something others left behind as a way to find earth again' or even the whole 'humanitys fecked, lets turn to religion'.

To end a sci-fi show with effectively 'angels did it'. fecking hell. Way to ruin one of the best sci-fi series.

It wouldn't have been so bad if the entire point of Battlestar Galactica up until that point didn't seem to essentially be the struggle between reason and religion. Adama vs Roslin, and so on, where it was presented as very much a grey area. And then in the final season they just went: "nope, angels."

It's not like I wanted them to disprove religion or something like that, but to push that balance through the entire series and then just abandon it at the end, on top of the ridiculous "back to pastoral roots" nonsense.

Agree with this man (like I always do). I love Battlestar, it's interesting watching it through a second time. I'd love to know if the writers knew the story evolution right at the beginning, there's so many funny scenes with toasters talking to toasters without even knowing.

If you listened to the podcasts that ran alongside the original broadcast of the show (which I assume are still available) they were making up large elements pretty much as they went along. Which makes it kind of disappointing, but also explains the cop-out ending. I loved the show but hated the finale and watched the whole thing through again recently and there are so many clues and breadcrumbs that are left throughout the early series that seem well thought out and like they're leading somewhere, but they just get forgotten about. So my second viewing just made my enjoyment even less. Still one of the best complete TV shows nevertheless.

I didn't mind the ending tbh, they were always going to struggle to make a decent ending because there was really only two routes to go down, happy or depressing. Shame they made it up then, I really don't get why writers don't think ahead. I know its risky because a show can get cancelled at any point, but even so as a writer shouldn't you always be thinking of the bigger picture?

It was a terrible ending, no amount of pretentious 'its what you make of it that matters, starbuck is whatever you want her to be' will wash, its bull.

Great 2 series, at the end of the day its a difficult series to write an end to without being...well boring.

It started to fall apart when they settled on new caprica. The concept of the cylon 'split' was poor. It just smacks of trying to ensure a working system of storylines didnt get stale so they went all 'lost' on us. Real shame as they had something brilliant for two years.

One thing ive never properly understood (that there wasnt a bulls**t explanation for) was the cancer the second time round. If it so magically cured cancer the first time, why couldnt they just use the same 'cure' again...if anything it was more abundent the second time round than the first.

Loved the show as well....specially first 2 season.

Would love to watch it second time as well but I hardly watch any show twice.
