if we include Di Maria in the deal it'd be a mistake too.
If we end up not going for Schneiderlin and instead signing Schweinsteiger whilst letting Di Maria go I'll give up.

This is a player that would suit us nicely for a year or two but only as a cheap deal because he wants to leave and his contract is running out. We shouldn't consider him as a permanent midfield solution and pay alot of money for him or sacrifice key players to bring him in.
He is a nice to have imo but nothing more
I've come to the stage that I'd only want him if we also get Schneiderlin AND don't make Di Maria part of the deal. I do rate him very highly but some of the latest rumours are crazy. We might get ripped off again.

Yeah, a midfield trio of Schneiderlin behind Herrera and Schweinsteiger is great on paper... Just so strong in every aspect. Won't need Fellaini in there to add a physical presence like before either.
I do not think they are in any way related, we can not be as dumb as that surely.

Fellaini, Di Maria, Schweinsteiger, Scnheiderlin, Mata , Herrara, Carrick, Blind. 8 players for approx 5 slots? This is over kill. Many from this list will be pissed off at not getting a lot of playing time and might bugger off next season.

I don't believe we will not go for Schneiderlin if we get Schweinsteiger.. That's just not sensible at all Carrick does not have 10 more years in him and neither does Schweinsteiger..
Van Gaal said he would ideally like to players per position. Very sure everyone Van Gaal wants at the club will get plenty of game time with the amount of matches we could potentially have. We could easily accommodate Carrick, Herrera, Blind, Fellaini, Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger in our squad.
I think Mata is brilliant, but he isn't so good you count him twice. Di Maria most likely won't feature in midfield either.
So that's 7 for 3 positions. A tad overkill still though.

With both Schwen and Schneiderlin coming in, i don't see space for Blind at CM,he would be confined to RB or utility player.

I want Schneiderlin much more than him. Younger and will probably stay injury free.
I can't help but feel if Schneiderlin was a priority he would be already a United player. Southampton wants to sell him, the player wants to leave and apperantely we are the only club interested.
All of that makes me think Schweinsteiger is the number one target and we put the Schneiderlin deal on hold until the German makes up his mind.

By all accounts the negotiations for Schneiderlin were already underway and have resumed again with both clubs wanting it sorted.
I just don't see us negotiating with Southampton in bad faith if we'd be willing to ditch the bid if Schweinsteiger is up for moving.

We need both. I don't see Carrick playing at top level for more than a year, while Blind might well be our first choice left back till Shaw gets his act together. LvG may not want Mata in midfield either. Six midfielders vying for 3 places, with the extra CL matches, is not exactly a luxury.

?But seriously Mata has played a lot of wing for us but i will include him as he is pretty awesome as a ACM. If ADM stays he will be on the wing I think. Blind has look far more assured at left back. So that leaves Carrick, Scheiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Herrera, Fellaini, and Mata. Six players for our 3 CM spots. Honestly that looks amazing to me. We can play possession, we can play big, we can play quick, or we can play defensively.

The problem is the these 5 players (maybe not fellaini) are high profile players. Asking someone to be benched will be an issue. For example if Herrara and Carrick & Schweinsteiger are playing well as a group, Schneiderlin & Fellaini are going to be pissed if they are benched for a long time. Similar to how Young kept Di Maria away from a starting position.
But anyway this is a good problem to have. I am not sure if Schweinsteiger is going to come.
This. Schweiny has an offer on the table, which I think is acceptable to Bayern as well.
