Great NT career Basti! Hope he stays with us for at least 1-2 more seasons.

Retirement has begun. Now I believe even more that, should Mou show him the door, it will be the end of his active football career.

We should sell him as long as we could find someone who might pay us a few quid for him.

He's way to expensive on the loan bill and injury prone for a decent squad player in the EPL. I've always rated him highly but he signed too late with us. I think his time is over and we should start a serious clearout of our squad.

Would rather see him leaving instead of TFM or Perreira tbh.

Hope this is all nonsense. I don't think we saw the real Schweinsteiger this season, but he didn't look past it at the Euros. I reckon he's still got it as long as he's fully fit.

BBC are reporting it as "Breaking news" - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36921706

He's still a player with plenty of ability on the ball and in that regard probably our best CM - impending Pogba's arrival of course. But then he's blighted by injuries and even when he's fit his legs have gone he can't last/perform throughout the duration of a match.

I wanted him to stay, but if we're assuming Carrick isn't a first team player this season, then I don't see why we need two sub options of a similar mould. One would suffice and that's even discounting Blind. Plus Carrick is British and we need to somewhat fulfill the homegrown quota.

A shame, seeing as it was only two years ago he was the man of the match in a World Cup final.

Really hope he doesn't leave. I think Mourinho can find use for him even as a squad player, though if he thinks otherwise then that's that I suppose. Mourinho is the one who's a world class manager, not me.

What is Basti's best position? Is he a b2b midfielder or a DM. I always thought he was a b2b but didn't he play the DM role against France in the euros?

Well he's lost his legs with age so I'd say DM is definitely the better fit for him now. As you said he played quite well as a #6 with Kroos and Ozil ahead against France.

A midfield three of him with Schneiderlin and Pogba ahead would work I think. Won't happen until Rooney gets dropped though.

There are a lot of players I'd want out the club before him.

He was one of our better performers once he got fit and in the team, I'd personally keep him around for another season, don't see much use in letting him leave.

According to Sportbild Schweinsteiger came back into training yesterday. In the morning he did not participate in a 11vs11 from the first team that are already in training for some time but took part in a fitness hour with the U21 - in the afternoon he was exercising with the first team.

According to Sportbild Mou did not tell him that he wants him out...

BBC said he is set to leave, so unless something changes, he'll be off.

That is how I want us to play. Basti and Carrick can alternate in the DM role. But since it looks likely that we'll be playing 4231, a lot depends on how Morgan does. If he can provide defensive cover and link up play between our defense and midfield, it might work. I'm not really sure if he has that in his game. What we really need is a player like Carrick but with better mobility. Maybe Diarra could be that player for us.

Be glad to see him gone, he was old and on clearly on the decline when we bought him hence why Bayern/Pep had no issues moving him on. Very nice guy and a United fan so have lots of respect for him but football moves quickly.

I hope he stays. Still class on his day, we just need to manage him better, just like Carrick. Still plenty of games to play, i would love it if he stayed another season.

They repeated articles from Daily Mail - and part of it was that this guys had to excercise with the U21 yesterday...

I cannot insert the link to the Daily Fail article - but they draw their conclusion from that U21-training yesterday and tell that the 9 players have been told by Mou.

---------

I cannot tell you if there is not a talk between the two to follow - I just can tell you that from information of the German Sportbild he was in the normal training yesterday afternoon - and there was not such a talk between him and Mou.

I can imagine that Schweinsteiger is in a good fitness status right now and probably near the level of the others. The semifinal was July 7th, he should not have lost much in 2 weeks holidays and is working again since July 20th with the fitness crew that got him in shape for the Euros.

I'm not at all bothered that he's going. Fantastic player in his prime but he hasn't shown anything close to that level in a United shirt, no matter how hard our fans try to convince themselves he did.

There were way too many passengers in the midfield last season, so it needed to be culled. With any luck we might get our money back for him.

Livid about this. He can still play an important role for us when fit. Offers more than Fellaini FFS.

Hope we can keep him for the season ahead, have him as a 6 in a 4-3-3 with Morgan and Pogba in front.

I'd like to see him stay for another season, I think he has more to offer and with him retiring form the National team that may help him to stay fit a bit more.

Delighted. He's been on holiday most of his time here anyway, on and off the pitch. Time to send him away on a permanent vacation.

It sends a good message to everyone concerned. That, MUFC ain't a retirement home. Just hope that all the other non-performers are also shown the door especially Captain Good-for-Nothing.

I remember how people criticized me when we signed him and I said he was no longer in his prime and would be injured a lot of the time. Looks pretty true now.

Anyways, I'd like to keep him as a veteran option off the bench.

More logical than 'made train with the u21s as punishment' or some trash like that. If Bastian was given longer time off than Ashley Young (for example) it makes sense that he would come back and work his way up to fitness/full sessions etc.

If he is to be sold I wouldn't be surprised. His close ties to LvG could work against him in this case as well as recent injury troubles. Shame but was always a risky signing. The best time to get him would a been a few years ago except we wouldn't have got him then so catch 22 really.

If it's true he's training on his own, why is he being ostracised in this way? Is this normal practice? I understand if it's due to disciplinary issues. Maybe so as not to be privy to team tactics and such but that seems a bit much really. Anybody know why?

I agree with this, though his problem is staying fit.
He is constantly recovering from an injury and regaining fitness.
Then while regaining fitness, he gets injured again.
Then he is back to recovery.

Jose typically has no patience for sick notes like Jones and Bastian and I think that that's what the issue is here.

Mourinho prefer to work with a squad of 24 players, no more no less.

So what exactly happened with him that he was injured most of the latter part of last season, fit for the euros, and now injured again? Did I miss something?
