I think its Berbas lack of impact as a sub which has decided his fate
Michael Owen still has big goals left in him.
Its tough on Berbatov, but we can worry/mourn/debate the implications at a later date.
SAF obviously thinks that the midfield will be run into the ground and so has given himself as many options as possible including replacing the entire midfield 3 after 70 mins if need be!

I heard that should we win it will be Van der Sar who lifts the trophy. Seems fitting.
He can also slow a game down though in equal measure and if we end up chasing the game he's not an impact sub. I feel really sorry for him though, the leagues top scorer for god sake. However in SAF we trust.

If Fergie decides that Fletcher has a better chance of appearing in the match ahead of Berba for tactical reasons, then why or how is it sickening?
Berbs only has himself to blame for his impotence whenever he's brought on in the business end of the season. Shouldn't be that much of a surprise considering some of the Cafe members were calling for it after Blackpool.
Amazing that joint top scorer not on bench. Not sure where that leaves Berba's United future.
I hate to be the one to say it, but if Berba has been left out then I think it's more for sentimentality for Scholes than anything else. Scholes will only be used tonight if we're leading and need to hold the ball, whereas Fletcher and Anderson would be more suited to chasing the game down against Barca's possession game.
I had mentioned in Raees' blog post that Owen should be on the bench as a direct replacement for Hernandez once he's run himself into the ground, but I think having just one striker there is risky.
This is obviously not a post intended to have a go at Scholes, just tat I think we could do with other options for this game that I don't think Scholes can provide anymore, unless we get a two goal lead.

Could well be SAF's mentality - this may well be Scholes's last final with us, and he's thinking that Berba's going to stick around a while longer and have more opportunities yet.
Berbatov hasn't scored many in the last couple of months and not scored in the CL the past 2 seasons so its sort of understandable but its dissapointing on a personal level he isn't rewarded after a good season. I would have him on the bench over Fletcher.

Berbatov has scored what, once off the bench in his entire United career. Think he got a single goal off the bench for Spurs too, heard that at one point. Could have done himself some favours if he had done that more often
Hard on Berbatov, but it has to be said that if we are to bring a forward from the bench, it would be because we need a goal. And I'd trust Owen to get that goal more than I'd trust Berbatov. It makes the decision rough, but simple.
Not surprised to see just one striker and not surprised that Owen is that striker. More surprised to see 3 centre mids there to be honest as I expeccted Rafael/O'Shea.
