They probably are in cahoots after being butt hurt with the ESL fiasco. Hardly a theory, let's roll with it.
It also adds to their argument for the ESL, “we need this to survive” and all that.
Run with it.

They arent allowed to register any new signings, even if he went for 1 euro a week he wouldnt be allowed to play as I understand it.If he loves them he’ll cave and agree to play for a measly 300k a week.
I think he’s already on blower to PSG.
2013 I think. When was this salary cap introduced, I dont recall hearing about it last season. Also, more pertinently, why was it introduced? Surely la liga knew this would screw over the top teams. Star players leaving means la liga is less lucrative for broadcasters
If that’s the case then what sort of clusterfeck are they running down there where they can’t register their best player becuase they’ve been busy signing turds on big contracts. They arent allowed to register any new signings, even if he went for 1 euro a week he wouldnt be allowed to play as I understand it.

You're speaking for yourself, which is absolutely okay. There's no denying that having to let Messi go will hurt La Liga for a while, but people are acting like it's the end of the world and that spanish football is doomed. Throughout history Spain, especially Real and Barca, have attracted players that either were or on the of way becoming the best in the world. It didn't begin Messi and certainly won't end with him. Even he's probably the best to ever have graced a football pitch. It’s quite hard to watch La Liga now, legally, in England, it’s a separate subscription for instance, which I’m certainly not paying for - why is that?
He literally said this in his Press Conference
Barcelona are fecked
This isn’t a Fortune 500 company that can recover from this or right it off as a loss. This is a football clubHoly shit. That's a lot of money to lose in one year.

I would be foaming at the mouth if I were a Barca fan.
How are they even maintaining this?Laporta: "Last season's losses are 487 million euros. This Season it will be more "
Holy shit , 500M loss ? How is Barca not banned because of FFP
Well, didn’t they take on €700m short-term debt? How are they even maintaining this?
Disgraceful.
They’re fecked. Like well and truly fecked.
How are they even maintaining this?
Disgraceful.
To my understanding, nor Depay or Aguero can be registered as of now. They'd have to offload a few players first or reduce their salary. But a Barcelona fan can come in and correct me if I'm mistaken. If that’s the case then what sort of clusterfeck are they running down there where they can’t register their best player becuase they’ve been busy signing turds on big contracts.

Why the feck were they making any new signings given the financial hole they're in?Judging by the interview, Barcelona will have a hard time even registering the new signings without Messi as well.
Maybe someone like Aguero wont be part of the team this season?
I don't think people are blaming Messi specifically are they? However, his exorbitant contract in addition to all of the others that Barca have agreed with their players are to blame here. Mis-management of a club and business on a massive scale. It's been frustrating to read RedCafe over the last year or two. Every turn it's "Messi's contract demands this", "Messi wants that", "Barca are in the hole because of Messi", yadda yadda yadda.
For those still using this whole fiasco as an excuse to blame Messi and not focus on Bartomau, they'd do well to heed the above quotes. They are still fecked without Messi because of the malpractice in managing the club over a period of Bartomeu's entire reign.
500 million euro loss per year is not good for a football club. Its one thing to lose Messi, its another knowing you're blowing your arse that badly ever year.I don’t think they are, I think this will be good for them.

Well if its true Barcelona are already 1 billion in debt and are going to record close to 500m loses this year I honestly think its time for them to be put in administration or transfer ban until the debt is back under control. They must be made to sell players now or its going to get worse.

Its not like they haven't tried, there just aren't any clubs interested in buying from them now.
It looks like Laporta was just waiting around, hoping one day Tebas would ease the restrictions, some plan that.
Wait… so the revenue is €500m lower than before, but they didn’t actually finish the year with a loss of €500m.Where are the Barca fans who think this will be made back? Additionally, I believe it, they had a projected revenue of €1bn for last season and it was rumoured that it was more likely to be €660m which means the €487m is in the right ballpark. He has also seen the audit which is due to be published and admitted that it is way worse than he thought so this would support these figures.

That is a very big difference.
Well I think they're asking for stupid prices or trying back handed swap deals, it's time for a fire sale,Its not like they haven't tried, there just aren't any clubs interested in buying from them now.

I've been saying this for ages now, and anyone who follows Barcelona knows it too; that Bartomeu and his recruitment policy has fecked up the team infinitely more than a superstar Messi contract ever could.
Laporta: "Without Messi, the wage bill is 95% compared to the club's income."
Laporta: "Even without Messi we do not have more margin in the salary limit."
Laporta: "The football industry recommends a wage bill between 65% and 70% of the Club's in income. Now, it is 95%. The problem is not only wages but also the very high amortizations."
For those still using this whole fiasco as an excuse to blame Messi and not focus on Bartomau, they'd do well to heed the above quotes. They are still fecked without Messi because of the malpractice in managing the club over a period of Bartomeu's entire reign.
Lets not pretend they offered Messi an obscene contract in a vacuum, he and his team negotitated to get into the fees they agreed to... actually maybe not, given how mental these messages have been, maybe they did just ring him up during contract renewal and be screaming down the phone "Whatever it was before, will double it!!!"
There must be some hyperbole in his statements or there was zero point in being so bullish before hand that they'd be able to resign Messi, a 95% wage to turnover ratio before you account for Messi and amortizations of player purchases is batshit crazy. Like not just "haha, that's doesn't make sense" like utterly unhinged from reality. There was no way it ever made sense.
If you believe the reported Messi wages of 2mil a week, they were spending over a billion a year? They were spending more than City, Liverpool and Us combined?
I guess he’s being clever, it’s surely 95% without Messi compared to Covid revenue which is 500m below expected revenue.
