Barcelona: Charged with corruption .... again!

Hoeneß was commenting on Barcelona being after Lewandowski. He said something like Barcelona are planning to bid 50 million Euro for Lewandowski despite being1.3 Billion Euro in debt. Based on German laws and DFL rules they would have to file for bankruptcy and go into administration.
First of all: Hoeneß is an absolute choleric idiot. Second: debt per se is not a problem if you can serve it. It is quite normal for any company to use it as a lever (see what i did there).

- Barcelona debt and future commitments 20/21 - €1350M.
- If the same squad had continued this 2021/22 season, the wage bill would have amounted to €835M.

Debt and future commitments - €1350M

- €673M of bank debt. A loan is €595M for 10 years with an interest of 1.98%. Of this amount 100M is an advance in the remodeling of the stadium. When the club asks for financing for the stadium, it is normal to cancel this debt of 100M.

- Salary deferrals with players, estimated at 389 million (147 postponed the 2020/21 season by the collective table and 238 as loyalty bonuses, signing bonuses and end-of-contract bonuses). These are future expenses, for example when Piqué ends his contract within 2 years and is given a loyalty bonuses or end-of-contract bonuses . Busquets and Alba must also have these bonuses.

- €56M for commitments related to Espai Barça.
- €96M for legal litigation.
- €40M in suscribers revenue that Barcelona will not be able to collect.
- €79M in advance of LaLiga's television rights.
- €23M Other commitments.

This year the club expected losses of €150M but with the activation of the first lever Barcelona will have profits of between 80-100M.

Season 20-21 Barcelona had a loss of €481M.

"For example, another important figure that the CEO highlighted is the 160 million that they admit to having devalued by five players, which helps explain along with the 91 million judicial provisions that both spending and losses have grown so much. Between these two items, we find a total of 251 million that inflate expenses and account for more than half of the losses presented. "

- Salary bill Barcelona season 21-22 - €560M.
Of this amount €100M+ correspond to deferred salaries and loyalty bonuses, signing bonuses and end-of-contract bonuses.

- Renovations of Pedri, Fati, Araujo and Gavi will mean an increase in the wage bill of about €25M.

Signings and possible signings.

- Lewandowski 45M - 3 years/22M year = wage will €37M
- Raphinha €60M - 5 years/10M year = €22M
- Kounde €60M - 5 years/ 10M year = €22M
- Kessie - €10M
- Christensen - €10M
- Azpilicueta and M. Alonso €22M both.

25+37+22+22+10+10+22 = €148M increase in the wage bill.

Transfers and loans.

- Coutinho 25M + 20M (Amortization + salary)
- Dembélé 21M + 7M if he renews with salary reduction.
- S. Roberto - Salary reduction from 10M to 4M = 6M.
- L. D. Jong €3M
- Lenglet loan - €8M
- R. Puig possible loan €3M
- Umtiti possible loan €5M
- Neto possible loan €5M
- Depay possible transfer €10M
- Mingueza possible loan €2M
- Agüero retired €10M

45+28+6+3+8+3+5+5+10+2+10 = €125M decrease in the wage bill.

148 million increase in the wage bill with the transfers and 125 million euros of reduction in the wage bill with the transfers and loans.

- I have not put anything of de Jong and Bernardo Silva.
- Atletico Madrid have a mandatory purchase of 40 million euros if Griezzman plays more than 50% of the games in which he is available. if it occurs, the wage bill will be lowered by 24 million euros per year. (amortizacion).
- Truncao seems to be going on loan to Sporting Lisbon with a mandatory purchase of 20 million euros.
- I forgot to put Braithwate and we will have to see if Piqué, Alba and Busquets accept a salary reduction.

Thats a good post, thanks.
I think theres a mix of some hopeful and generous estimates with transfer fees and your struggling to find a real world saving despite that. But your clearly in an improving situation (not sure thats a surprise with pandemic but its starting to look vaguely affordable so thats good).

I only tried to recapture what Hoeneß said.

I seriously doubt under the strict licence regulations of DFL Barcelona having 1,3 billion Euro of debt and still making operational losses would be allowed to act in the way they do now.

As we all know the majority of companies going into administration because of cash flow not long-term debt.

Delay and Umtiti leaving is beyond hopeful and Griezmann looks like he’s returning to Barca which adds his 22m back to Barca.
It’s all nonsense

They can’t just be targeting top 4 and stagnating while paying down debt because those massive commercial deals they have are based on winning titles not just finishing 4th. Look at Arsenal for example once we started paying down the stadium debt and stopped signing players to compete for titles we started to fall behind commercially and we fell behind the more successful clubs. Signings like Lewandowski are aimed at winning the CL to keep the sponsors happy to pay premium amounts.
Not the same case though. Arsenal invested alot into the new stadium and unfortunately Chelsea came into the picture in 2004 and City in 2009. Barca is not in a such danger.

In a few days the economic results will be presented and there we will see how the situation is.

Griezzman has a mandatory purchase of €40M if he plays 50% of the matches in which he is available. Last year he played 65%, so this year playing even less Atletico will have to buy him. And if they don't buy him, they have to compensate Barcelona with an amount.

Umtiti is negotiating with Rennes right now.

In under a decade, Barcelona has gone from the club that the whole world adored to probably the most degenerate and unwholesome club in modern football. They've also gone from the best team in the history of the sport to a club teetering on the brink of total collapse. And it's all completely self-inflicted.

Bartomeu obviously takes most of the blame for their financial situation, but it's not as though they've turned it around since his departure and suddenly embarked on a road of brilliant financial acumen. Instead of building around young homegrown talent, they're trying to sign aging stars in the twilight of their careers, with no re-sale value whatsoever, all while unable to pay the players they already have. Laporta continues to make Barcelona less and less respectable by the day with shameless, slimy public statements. Vilifying their own players in order to pressure them into waiving the money they're owed, what a great way to thank them for their willingness to accommodate the club's financial difficulties. Simping so hard over Lewandowski that it could very well cost them the transfer as Bayern must surely be furious with Laporta's disgusting pandering.

Not so very long ago, that was the club that the whole world swooned over. Everyone was head-over-heels in love with Barcelona and praised them as the purest, most admirable club of all. That really changed fast. It's now a club for which only the actual fans have any kind of respect. Real Madrid must be loving it.

I'm pretty sure that was always a myth with no factual basis

Question - will all these wage deferrals and high debt (as well as losses), why do players still want to join them? Why would Lewandowski leave the safety of Bayern and join a club which may not be able to pay him.

If I was a Barca player whose wages got reduced or if they owe me lots of money, I'd be very skeptical as to why the club keeps on insisting signing high calibre new players with high wages. And these new players will probably get paid full wages because theyre the hot shit while me on the other hand had pledged my loyalty to Barca and got fecked in the arse instead.

For me it all sounds like the decision makers are incentivised to say the right-thing, right-now and won't be on the hook personally when it all goes pear-shaped.

In theory, any entity that messes up this badly should have to take its medicine. But Laporta at least seems to be creating an image that Barca can essentially walkaway from this car crash, through a combination of selling future revenue today and screwing players out of their original contracts.

One has to give Barca credit, I'm sure 99% of United players would have laughted the club out of the room if they asked to defer >50% of wages for a season or two.

Let me get this right. They owe their players almost 400m i deffered wages and have no money to pay them with, still they are going around bidding hundreds of millions for players from other clubs? :wenger:

You keep forgetting that they have levers.

What's more they're asking players like Frenkie to take a paycut a renounce to a part of his contract. Think he's gonna stay and make them to honor the contract they had agreed on.

Clubs would be a bit mad to sell to them on multi year payment terms just now.

They are not in the PL, so can easily get their house in order whilst making the CL every year, yet they're wanting to spend £100 m + on the Lewandowski and Raphina, whilst still owing a fortune in wages.

Don't care about Bayern, but if I was Leeds I'd see the irony in it all after what they went through after been so mismanaged, and tell them to beggar off.

struggling to pay guys...asking them to take wage cuts yet they bring in two guys on free which adds to their wage bill and still trying to bring in Raphinha with money they don't have

how the fuk do they get away with doing this?

The hymn reminds us of the open and integrating character of the club: "No matter where we curtail from, a contract or a pledge, ... A lever can bring us together."

"El Cant del Farça" (translation)

The whole stadium
loudly jeers
We’re the blue and claret comedians
It matters not where we curtail from
Whether it's a contract or a pledge
Now we all defer, all is deferred,
One lever unites us and others should
Blue and claret forgoing in the wind
Our wayward word
We’ve got a name that everyone knows:
Farça, Farça, Faaarça!

Patsies, Financers
More than a club
We’ve mounted debt over the years,
We’ve stuffed many holes
Another loan, we are alone,
Thought no wage could ever break us.
Blue and claret forgoing in the wind
Our wayward word
We had a name that everyone knew:
Farça, Farça, Faaarça!

I made a few pages ago a compilation of the economic accounts of Barcelona. And also an approximation of how the wage bill would go in anticipation of new economic results, which will come out in a few weeks.

This is the part that boggles the mind. Thats like when a company posts record profits and doesn't reward their employees and then tells them that they either have to take pay cuts or that people are getting sacked when profits aren't so good.

Its BS and any player that puts up with that is an idiot.

There's a huge difference though, when a billion dollar company looses a few unhappy employees, they're fine. If a couple of valuable Barcelona player decide to terminate their contrat for failure to comply with their agreement, the club could go bankrupt as the financial consequences would be catastrophic.

In one or two years it'll come crashing down imo. Reducing future income and Laporta only thinks for now...

How do you fix Barcelona? Not with levers...

You copy Bilbao, the old way Barcelona did. As many as possible first team from the youth ranks.

It's hard work...

Zero spending needed and you can sell them.

If and when things get worse, will be the only option left.

Are Barca fans the Liverpool fans of Spanish football? Endless bending over backwards to make it seem like they aren't having an absolute mare

Reading Barca's finances reminds me o

And they both also have that holier than thou thing going on as well.

Barca is the equivalent of a person living off credit and paycheck to paycheck.

Barca is the equivalent of a person living off credit and paycheck to paycheck.

With the addition that they already have loaned future paychecks to pay for immediate debt. Highly in debt but instead of saving taking credits to go on luxury holidays...
