In under a decade, Barcelona has gone from the club that the whole world adored to probably the most degenerate and unwholesome club in modern football. They've also gone from the best team in the history of the sport to a club teetering on the brink of total collapse. And it's all completely self-inflicted.
Bartomeu obviously takes most of the blame for their financial situation, but it's not as though they've turned it around since his departure and suddenly embarked on a road of brilliant financial acumen. Instead of building around young homegrown talent, they're trying to sign aging stars in the twilight of their careers, with no re-sale value whatsoever, all while unable to pay the players they already have. Laporta continues to make Barcelona less and less respectable by the day with shameless, slimy public statements. Vilifying their own players in order to pressure them into waiving the money they're owed, what a great way to thank them for their willingness to accommodate the club's financial difficulties. Simping so hard over Lewandowski that it could very well cost them the transfer as Bayern must surely be furious with Laporta's disgusting pandering.
Not so very long ago, that was the club that the whole world swooned over. Everyone was head-over-heels in love with Barcelona and praised them as the purest, most admirable club of all. That really changed fast. It's now a club for which only the actual fans have any kind of respect. Real Madrid must be loving it.
