Ballon d'Or 2021 | Lewandowski robbed again

It's hilarious that people are surprised by this, just read some of the posts in this thread from the cringe fanboys... That's the type of complete delusion that the likes of Lewandowski/Salah etc are going up against
Messi/Ronaldo cultists have monopolised these events and you won't get a fair outcome until they've retired

Up to Aug 2021:

33 goals and 13 assist for Messi at Barcelona and with Argentina in Copa America

29 goals and 3 assists for Lewa with Bayern and Poland at the Euros 2020

He contributed more than Lewa until Aug 2021 and was clear favourite. Everyone know that's the period where Ballon D'Or is decided.
People here simply don't want to listen. Ballon Dor is decided before the season starts. Has been that way since the 50s

Jorginho won the champions league and the Euro. If that doesn't give someone the ballon'd or, what is the standard anymore ?

The everyone know part is hilarious. If that's official rule then fine but otherwise people voting should vote based on the official guidelines

If at least Jorginho had won the Ballon d'Or instead of Lewandowski there might have been a few reasons to chose Jorginho over Lewa.

But Messi? What a fecking joke. That was just about the name Messi and nothing else.

With that the vote the Ballon d'Or has about as much integrity, meaning and value as the vote to award world cups by Fifa. They somehow voted for Russia and Quatar. The Ballon d'Or commitee voted for Messi, when he didn't even have the fifth best season of his carrer and just isn't as good as he used to be.
Meanwhile Lewandowski broke a record that no one thought could be broken, while missing several games. What a fecking joke.

This vote should serve as a reason why "wins a Ballon d'Or" clauses in contracts are pure bullshit. The award has become a popularity contest instead of an award for the best football player.

Wow, pretty bitter post. Maybe a goal record in bundesliga doesn't have the international outreach you thought it had?

Messi is an unlikeable little shit.

i feel so bad for lewandoski. the magazine are shameless thieves. they denied it him the award twice now.

Best player of both legs in the semi final of the CL and best player of the final I think for the 1st time in history. It's a bit more than a nice smile.
Wait so 3 games is meant to be enough to be get picked in the top 5? Where was he in the rest of the year? His PR juice is unrivalled let's admit it.

The standard is that he's not the best player for Chelsea nor is he for Italy. Varane didn't get it either in 2018 when he won both the CL and the world cup.

Was he the best player in either?

Maybe not the best, but one of the best. in 2014 Germany won the World Cup and it went to Ronaldo... sometimes I find stuff like that weird.

Just because no one wins these big tournaments without having one or two players who did well.

some pathetic posts re Messi here. Get a grip.

If Rashford had the kind of 2021 Messi has had, you'd probably have a completely different opinion.

Fair enough, he's not as good as 2012 or whatever, who cares. The man has put his expectations that high that you all think an average season for him is shit, his stats are world-class.

United won the treble but Rivaldo won the award, why? Because he genuinely was the best player in the world. Trophies help but sometimes you have to just acknowledge who the best player in the world is. It’s an individual award in a team sport.

He was instrumental in Chelsea's streak after Tuchel joined. Actually, they didn't loose a game when he set foot on the pitch after his injury in january. He didn't play at all during 4 games in PL and Chelsea lost 3 of them a drew the 4th. So i guess he was somewhere after all.

I don’t think it means he should be voted best player in the world. Does anyone actually think he’s the best in the world?
He had a really good season and is a consistent performer. Then again if lewa can't win it then don't think he had a chance at all

I’m surprised people reckon Lewandowski deserved it much more in 2020 than. He beat Müller’s record this year, which is just as impressive as winning CL was

Not that he would have won it last year either. Would have still comfortably gone to Messi.

And you think the Copa America has?

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. There's 600 million people living in central/south america, get your head out of your arse, of course it does.

When you put it like that... makes sense. Although it's not like Jorginho had just a good season. It was very good. He just isn't the kind of player who does all the playmaking and beautiful goals. Maybe that's his problem with the awards then.

That's actually a joke for Messi to win it this year. Should've been Lewandowski based on the past 2 years since nobody stood out this year.
Messi won it because of what you mentioned - nobody particularly standing out. Lewa broke scoring records but that alone is not a level playing field for judging both since they are both not out and out strikers.

If winning the Copa America is not good enough, let’s ask ourselves sincerely, is Bundesliga good enough?

Exactly.

ask Lewa.

I would, if we were talking about a prize that meant anything. But after today it's clear Lewa's true reason to go to Paris was for the trip. I think it's fair that everyone should treat this joke awared for what it is, a bought PR show for the highest bidder or somesuch nonsense. It's clearly not got anything to do with the actual competitions in football that happen.

The fact that players like Jorginho are brought up to this discussion shows you how clueless most people are about this award. He wasnt even close to being the MVP of his teams on any of the tournaments he won, yet he's supposed to be the MVP of the year? Make that make sense.

doesnt make him the best player in the world though. He wasn’t the best player at Chelsea or in the league.

Ballon d'or is a mix between individual and team performances, how many time do we need to repeat that. Meaning that his CL and euro victory gave him enough of a boost to end up 3rd but his individual performances were not enough to make him win (and rightfully so).

It's funny seeing goalposts move. The obvious answer was Messi before the season started. He has a few rubbish games just 10 games into the new season and now it's Lewandowski. Wouldn't be surprised if Messi starts playing really well again you'd see some revisionism about how he deserves the award

[Messi] to Lewandowski: "Everyone knows and we all agree that you were the winner last year. Hopefully France Football will give you the Ballon d'Or 2020. We all believe you deserved it and I hope you can have it at home.

That is the speech of a guilty conscience that knows he just robbed a man in public daylight and can't believe his luck that he got away with it.

So basically you agree with me, he didnt deserve to win. Thanks for the condescending tone though.

Andre Gray should have won after that goal he just scored

It's funny how suddenly the Copa America is one of the greatest competitions in the world and the winner should definitely be rewarded. This is the first time I can remember that the winner of the Copa America also won the Ballon D'Or. It's honestly only because Messi won it that is gained this grandiose allure

Brazil won in 2019 and Allison didn't even make the top 5 despite having winning the UCL and having a great domestic season. Sanchez won the best player in 2016 but didn't even get in the top 30 that year, despite also having a great start to the 2016-17 season as well.
