Australian Open

Awful final; imagining paying big money to see it. Serena played great but there was no opposition. Very disappointed in the effort from Sharapova. She's supposed to be #1 in the world. I can serve double faults like that, easy. I'm wondering if these young women are just intimidated by Serena and feel they have no hope? Hope the men put on a better display.

Crap final, BBC covered it on their website so was able to watch, but obviously not for very long. Slightly annoyed because 10 mins before Serena's first game started, they mentioned her odds as being 30-1 or summat, I thought I'd get a fiver on, but my internet account was out of credit and at the time had misplaced my card. Ah well

Incedently, having won one round of the prediction competition (round of 16 was it, the one with most games to predict) and coming joint top of another, I hereby declare me overall prediction champion!

Sharapova didnt show up. On the hand Williams is built like a wrestler.

Anyone else online?

9 mins from start of play.

7-6, 6-4, 6-3

for Roger Federer

well I guess he's learned you can't be cute when dealing with

THE FED

Federer has won the second set 6-4.

One set away from a perfect prediction.

Federer's won it.

10 grand slams and he's only 25.

He is phenomenal. Best ever and that´s a really big call. Best sportsman in recent years.

damn, zing, you shoulda put some money on it

Best ever? his competition kinda sucks, saddens me, I wish him and a youthful Sampras could face off. He will break the Grand Slam record for sure.

Federer would beat Sampras at his best comfortably. His is a more complete player than Sampras, has more variety in his serve, good at the net and brilliant from the baseline as well. He makes the competition look mediocre because there is no weakness in his game that can be exploited. A true genius of the sport. Like Tiger Woods, Schumacher or Armstrong, he is so damn good that others look average.

I could take him.

Federer would've beaten Sampras. He's the best ever.

I think the commentators suggested Fed would beat Sampras easily on clay, probably 7 out of 10 times at the U.S and Oz opens and maybe 6 out of 10 times at Wimbledon. Sounds about right to me.

wonder how many more than sampras he'll get. should cross 20.
What an achievement that would be. Frankly all he needs is a french open title to secure his status as the undisputed greatest of all time. I dont think i'l ever see another sportsman like him, i've been a fan ever since i saw him in his first grandslam final and been an honour watching him.

Sampras i saw a little after his peak but tbh i think he was lucky to have played in a different time to Federer. The amazing part is, he took a huge leap at the age of 23, its scary to think what would have happened if Federer's graph had been like the modern sportsman, like the Nadal's, Sharapova', Rooney's of this world. Then again maybe it working out this way was just right. For a player to do it with such ease, reach the last four of every grandslam year after year, and win almost each one, is just astonishing.

would love to see him win the french but frankly i'm hoping for an upset at wimbledon. just for entertainment. i'll be rooting for roddick then.

I hope Federer will win the real Grand Slam. I just want to be the witness of it. Not every generation has this chance.

Seeing last night final, I tend to agree. Technically complete, and ice cool nerves as well. His positional sense made him looked that he seemed just stroll around the court but made almost every shot he try.

I thought it was winning all 4 in the year. Or is it holding all four which he will if he wins the french?

As I know it´s winning all 4 in the year.

Unbelieveable player really. Best player i have ever seen. Better than Sampras, Borg, Becker, anyone.
Can't believe he won the whole tournament without dropping a single set....frightening.

In 30 years we'll be able to tell people that we were able to watch Roger Federer live.

Legend.

Will go down as one of the greatest sportsmen ever.

The competition around him is good aswell. Not many eras where there have been players like Nalbandian, Roddick, Nadal, Ljubicic, Safin etc in the same space of time....
He is just in a different class.

I doubt it. As great a player as Federer is, Nadal is invincible on clay. Two time defending champion at the French open and no one has defeated him in any clay court tournament for the last 2 years. His winning streak on clay is like 65+ matches.
