Australian Open 2014

Part of the reason Nadal is so injury prone is because of the way he plays. He puts so much pressure on himself physically that it's no surprise he breaks down. He may be enthralling, exhilirating and scintillating but he doesn't play as fluent a brand of tennis as Federer and means it's harder to keep doing it.

Do you think his physique will be ok enough for him to try to beat Federer's record in GS wins ?

Some people think that he actually was faking it? He was only in the second set against stan who he has never lost against. So his plan was to act like he is hurt and then drop second set and then start playing? He is still not playing fully, just is going for winners. Stan lost his concentration.

Nadal dominated Federer at Wimbledon? Don't remember this......especially as Federer was probably more comfortable in his 5 set win than Nadal was in his. The Hards of Flushing Meadows were also where Federer played his best in his peak years too, not Wimbledon. He dominated him at the French in 08 mind you, and the other day was fairly straight forward, but that was kind of expected, Federers 33 man, and trying to take the game back to the 90's. Expect him to have insane losing records against Djokovic and Murray too.

Djokovic-Nadal is the GOAT rivalry anyway. It's a shame Djokovic only bothers to bring his A game for Nadal, and half asses against whoever else.

I certainly hope so. He's only 27 so surely he could win another 2 or 3 French titles while he's playing so well generally that one would imagine he'll be competitive everywhere else when healthy. Wawrinka will surely finish this off this set though.

Wawrinkwa... He will win this but doesn't really deserves to. Been very hit and miss since the first set

Insane to say he doesn't deserve.....beat the 3 time defending champion FAIRLY. And was up a set and a break FAIRLY before Nadal tweaked it. He bottled it under server circumstances, whether he would have if those circumstances weren't there is another thing. Epic props for Nadal though, letting him have a legit win when he clearly wanted to be elsewhere, and fighting through Stanimals meltdown to then give somewhat of a match.

inb4 Stanimal wins the Franch Open too. Rafa's got zero chance there if his back ain't in whack.

Stan has beaten Djokovic, Berdych and Nadal. Fully deserves it. Though he's been lucky with injuries and walkovers throughout the tournament. He was schooling Nadal in the first set and it was going to continue anyway.

Well done Stanimal.

I totally envy Nadal's GOAT Richard Mille match.

Well done to Stan. Pity about Nada, can't see him beating Fed's record of 17:(

Rubbish. Half fit Nadal was giving him a game. Fully fit Ndal won't have lost this.

Half fit Nadal was giving a completely not there Wawrinka a game. His game completely changed too y'know. I thought Nadal would win in 3 beforehand, as did many. We were unfortunately robbed of a probably another 5-set cracker that could of gone either way imo.

Losing it mentally is not an excuse. If Nadal was not visibly injured, I would not have given him any excuses as well. Nadal in that state should have gotten spanked in 3 sets.

Anyhow I do agree that the swiss is capable of giving the big guys a game, hopefully he will kick on after this win.

Nadal won the 3rd set just by returning the tennis ball. He couldn't move. Nadal is a level above Stan. Beating Djoko was a great achievement for Stan but Djoko missed a one in a million sitter of a volley at match point. Been lucky throughout the tournament but has played well so good luck to him.

Federer is a vrry lucky boy. Nadal has missed Grand Slams and ia sometimes not fit whilst playing in them... if he wasn't so often injured, he would have been alot closer to Federer's Grand Slam record now.

What a let off, Federer partying even though Nadal has destroyed him at will pretty much every time.

Even Sampras said he had never seen anything like Nadal and found him to be i credible after watching him live for the first time last friday... he was already talking him up for 18 slams or so... how unlucky and lucky for the fake greatest player ever swiss boy.

 professor level poster with an 8 year old level post.

And  at nadal for losing to fecking wawrinka.

Yeah well you'll never in that situation to back up your claim tbh. No way Stans thinking "ill let him off the hook here", you'd have to be a robot not to be effected in someway by it. 3 sets, 4 sets, whats the difference? Wheres the trophy?

You are no better than him amol. He is a Nadal fanboi and you are Federer's. Laughing at someone losing due to injury.

Agreed, didn't he used to always have petty arguments with that other Nadal nuthugger.....what happened to that fella? Banned for endless spamming?

I don't care much but the quality of tennis from Wawrinka was very poor in the last two sets. It is not his fault that Nadal got injured midway so I don't fault him for that. Would be interesting to see how Nadal is for French now. I have a feeling Djokovic will win it this year. He was un;lucky to lose that semi last year.

Wr8Utd? He's still around isn't he?

Well done to Wawrinka, if you beat Djokovic alone you deserve it, let alone Djoko and Nadal.

Haven't seen the match and don't know the full extent of Rafa's injury, but well done to Stan. A simple awesome achievement that I would have never thought possible.

Though, as a Murray fan, watching him struggle through final after final, it's annoying watching this little fecker do it first time!

Are you saying that Djokovic has a better claim than Federer to GOAT? That's absurd.

The whole GOAT debate is a touch tedious but I don't see how a player can be considered the GOAT when they have a 23-10 losing record with their biggest rival. Anyway, my prediction of Nadal to smash Federer then get beat by Wawrinka came off, even if it was in slightly unfortunate circumstances. I think Djokovic will win the French.

Of course I'm better. I'm responding to silliness rather than creating it.

I'm generally quite respective of nadal as he's a fantastic champion. Kevin just says really word things in general. Not too different from the football discussions with calling himself a "professional level poster".

Overall it is nice to see someone other than the usual suspects win a GS. First time since Del Po in 2009. Stan has been in an around for a long time. Pleased he's made the step up.

Missed the game but Nadal only won 7 points on Wawrinka's first serve. WTF?

Out of how many first serves?

I saw the first two sets and I think for a set and half, he almost didn't get a single serve in.

Just saw the stats. Stan won 46/53 first serve points, serving at a 55% first serves.

At one point his first serve percentage was low but he was winning every point off it. After the second set, his first serve percentage improved but he got a lot more aces in due to Nadal not moving 100%.

At this rate Nadal is going to be in a bath chair by the time he is 35. He might want to adopt a less punishing, and admittedly less effective, playing style before it is too late.
