Australian Open 2011

How's Murray's form been of late? Surely, Nadal is the favorite?

Murry's done well till now but this is a Slam and he finds spectacular ways of choking usually.

I thought Fed was the fave pre tournament but he looked poor vs Simon and somehow I think he might struggle if he gets a big hitter. But Nadal and Fed both must be favorites right now. As much as I would love I think winning a 4th Slam in a row might be too much for Nadal too.

Absolutely embarrassing performance by Monfils vs Wawrinka

She lasted just 6 points. Pity. Would rather it happen to Serena who's arrogant and unbearable.

Neither of the Williams left now. Seems like after ages we'll have a non Williams winner at the USO

Sad to see quality players having to retire during matches

Anyone know when Nadal is due to play?

Number of hours from time of your post would help a lot.

Tsonga is out, lost against Dolgopolov in 5 sets.

But what the hell is that thing Dolgopolov????? :wenger:

One Aussie almost out (Stosur), hopefully Tomic will follow now. Come on Rafa!

wr8 utd, it seems some of the youngsters i mentioned in an earlier article have stepped it up and are now coming to the fore! Raonic, Tomic, Berankis, Nishikori, Dimitrov all had decent tournaments.

Obviously none of them will be a Nadal/Djokovic and win a slam aged 20, but they do have the quality to make it to the top 10.

So. Nadal took the first set vs Tomic 6-2 but was 4-0 down in the 2nd but has got one break back :nervous:

Have not had a good feeling bout this match since yesterday. Backed by a home crowd this is a dangerous player to play.

Lovely. Nice to see Nadal running around without a clue.

Tomic wins a game atlast. Tomic leads 5-4 but it's on serve. This is the biggest problem for Rafa, the big hitters. He does not do too well against them even though he's done well to put them away for the last half year or so but their always a danger for Rafa on these Hard courts.

Why are you so nervous?

He's not going to lose to this kid.

Well he should not lose but you've got a home kid here who's blasting winners all over the court and has nothing to lose. And the hopes of a Nation lie on his shoulders, it's not really a very easy game ;)

3 break points to serve for the set now for Nadal. Come on!!!!

One wasted...two wasted....three wasted  That's just typical Nadal. A 4th break point in the game now...and he takes it atlast. To serve for set :D

PS: Takes the set now :D

Cilic definitely has the game to beat Nadal. How's the former playing these days?

Rafa won the match but Tomic was fantastic. If he can keep his head in the right place he's going to be a top 10 player imo.

Cilic up next for Rafa and then if he wins that probably Ferrer in the quarters.

Not as good as he was playing two years back but he's improved this tournament and beat Isner in 5 tough sets today. He certainly has the game to beat Rafa on his day. It'll be a tough match.

And Federer as usual yet again will not play a seed in the 4th round

I swear if I am paid to just spend a day talking with Schiavone, I will refuse and oh and I curse the one who made the draw and put Kuznetsova and Schciavone in the same bracket for them to meet. How do you watch this? Sorry women but women tennis sucks without any eye candy

Fed has been pretty average this tournament. Typically not yet played a seeded player but he's already lost 3 sets. Even Nadal did not look great yesterday. Maybe, just maybe Djoko or Murray could finally win a slam this time

Anyway Fed will play the winner of Roddick vs Stan in the quarters and Djoko plays Berdych in the other quarter in this half.

I think Nadal will win this one as well. I just don't see the competition. Federer for me still looks a pale shadow of his former self. 5 sets in the second round? Madness. Noone else looks ready to step up. Djokovic has always had the talent but not the temperament.

I've always said the same about Djoko and he IS a big choker but he's been playing very well this time. Even in the heat and should he get past Berdych I can see him putting away Fed if Fed continues to be as inconsistent as he has been. It's surprising because Fed was the form player on the mens circuit before the tournament. Players like Simon and Robredo have no right taking sets off him and yet it's happening.

Anyway the Kuznetsova Schiavone match has been immense. Almost 2 hours this 3rd set. Schiavone to serve for the match for the second time in a row at 11-10.

Kuznetsova has had 6 match points and just converted 7 of 26 braek points. It's almost a Rafa-esque post US Open semis conversion rate

And Kuznetsova breaks back again!

11-11

And now holds for 12-11. Immense game that. The quality of tennis has been phenomenal. And it's been going on for more than 4 hours 15 mins. Almost unheard of for a women's match
