Australian Open 2011

Just can't see Murray beating Djokovic if he plays how he did today. He had some brilliant moments, but also a ton of errors, especially off his forehand.

Djokovic punished Federer yesterday for being sloppy, and if Murray doesn't pick his game up significantly in the final, he'll lose.

Should be a good match.

Good interview with Murray, he didn't even realize Ferrer was playing for setpoint in the second set haha!

When he needed to Murray was able to step his game up and Ferrer just couldn't find a way to battle past in the end. The 2nd set tie break was the turning point and the 3rd set push set the win up nicely. Ferrer again playing very well and well done to him, as if he keeps that going this year he will be pushing a lot of the tops players or beating them in the season.

Murray was very good in the last few games of the set

So the finals like a showdown of which player has it in him to step up and replace Federer eventually as part of the top two players in the world. I reckon it's Djokovic. At his best he has too much for Murray IMO.

The general consencous amongst the pro's is that Murray is the more talented of the two...

Does this mean Murray goes back to 4th in the world?

Not sure depends on whether Soderling made any gains over his performance in this tournament compared to last but if Murray wins then he will gain an immediate 800 points which maybe will put him back up to 4th. Then again the system is so complicated these days who knows.

Really? I've never seen the immense talent people talk about. Great mover around the courts can hit nice angles but Djokovic seems to have that and the really big groundstrokes.

Your judgment is being clouded by your dislike for Murray. Djokovic is more the power game. Murray is more the man for the skill. This isn't new. Novak & Andy have been very good friends since childhood, they are best mates on the circuit. The general consensus has always been ever since the junior days that Murray is the more talented.

Er, how did you come up with that out of the blue?

I don't dislike Murray. I'm indifferent towards him, as I am towards pretty much every other player barring Federer. Although I must say his and his mums antics at Wimbledon border on retarded.

Well played Murray finally, but he wont get so many opportunities against a better player

He so rarely has a day when he plays consistantly well the whole way through a match and that is always going to let the opponent through the door

Its a mental thing alright because this weakness manifests itself in the little micro games throughout a match. If he gets 40 -0 up he'll usually win it after letting it get back to 40 - 30 or a turn an easy game into a struggle. If he runs off three games you can almost guarantee he'll lose his serve and let the opponent in - if he's up in sets its rare that he absolutely finishes off somebody with an all out demolition like Nadal or Federer will.

If he can sort that aspect of his psyche out he has all the tools for a real hit at the majors but if he don't he'll probably never win one.

I just hope he can tomorrow, get his game up and keep it there nomatter what then he'll beat Djokavic, but I can never see him sustaining that for three hours +

He's got last years losing expereince to learn from so maybe he can rise up

Cmon the Andy

I was more worried about this match then I was for the upcoming Djokovic encounter, with Djoko.. their styles match up well for Murray Djoko big grounstrokes and Murray not having to generate his own speed, Novak is also a fellow choker on big points in certain periods and it will be a topsy turvy match. I think Murray can edge this but I wouldn't bet my house on it.

That is a valid point that both are renown for being inconsistent, not only Murray. Djokovic has to be favorite; he's been the best player in the tourney so far and has already one that vital first Slam.
However, these are two very good friends, training partners who know each others games inside out. In a way I imagine it will help both of them to relax when you see your buddy opposite the net.
I think the one who serves best will win. Once again both are renown to struggle with their first serve percentages, but yet again both seem to have worked very hard on their serves this off season and both seemed to have improved on their serves.

Only if he wins the final. If he loses he gets zero points.

Really? For me Djokovic is clearly the more talented player. Murray is a more like Nadal though, he'll just make you work for every single point.

If Murray plays like he did today it's going to be a easy win for Djoko imo. 63 unforced errors from Murray today
Anyway Come on Novak and Kim and Paes-Bhupathi!

It seems that all of the top 4 apart from Fed seem to have done this. Murray has served brilliantly this tournament. Infact it's his serves which saved him today. And Novak has been serving super consistently as well. Fed could get no where near that Novak serve yesterday.

Nadal also has improved his serve since last year. His average speed at the Aussie Open last year was 179 kmph and 191 this time

I'm sure Murray and Djoko have similar stats.

More talented is not necessary the better tennis player...
Murray is more the man for the skill full shots, touch and gile; Djokovic more the power man who can find the baseline time after after time. Djokovic is more the clay/hard court type, Murray more grass/hard court type.

I think if Djokovic plays and importantly serves like has has been this tournament, he will win this. If it goes more than 4 sets Murray will wear him down and win.

Well done Andy Murray!!! Now, Novak - beat him!

If Novak plays as he did against Roger, he should win.

This is a golden, golden opportunity for Murray though - with Fed and Nadal both out, he must take it (but come on Djokovic!)

Ofcourse more talent does not always make you a better tennis player. Gasquet had so much talent, he really was supposed to be the next big thing. But he sucks.

Murray tbh has never really impressed too much on grass and absolutely never on clay. He more than makes up on hard courts though where he's very good. Djokovic is also great on hards but he's also probably the only player who can get close to Nadal on clay. Anyway for me Djoko is slightly more talented but there's not much in it. Djokovic had his array of spectacular drop shots and skill as well but he's toned it down and he's playing less spectacular but far more efficient tennis. Anyway their both great players and will probably be the men to beat along with Del Po once Fedal are gone.

Magic Murray battles back to beat Ferrer to stand on brink of Grand Slam glory says the Daily Fail. Was he magic today? I think they put unnecessary pressure on him.

The UK media will just go nuts if he wins and probably slam him if he loses

TBF the media has a right to be a little delirious. It will be a major achievement. It hasn't happened in a long long time.....

....The most boring player and man since Pete Sampras to win a Grand Slam.

There I was trying to be diplomatic for my preferred victor on Sunday

This is going to be a cracking final. Both guys will shot, both have incredible defense, but I think Murray is too smart for Djoko.

Oh yes, she has a face only a son could love. Though to be honest, Djokovic's brother(s?) get on my nerve as well with their chest pumps.

Players boxes in general are fecking annoying, except for the people Marat had in his section at the US and AUS Open a few years ago....

And her son has a face only a mother who has a face only a son could love can love. :p

Yeah I know what your talking about. I don't if it's Djoko's brother or not but yeah they can get annoying. Sharapova's dad is another example.

Talking of Chest pumps, Monfils can't stop doing them

Nadal's box is okay. I think that is one of the reasons why I support Nadal where as every time I look at Mrs. Roger, I feel like decking her.

Pics or it din't happen.

I loved Novak's box yesterday though. Ivanovic

And Roddick's is usually worth looking out for and sometimes Fed's because he usually has a circus traveling with him and coming for his games, especially in New York.

As for Nadal.

And this is one of the reasons why I hope to God he never wins a Slam, it'd just be unbearable, and I don't even live there!

But I could see him winning though, Murray's probably one of the best tactical players on tour and can get into people's heads. Hopefully Djokovic brings his A-game. And if he wins, his parents better remember to STFU this time.

The English media are brutal for this kind of thing.

Anyway, I don't really care if he wins or not. The media will wreck my head, but from what I've heard he's a nice guy so for him personally it would be great.

The year of Andy Murray.

Come on son, bring it home.

Rule Britannia!
Britannia rule the waves.
Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.

so Djokovic Muuray then.

Should be good. Djokovic I think is more experienced and should feel less pressure. I think he'll beat him in 4.
