Auction Fantasy Draft

i don't think the organizers should be participating in this draft

Why? It will be open bidding. When an admin makes a bid it'll be exactly the same as when a manager does it.

The only difference would be admins ability to lower values on players they want themselves. Which is why we agreed that some neutral will value those players - of course also using the reference list.

Still if I'd want Vidic and I put him out for 5 mill, then someone else would just outbid me. That is how the market will work, the other manager may not even want Vidic - he just wants to push up the value.

it would be complicated enough without the organizers having a stake in the process. also enforcing the whole thing will be difficult with vested interests.

however, i guess you should firm up the process first and then have a vote among other managers to see if the organizers can participate

I put my name down for this like 3 times in the previous thread. An awesome couple of days just got better.
Feels like this draft is too much for me. Just stay around, a big chance you can take mine.

Has the player pool been decided for this yet? Too hungover to read all of the thread

No mate. Polaroid came online earlier but left again and I just got a PM. Will hopefully be starting when the other game is over but we will see with Polly.

Typed out the auction framework but it was all erased when the post failed to load. Will return tomorrow to re-do it.

Can you please start a new thread when the game starts? Am not following this thread so dont know what rules you guys decided to implement.

Sure thing.

I haven't heard from @Polaroid now since Monday, I am not sure where he is really.

Maybe we can go with Anto's sheep draft instead if Pol is busy?

No need to change draft, at worst I'll run it and he will jump in when he can. But so far I hope he comes back, he was writing a post earlier and then it deleted itself.

Well we've been about two days already without a running draft so fecking get it started already!
Just kidding

I've read @Polaroid PM's and as he isn't here I thought I'd try to get as many of his ideas in to the draft as possible. Hopefully he'll be happy then even if I am sure he will have had some slight variations at least in his mind.

"Limitation:
Only players born in 1970 or after.

Rounds:
1. Goalkeepers
2. Centre backs
3. Full-backs
4. Central midfielders
5. Wingers
6. Central attacking midfielders
7. Strikers

All teams are given a 300 million transfer budget to recruit players for.
After every win each team will be given a 50 million bonus for replacements.
All teams needs a minimum of 12(average of 25 mill per player) players in their team.(no maximum exists)
Remaining funds will be kept for the reinforcement rounds.

*If you outbid another manager, you can not take the bid back - but you are stuck with the player until someone else tops your bid.

*Minimum bid increase is 1 million. No maximum exists.

*When making a bid must quote the "bid-post" and tag the manager you outbid.

*The round is over when all managers approves of moving on."

I need to create the lists primarily for the bigger names to show in which position they will be available.

I also need to create a reference for each value so everybody has an okay understanding on how their own "random/unlisted" players will be valued.

The in depth list of start values will be created just before the rounds starts.

The minimum start value will be 10 millions on all players.

Any other rules that we think should be clarified ahead?

The bid-post will look as follows(example of round 1):

Round 1 - Strikers
1. Annah - Ronaldo 60 mill - Messi 57 mill
2. Polaroid - Saha 10 mill
3. AldoPaine18 - Batistuta 35 mill
4. rpitroda
5. Isotope
6. Edgar Allan Pillow
7. crappycraperson
8. NM
9. kps88
10. MJJ
11. Cutch
12. VivaJanuzaj
13. Pippa
14. NoPace
15. PaceMe
16. Fergus' son

After each round is finished, the OP of the thread will be updated to include everybody's players and how they drafted.

Again the 1970 deadline?

Put the GK round in between, no one will save money for a keeper otherwise.

Also who will decide who qualifies as a striker, winger, AM etc

A bit of a pain, innit?

It won't have any influence on the game itself so it is not the end of the world. But it will be decided per their peak position rather than their role.

So C.Ronaldo is going to be a winger, because that is his position on a team sheet even if some wants to call him a striker.

But he won't be cheaper or more expensive because of it, in fact he will cost exactly the same.

For non-listed players you desire you can simply ask the admins about them in a PM or openly ask it in the thread if you prefer that. At the end of the day the market will be the decider. You can play great mindgames by asking for a player, hoping someone outbids you then leave them with a player you never wanted a lot anyhow.

A high-profile position should be last, I think. Imagine having CFs as the last round, everyone would have to be much more careful with what they spend before that round.

Also, the people nominating the players in question should be able to distinguish what position they play.

I agree, but I agree mainly because it means we won't know who Aldo is building his team around until the last round when he picks that player up. So I will turn the rounds.

So all bids made are public then and in the draft order? In round 1 after Fergus bids does it go back in reverse for those that want to make additional bids? Then round 2 starts with Fergus, round 3 with Annah and so on?

There is no order, anybody can bid at any time by updating the Bidding post of the round and @tagging the manager you outbidded.

Of course if you make a first bid you simply include your own bid without tagging anybody.

It should be in an order like this, IMO:

1. Attacking midfielders
2. Right backs
3. Left wingers
4. Goalkeepers
5. Central defenders
6. Central midfielders
7. Left backs
8. Right wingers
9. Forwards

I've done some calculations and a start value of 10 millions on all players should be sufficient.

It makes it tricky to waste all money on one player, but it is certainly doable. If you get a player for 100 mill, you still have 16.5 mill each for all remaining 11 players.

Looking back at the last draft there will not be enough centre backs for everybody to make it worth picking the left-overs. There will certainly be bid wars to make sure you get Ferdinand ahead of someone like Puyol.

What do you guys think?

Does not make sense to separate the wingers or full backs

I think it is fine.. it is the first one so we will learn something new as we go along. Base price of 10m for all is ok for me

I see. How does the round end? Do we all send a PM to say we've finished bidding or is there a deadline?

It will end when everybody are satisfied. We will move on when everybody has claimed they are done.

People should clarify that by the time we close in on finishing a round. I.e not wait until the last single pick to say they are done drafting.

I guess so. We could cut it down even further...

1. Wingers (right, left)
2. Fullbacks (right, left)
3. Goalkeepers
4. Midfielders (attacking, central, defensive)
5. Defenders (central)
6. Forwards

Yeah thats what i was wondering. If someone was offline for 24hrs say and came back to say they hadn't finished bidding.

Regarding the order, keep keepers fixed in the middle, 3rd or 4th. For others let managers vote for who they want

Say to kick it off

Everyone lists who they want to bid for first -

crappy - forwards
Pippa- Wingers
Annah, Aldo- CmS

same for every round bar the keepr one

Yeah there has to be some kind of deadline before a bid is close. 12 hours is fine since we normally gave people only 8 to make their pick in a normal draft

Meaning if a bid for player doe not change in 12 hours.. he is considered bought
