Astronomy & Space Exploration

First video (albeit collated with a sequence of images) from the surface of a moving asteroid, ever!

Yep, seen it — really thought provoking, even though it doesn't seem to reconcile Quantum Mechanics and General Relativity! :)

I dont know if someone already posted it, but Dr Dan Hooper is investigating the possibility of dark matter annihilation in the galactic center being the source of gama ray busts observed. Its controversial, but if true it means that dark matter have at some weak interaction, not only through gravity.

Nice. Thanks for posting.

Can we hurry up and discover how to travel through space properly. I wanna go exploring.

Insight lander touch down expected in the next few hours.

Was gonna say the level of nerd celebrations was really disappointing on the BBC feed, that one was much better
You're 15 years too early for that :)

(based on no evidence)
The frequency that Musk changes the design is getting slightly worrying.

So there's no advanced civilizations in the observable universe because we haven't noticed any irregularities in the brightness of stars in the Milky Way yet? Sorry mate but that sounds extremely daft.

Firstly I have just become a full member so I am reading this thread now for the first time.

I have to agree with you; I don't follow that logic either.
Have we caused irregularities in the Sun brightness??
I have no idea of the answer but would be surprised if we had.

We must understand the timescales that humans have inhabited our planet ~ 200,000 years out of 4.5bn years. A miniscule fraction and then we need to consider how this relates to the age of the universe.

So. The chances of so called intelligent life having evolved to a similar level to us at the same time scale and having sent radio waves across the hundreds of thousands of light years at the same time we are able to detect them has to be remote at best.

I am not saying that intelligent life does not exist else where. I am confident there is.
It is just having all the possibilities aligned that I think unlikely.

First SpaceX booster landing not to work out for a while, pretty amazing videos though, and it didn't blow up.
