Aston Villa vs Manchester United

that's a hell of a lot more like it, really good display. Shame we couldn't have got a third too.

Just need to keep this going now.

Cracking display.

Good half. We look like a different side out there. Much improved performances all over the pitch from players like Welbeck, Cleverley, Valencia. It's been refreshing to see us playing this way again. I'd just like Rooney to get on the ball higher up the pitch where he can be a goal threat.

The second half has to be all about ruthlessness for us. Kill them off as quick as we can and leave nothing to chance.

Rooney's doing a good job in the middle with those cross-pitch balls. Scholes-esque.

Well that was fun. Strong start by Villa but by the end of the half we could have had 3 or 4.
62% possession? Not bad at all.

More impressive than the possession was the speed of moving the ball. Too often this season we've been labored in our passing.

Pfffff. Phil Jones?

I don't think he explained himself clearly; I obviously think players like Ronaldo had more potential, and Jones may have more potential. BUT, at such a young age, I can't remember any player at all at United being as mature as him in ability, decision making, and more.

Very good half. The amount of pressure Rafael and Valencia can create is something we have sorely missed.

This is what happens when Rooney drops deep. A man more in the middle can do so much difference. Welbeck has been great, as have Rafael and Adnan. Giggsy needs to step up a bit. Apart from that a very very good half

It's like a vintage Valencia display. Like he's woken up from the last 18months or so.

No surprise it's come with Rafael looking bang on it.

Bring on Fletch in the 2nd half and we'll shit all over then.

That's more like it! Good first half with everyone chipping in. Valencia looking good and, rightfully, getting a lot of praise, but Rafael's contribution on that side shouldn't be ignored. Setting up Valencia so well on many occasions.
Welbeck clinical, Rooney looking good in the deeper position and Januzaj is Januzaj. I like this so far.

I'd like to see Wilf Zaha getting 25-30 minutes if we score another goal.

If we go on to win this playing in a similar fashion second half and Fletch and Zaha get some time on the field, it will be the perfect day

We have to make sure not to be complacent though, if Villa grab a flukey goal the atmosphere will change.

If I see Lionel Messi trying to kick a can of Pepsi up his nose once more...

I don't think I explained myself clearly. I wasn't being 100% serious. Unlike Phil Jones.

Looking at the highlights again; what on earth are Villa playing at? Absolutely shitty performance all across the board. How is El Ahmadi a Premier League player?

Possibly best half in the league this season? Close to it at the very least. You've got Valencia sending one good cross with his left foot and another excellent through ball, again with his left, and you know it's a good day.

Not saying it doesn't happen, just saying I don't agree that in this case, that is the reason. Welbeck has a diverse skill set. Given the current state of our wingers, I feel he does a sufficient job on occasions (relative to who we currently have there, not relative to what we should have there). This means he plays there sometimes. The reason he doesn't play more as a striker is because, as you said, we have an array of players already at striker.

As I said, different ways of looking at the same story. You're saying he's been moved because of his skillset (which I disagree with). I'm saying he has been moved there as a) we have better striking options right now, and b) he has adequate ability to play out wide.

I disagree with you because I believe his best position is still striker. He has proved he can play there when he has been given the chance to.

If you consider Welbeck as a striker, then we have 4 strikers in the team (Rooney, RVP, Welbeck and Hernandez) which is in line to what we had in the treble. Ok we're flirting more with a 1 men striker formations these days, however its also true that Rooney-RVP tend to have a higher injury rate then Cole-Yorke. If we compare our forward situation with our winger's situation then you'll notice that We've got more players capable to play on the flanks (Nani, Januzaj, Valencia, Giggs, Kagawa, Young, Zaha, Welbeck + Jesse) then upfront.

We're playing Welbeck on the flank because he's too shit as a finisher and too talented to let him go.

We're cruising past their left side at will, we need to make the most of that in the second half as well.
