The text box in which you write your post is called an editor. At the right side of the formatting bar there's this button called 'toggle bb code'.
It's the little cog icon.
Nothing happens when I press it, the same for all the other buttons on the editor

You can just search for things like ".gif" ".jpg" "[media]" etc and it'll show only posts with those in them.

Yeah. Difficulty with image hosts is most of them go down eventually. Photobucket used to be the go to but they changed to a subscription and having intrusive watermarks on the free tier. Imgur doesn't have that at the moment and has been around for 11 years.
