Asier Illarramendi

Seems bizarre that an, admittedly talented, water carrier for the team is costing them 30m. Looks like Madrid are paying home-grown tax as all of the English clubs seem to do.

It's essentially the same price they paid for Alonso which sounds about right. Don't think you can call either of them water carriers to be honest. Khedira's the water-carrier, Illarramendi will play an important role in shaping their team's style of play for the next decade.

How has his valuation gone from €10m a couple weeks ago to €30m now?

Madrid tend to pay way over the odds in some cases. Coentrao cost them €30m, I still struggle to understand why anyone would pay that kind of money for him. It's about the same Barca paid for a full back too when they got Alves but there's a big difference in what they contribute.

His team don't want to get rid of him, their captain said Mdrid will need to pay his release clause to get him and that looks like what they have done. How good is he? What type of player? I have never watched him.

He is good, but not 30M good.

Unless he improves A LOT he is going to seriously struggle to break into RM midfield.

Is Xabi Alonso a water carrier?

Alonso's game is mainly about dictating and controlling the game from deep with a good passing range, this is pretty much the identical role played by Illarramendi at the U21's.

Him and Isco for about 50m quid? Even if they are one of the richest clubs in the world and are funded by banks, surely they will have to sell someone to balance off their books? And i imagine they will buy a couple more

RonaldON?

I forgot about Higuain

We could spend close to the same on Thiago and Baines without selling.

They'd only have to sell if they spunked big money on a Cavani/Bale. Most big clubs can probably get away with a £50m outlay.

What happens when Madrid prefer to play with their new toys and he ends up on the bench? Could be another Sneijder like bargain this summer or the next one

I think Ozil is still a big part of their future Di Maria should be worried.

I for once think they are doing some sensible business instead spunking 60m + on the next galactico they buy some of the most talented you Spanish players to build a solid core for the future. 30m seems over the top but that is what the biggest talents will cost you in today's market which is also why I said that 18m for Thiago should be considered as the biggest heist of the year.

30 million is crazy but I agree with that Nologo Wilshere would go for the same, Veratti maybe slightly less but in general that talent is 20-25 milion plus. I assume he can be eased in learning from Alonso the job will be his full time in a couple of seasons. How about the Brazilian they signed for about 5 milllion his name escapes me plays dm also begins with a c camiero or something.

p.s What makes everyone confident Isco can play from the right?

Wouldn't Ozil be more likely to play from the right? Casemiro is who you're thinking of.

It all depends on how Ancelotti wants to play, if he wants to players to play on the oppsoite site of their strong foot then Özil will probably end up on the right if he however is content with one of those players I don't see a reason why Isco shouldn't be playing on the right.

That's his name. From popular opinion and from what I have seen from Ozil on the right I think he would stay in the middle leaving Isco out wide, I may be wrong though but the few times I have seen him out there he has struggled to get involved.

No, but from what I've seen, Illaramendi isn't as creative or as good a passer as Alonso. Alonso also went for about the same price at his peak.

Obviously he isnt as good, but hes the very same type of player.

Just read that Madrid are not negotiating with Sociedad, which means that they are going to pay his release clause (30M) + VAT (around 9m). Around 40m for a 23 years old midfielder?

The 30m Euros is about £25m. They are negotiating according to the Madrid press, they're just offering the clause valuation straight off, because they want it done fast - and now they're negotiating over payment terms and addons etc

In the unlikely event that it actually becomes a real release clause deal, they'll still haggle over the VAT, but the maximum they'd pay, even if for some reason it couldn't be structured as a deal on which VAT can be reclaimed is 6.3m Euros. However there's next to no chance of Real Sociedad refusing to deal, you never know when being friends with Madrid will come in handy.

It might be surprising but Del Bosque was only recently talking about him saying he could play in any team. The national manager is clearly a fan and looking to afford him a space in a very competitive squad so Madrid cant be too far wrong about him. Maybe Madrid have been given cause to believe that Sociedad wont talk it out with them for whatever reason and Madrid want to make sure that he and Isco are the core of the team for the years to come.

If he can control the world, this football thing is going to be really easy.

Real Madrid have apparently just delivered 30m to the LFP having given up on a quick direct transfer being negotiated. Reasoning being that Real Sociedad are back in training which makes it awkward for the player and Madrid want him with them on the 15th when they start their pre-season.

Much as I dislike Madrid and their usual transfer policies, I can't see anything wrong with them buying the best young Spanish talent. It's a shrewd move, much like Bayern and Dortmund try to stockpile the best young German talent, and ourselves and the other big clubs in England try to stockpile the best young English talent.

That would be fine, except that our idea of stockpiling the best young English talent is signing Ashley Young.

feck, I must have imagined the part where we had Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Nick Powell, Tom Cleverley and Wilfried Zaha then. Goddamn LSD.

Tongue in cheek - but signing Asier Illaramendi is more like signing Jack Wilshere than Nick Powell tbh.

Would argue it's closer to like when we signed Rooney - a big fee for a player who has just come off a fantastic international tournament signing from a much smaller club.
