Some call him Smashley Young, others call him Amazingly Young.

I tried.

Someone give him a new contract already, even if it's two years. I don't think that's unreasonable, there's no risk there.

He can play both fullback spots and even if he declines defensively in year 2, in which he'd be 34, he'll probably still be a good enough crosser to be an alright backup.

My guess is this will be next year's depth chart, with Shaw sold and an LB brought in. Maybe one of Darmian or Blind gets sold too and Fosu-Mensah brought back, but I think Mourinho likes a big squad with lots of depth and 5 fullbacks for 2 spots seems dead on.

Fancy new LB - Young - Blind
Valencia - Young - Darmian

Surely that has to be one of the best free kicks in several years for United? It's like he channeled the spirit of Beckham, the ball went from one side of the net to the other.

remember, this is the guy who keep benching anyone on his position , zaha , di maria, shaw , darmian and blind , no matter who we bought , he keeps on benching them.. i won't bet against him benching up any left fullback we buy next season

totally agreed. Truly vital squad member because of his talent, experience and leadership assets.

Amazing how Fergie could spot certain players with mental attributes to just perform consistently and adapt to whatever circumstance. Even after all these years, after all the manager changes, we still pretty much use Valencia, Smalling, Jones, Young, De Gea whenever they are fit, and Carrick before his age really started having an impact on him was in the same boat. Despite all the position changes and big players coming in, they'd still force their way in somehow. Darmian/Blind/Shaw/ whoever else, our best performing fullbacks are still the wingers Fergie bought years ago.

I can't remember a better one for several years.

Extend his contract. Great squad member.

He's playing greatly at the moment. Has now added goals to his performances and what goals they were. Usually plays the best as a wing back at the cost of our CBs who can't play well in that system.

I like his dribbling. So tricky for a left back. It's kind of like he is trying to copy Marcelo in the finals examination.

Can we please abandon the thought of signing Danny Rose and instead rotate him with Daley Blind or even Luke Shaw? Ashley still has lots of mileage in his tank left

Di Maria eat your heart out!

It's insane that this dude is currently our best LB.

Hate to burst any bubbles but wasn't he at fault for Watford's second goal last night? And how many dangerous crosses came off his wing against Brighton on Saturday? Top class player, great recent form going forward but not a great defender.

Fair play to him he's a consummate pro and he's been good this season. Can't really believe he's still here but fair play to him for never giving up and his place in the team is well deserved at the moment.

Nah, sorry.

Young is playing very well and i'm pleased as punch for him, but he's 32 we need to start looking for an actual LB/LWB, whether that's Rose or who else.

The curve on that freekick. Wow.

Young or Valencia.

If we could only keep one next season, who would you keep?

This season has been very underwhelming for Valencia so far. In a 3-4-3/3-5-2 formation he offers very little wing play down that right hand side. He ends up slowing down the pace, if anything, and hitting a low cross against a defender's shins 9/10 times. Ashley Young still has the ability and adventure to take on a player and put a decent cross in (with both feet, might I add) while Valencia just stands over the ball hopping around and just expecting the defender to fall over or something.

Realistically we need to sign players in both positions and keep both Valencia and Young for at least another year or two, but RB is becoming more of a priority than LB for me. At least we have a few more options at LB in case of injuries. When we lose Valencia it's either Darmian or one of Bailly/Jones playing there which means the 3-4-3/3-5-2 becomes basically impossible to play football with.
