Ashes II - 2013/14 - In Australia

That looks out to me.

Edit: not out. Very difficult to tell if it carried. Fair decision.

I'll put this despite the fact he'll almost certainly get bowled as I post this, but at least Stokes has something about him and doesn't just wait their woefully defending and getting out easily. Pretty shameful that at 22 he's just about the only one who has any clue out there. You're in a hopeless situation, it doesn't matter if you last 3 balls or 30 if you're going to make no attempt to score as with Bell.

Congratulations to Ballance and Stokes too, who are England's first 10 run partnership of the game.... Maybe they can get us to the heady heights of 50.

I can't see how Cook can continue as captain. He's literally gotten everything wrong in this series.

I live walking distance from the ground. Was thinking of going along on day 5 just for a few beers in the sun. Don't think that's an option now, this will be over in no time.

It won't last that long.

Where do you live? It can't be far from my work in Randwick.

Stokes has been about the only highlight for England this tour. Looks a very talented player. Hopefully they don't feck him about as they've done with Root.

Ooh. Beautifully bowled, thank God for the helmet. Hope he's okay.

Must say I've been completely wrong about Stokes. He's been the only shining light for England. Doesn't look phased by anything and seems to enjoy the challenge.

If England get a wicketkeeper who can bat well as high as 6, Stokes at 7 would be priceless.

Do not think Stokes is yet good enough for 6 or if he can be given that work load ever, because his bowling is fabulous.

PM

We had our Christmas lunch at Pinocchio's Restaurant which was ordinary and we used to get pizza at Arthur's which is decent if unspectacular. Nice part of the world. Wish I could afford the real estate so I didn't have a 2 hour commute.

I've just got in from work and am watching the highlights of Englands sorry innings and am a bit stumped. Can anyone tell me why Jimmy Anderson batted so high in the order ?

England already believe they have lost. Sad to see a team brought so low.

This team reminds me of our team when we were drubbed 8-0 in consecutive away series.

The seniors looks hopeless and without fight and the younger players playing well(Kohli and Yadav in our case).

The 4-0 in Australia reminds me a lot of this.

Australia bowled extremely well. Good length outside off, but that time they had 3 bowlers doing that instead of Mitchell Johnson doing what he is.

I don't know what were the odds of Australia winning 5-0? Must have earned some overly optimistic ones/risk taking ones big bucks if they bet on it!!

Honestly think Australia should play Mitch Johnson. He's inconsistent but bowl him in short spells of 3-4 overs and he can deliver you a wicket. He bowls 150k regularly and I can see him troubling some batsmen with his short bowling in the Australian pitches.

Please.. Don't. Someone might hear you, take you seriously and actually include him.

Customary laugh at that Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime Ghaliboy.

I can't see how Cook can continue as captain. He's literally gotten everything wrong in this series.

Mistakes are made, at home he got a lot right and Australia were only in it due to poor batting really. A shake up of the order is needed more than anything, hopefully with Trott in it once again.

Australia could have played their under 12s and beaten England. Even Australians must be shocked at our complete patheticness. At least they showed some fight when they lost 3-0.

This 5-0 drubbing will be much worse than the one England suffered in 2006/07.

Will be interesting to see the next series for both sides. SA should beat Australia but I think that will be a closer series than some people expect, especially if Johnson continues in this form. However, Steyn & Philander will be more ruthless with the Aussie batting line-up than the English bowlers have been.

Not sure who England have next, but they have quite a few decisions to make. I doubt Flower will stay, Cook should go too as captain but there's no real alternative unless they want to go back to KP. England need to settle on an opener and get Root back into the middle-order and keep him there. Also, they need to decide who their spinner and WK are going to be and whether any of the tall bowlers are good enough for Test cricket.

Sri Lanka then India at home.

I think India will beat us, but I don't rate either bowling attack so hopefully we'll see runs for once.

India's players shit themselves if the bowl swings. Depends what kind of pitches England put out. Our young crop is good but SA pitches too weren't the usual ones. 6 month is long time. England might get rejuvenated by then by spanking a useless SL team.

How much have you seen our top 6 bat in swinging conditions?

Like this positive batting from England. Ballance looks compact except for turning into Suresh Raina at the sight of a short ball.

Carberry looks a different player.

Whenever I've seen Johnson this series, he is bowling at 145 barring 2 spells or so. I know that's quick but that's not as quick as he's being made out to be. He was bowling 150+ in the ODIs and in the IPL, but not here, for obvious reasons.

He's just been fantastically accurate with the short balls.

Just looked up Johnson's average on Cricinfo, 144 in the first innings and 143 in the 2nd innings.
