Ashes II - 2013/14 - In Australia

I think it'd be a huge mistake to get rid of Pietersen now, no ready made replacement.

Where will the goals come from? But seriously, there's got to be rebuilding now and a new team ethos created, if Pietersen is detrimental to that it would seem like a natural end.

England needs more Pietersen's, I feel he still has something to give.

If he's detrimental to the team behind the scenes he shouldn't be kept around, regardless of how good he is (and he had a poor 2013), he showed in the whole Strauss incident that he's clearly a player who can damage a team so its for those on the inside to decide. Of course he might not get on with Flowers for perfectly legitimate reasons, but there's no way for us to know that. Pieterson's behaviour in the Strauss fiasco was a disgrace, that much we know, and frankly regardless of the PR put out by the England team, there's no way he'll have or ever will recover from it in the teams eyes - it'll always be bubbling under the surface and I doubt the rest of the players trust him (which also makes any chance of him ever being vice-captain completely out the question).

We can only speculate but I think Flower's time is done more than anything, England need a change of mentality from the top.

KP was still England's leading run scorer, so at least he didn't fair any worse then some of the other senior batsman.

Came in to say this. He's still England's best batsman. I hope he doesn't retire tbh. I love watching him play in full flow.

erm....:lol::lol::lol:

Fantastic from Faulkner, brilliant.

England should just pack up and go home.

It was but the bowling yet again at the death was poor.

I think it's indicative of England's ODI problem really.

Too many bits and pieces T20 style all rounders.

Look at todays card, Root at number 3 is being picked because he bowls. Bopara at 6 is picked because he bowls, Stokes at 8 is picked because he bats and Bresnan at 9 is picked because he bats.

If I was them I would reshuffle, I don't think Root's in any sort of nick so I'd bring in Carberry to open (I think they want to give Pietersen a rest, but if not he'd come in). I'd leave Ballance at 3 if they want to give him the chance but then promote Morgan to 4. Bell to come in at 5 (who I think is a quality ODI player, but scores too slowly to be partnered with Cook), then Buttler at 6 (he's good enough to knock it around at around about a run a ball if he has to come in early) and Bopara as a bowling all rounder at 7 (competing with Stokes, Wright, Woakes and that ilk of player for the slot), that leaves you 4 slots for specialist bowlers. One of whom will be your spinner.

It's perhaps a change bowler light, but I'd rather see that than see them field a ton of bits and piece players to make up the overs. Plus I feel like that has a nice balance of aggression and accumulation throughout the order.

Faulkner has an habit of doing something like this. Single handedly won a match against India in the ODI Series as well.

Well done Bopara.

Fantastic knock as a finisher scoring at fecking 50s.

Can't believed they're picking a number 6 who can't bat.

Give Luke Wright a game for the next ODI, you can't pick a number 6 batsman on the basis that he'll bowl a few economical overs when he can't actually score any runs.

You're being a bit harsh there I feel. He played the situation quite well I thought and if not for the unlucky dismissal (and wrong?) he might have finished the game off. He has been poor though for most of the series.

Root's shot was appalling though.

Strongly disagree, his dismissal was village. Yes he was unlucky that Wade can't keep, but lifting your foot like that is inexcusable and asking for trouble.

In terms of his knock I thought it was appalling, yes the pitch wasn't the easiest to score on, but he shirked responsibility and was keen to sit up the other end whilst Bresnan, Broad, and Jordan did his job for him. He allowed pressure to build through his inability to score.

Just wasn't good enogh.

Not sure why England don't play Luke Wright. He's good enough for this team and can easily do a job like jadeja does for us.

The nightmare tour continues, another big defeat.

Seems Flower is gone. He did a very good job with that team, but it was unlikely he would stay after the whitewash. Think Cook should be removed as captain too, but not many alternatives available.

Am I the only one who feels like T20 has become really boring?

I used to like watching the international matches in this format, but I can't be bothered to even watch an over. Will watch the WC, though.

Brad Hodge's in. Good for him. I hope he goes to the WC.

I really can't see the point of picking Dernbach as a bowler at this level.
